The Essence of Yoga takes you where you are, and can lead you forward from that point. It is to take you to the realization that you are infinite.
One of the main points in this talk, is to help us understand where we are now spiritually and where we are headed – union with God.
Kriyananda discusses how all yoga paths lead to the same goal.
Indian scriptures describe the difference between different functions of consciousness: mon, buddhi, ahankara, and chitta. Mon means mind, buddhi means intellect, ahankara means ego, chitta means feeling.
Kriyananda gave several talks called The Essence of Yoga and the subject matter is quite different each time. You can tell by the date after a title of a talk if it is a different talk.

Infusing Daily Life with God’s Presence is possible when you call to God strongly. ‘Give me your love, please give me more love. You are the source of love.’
Kriyananda begins this talk with a beautiful description to how Yogananda came to America. He taught people everywhere how to infuse daily life with God’s presence.
It takes a lot of energy to call on God enough to elicit His response. When you call with fervor, then constant communion with His presence becomes a natural flow, like it was with Yogananda.
Kriyananda reminds us that progress in our spiritual life is not developed in the grand, dramatic moments but through the little moments of our daily life. By practicing God’s presence in the little things, we build spiritual habits that will help us transcend our most difficult tests.

Gratitude: is a helpful quality for our spiritual growth if expressed with sincerity.
Kriyananda discusses two qualities relating to gratitude: the tendency to take for granted
and the tendency to appreciate.
Knowing that we have to get out of the ego, people tend to repress or hold back on natural good-will gestures. They feel that natural expressions of approval or support could feed the ego instead of the soul, and be harmful to people and as a result. People who do this tend to become a little cold or aloof.
Express gratitude to God for His many gifts, and most of all for His love.

Finding the Joy in Suffering – nothing in this world is real, it’s all made of energy, and when we realize this, suffering becomes a transitory experience.
You can ask, if God is a loving God, why do I suffer?
Suffering is part of the law of karma, cause and effect. We cannot escape this law, but you can accept things with the right attitudes.
The world is a vibration of energy. That energy is made up of conscious thoughts of the Infinite consciousness.
Think of life as being all of God. Life is a dream.
This talk is one in a series of 365 programs recorded for Aasta TV in India – A Way of Awakening. The 20 minute talks are based on readings from Kriyananda’s book Conversations with Yogananda.
