Tricks of the Trade

Manu is running for County Council, District 7 on the Big Island.  I sat down with her to hear her story, why the big island community is sp important to her, and the WHY behind her first foray into politics. This was a really fun one with a new friend. Let's go.

Justin will never say this but he is on the short list of the best spear fishermen and hunters in the world.  Full stop.  Through those pursuits he's been able to share epic stories, inspire countless others, and he's finally heeded the behest of his fans and started his very own (highly anticipated) Youtube channel. This one also carried a little extra gravity as Justin shared some of the tough times he and his family have had to navigate over the last year or so and how he had to embrace different roles as a husband and dad.  Much love to Sonnaly and the Lee ohana for this one...

Oh HAAAAAAY. Miko is a hilarious stand up comedian from the Phillipines who is making his way through the Hawaii comedy scene. He's opened for some of Hawaii's biggest names and has a hilariously bright future. I was lucky to get him on his first podcast ever and hopefully he remembers me when he makes it big.  COMEDY!

If you've been to a comedy show on the Big Island in the last 2 years, odds are you've seen one or both of these dudes perform.  They are undoubtedly Kona's Comedy Odd Couple and it was a blast getting the two of them in the hot seat together.  Buckle up. 

I'm not saying Danny is the BOARMAN, but they've never been seen in the same room together.  In all seriousness, this is always a special treat when I can chop it up with one of Hawaii's apex hunters. Danny's been all over the world hunting, fishing, teaching, coaching, and it was a great time catching up.  The stalk is on, welcome to the show.

Michael is the unofficially official COO of Body Glove Hawaii; an adventure, snorkel, whale watching vessel that has operated in Kona since the late 80s.  We dive in to the operation behind the scenes, his journey through the company, and where they're at today. This was a fun one with a fellow steward for family business... Thar she blows!

Jesse is an 8th grade science teacher but moonlights as a standup comedian.  As the man behind Hawaii Top Comics, he curates a weekly comedy showcase every Tuesday at the Kona Elk's Lodge.  He shares his comedic journey, tips and tricks of the trade, as well as promoting some awesome shows coming to town. 

Ben is a fun guy super interested in fungi. (EY!) Back in the hot seat for the third time we catch up on whats evolved for him in the last five years, some cool happenings in the mycology realm, and a little bit of a lot else. Let's get weird. 

Heston is a window tint specialist by trade. But the reason he and I became friends was through our daring pursuit of stand up comedy.  Heston started Good Times Comedy Club in Hilo and has performed on stage alongside some of your favorite local comedians.  We talk about his journey and the art form of stand up, creating opportunities for local people in comedy, and plans for the future.  "He really is a funny guy!" -Henry Hill
