After spending 5 years as a pastor, Kingston wanted a career path that offered more financial upside in order to provide for his 5 children
Here is the step-by-step strategy he used to land his SDR job:
1. Research the tech sales industry: As a result of researching companies & roles, he stumbled across a leader of SDRs LinkedIn post saying they were hiring
2. Network: Rather than applying through the company website or LinkedIn & leaving it to chance, he researched the leaders Twitter to uncover his passion for collecting sports cards
3. Creatively apply for entry-level sales roles: He bought a $2 LaDainian Tomlinson card (in-part bc it's a unique name and he wanted the subject line to JUMP off the page), he sent the card in mail, messaged the leader on LinkedIn & email comparing himself to LT's football career, "I won't win all the awards but I will show up everyday"
4. Prepare for interviews: After he was invited for an interview, he did his homework on the company and the products they offer. He was prepared to talk about why his skills would translate, & share his plan to selling their product.
5. Accept a position and continue learning: "My plan over the next 3 months is to do whatever it takes to hit quota"
