Let’s talk about tithing! Do you tithe? Why? Why not? Will God really keep His promises? It’s such an awkward concept to talk about in Church, but it’s one that God talks about often. So, this week, we don’t shy away from it. And, if Trinity Fremont is your local congregation, we have a challenge for you that we hope will take the roadblocks out of your way to test God in this.

• Do you have hair?

"Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need." - Malachi 3:10

Test me in this, says the Lord of hosts. This is the one time in the entire Bible that God tells us to test Him. Here we are called to text to see if He will truly keep His promises. Spoiler alert: He will. 

Your faith, my faith, our faith has an effect on those around you. So does our faithlessness. How does what you do affect your family and your community? How does your family and your community have an effect on you? 

You can find the story of Achan in Joshua 7 and the list of people who had a huge effect on those around them in Hebrews 11.

• What are your music preferences?

This week we see how the God speaks to His people through the prophet Malachi about their faithlessness. How does your faith affect those around you? Is your faith just a you and Jesus thing or does it have an effect on your family and your community?

Malachi 2:10-16

KaVoD (Not COVID). It means to be weighty, to take up space. In other words, deserving of honor and respect. In Malachi 2, God asks “Where is my honor?” He asks us the same question today. Do we give God the honor that He deserves as the author and creator of all that ever was and is and is to come? Or do we give Him whatever is leftover?

• What do you think about leftovers?

What do you do with the abundance of grace and blessing that God has lavished upon you? Do you hold it to yourself and give God the leftovers? Or do you start with the move that positions God in a place of honor in your life?

Do you ever see Jesus as an accessory that is to be put on when it fits the occasion, but taken off when it doesn’t? Do you often keep Jesus in the margins of your life rather than letting Jesus be your everything? What does it mean to live clothed in the robes of Christ’s righteousness? 

This week we start a new series on the book of Malachi, entitled: “The Fight Against Spiritual Boredom” as we look at how God calls us to live out our identity as a special, chosen, child of God.
