NannyJen, Breandan, Michael Morgan from Stay Home NC and Bobby McRaven discuss the state of ReOpen (or StayHome), then the protests and violence that arrived locally following the apparent (for legal purposes) murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.

At the one hour and seventeen minute mark, we play and discuss the entire 10 minute video of George Floyd dying under the knee of former officer Derek Chauvin (now charged with 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter). We give you plenty of audible warning before playing the video.

This week we welcome Stella Spacebeaver (aka Karin Abell), one of the organizers of the Beaver Queen Pageant, a wacky fundraising event for the Ellerbe Creek Watershed Association. Ellerby Creek is a little waterway that winds through the north side of Durham, emptying into Falls Lake. It’s home to several public parks and recreation areas. The Pageant is a contest of sorts, with a half-dozen or so contestants who create beaver-related costumes and performances. Everyone else ‘votes’ and/or bribes the judges to select the contestant of their choice to be anointed this year’s Beaver Queen (contestants can be male or female).

Normally the pageant is held outdoors alongside the creek. This being the year of our Covid 2020, the pageant is going online, and for the rest of May and June, the sponsors will be releasing videos of the contestants and other activities on their web site, YouTube Channel and Facebook Community.
