In 2003, two mates from Melbourne, Australia (Travis Garone and Luke Slattery) were having a quiet beer at the Gypsy Bar in Fitzroy when their conversation turned to recurring fashion trends. The moustache, a fixture in past decades, was nowhere to be seen in recent trends. They joked about bringing it back. Movember was born!

The following are facts and statistics related to men’s mental health:

· Nearly 1 in 10 men experience anxiety or depression daily, but less than half of those men will ever seek treatment.

· 60% of men will experience a traumatic event in their lives.

· About 16.3% of males 18 and older in the US were diagnosed with a mental illness or about 16.5 million men.

· Only about 36% of males with a mental illness in the US receive treatment.

· Globally speaking, 75% of those who die by suicide.

· In the United States, white males accounted for almost 70% of deaths by suicide in 2019.

· The Trevor Project estimates that at least one LGBTQ youth between the ages of 13–24 attempts suicide every 45 seconds in the. Do the math 700,000 per year attempt suicide.
