Adoption has many myths around it. While some adoptees want to find their birth family, others do not. Some adoptee parents want to be found; others do not. For Dottie, her birth father, when found, wanted nothing to do with her. He had a new life with three adult children and wanted to be left alone. Out of curiosity, Dottie joined ancestry.com in order to find out anything she could about him but realized that without birthdates, etc., there was no way to begin. Although ancestry.com had her DNA, she simply stopped looking.
Miraculously, eleven years later her aunt, at eighty-four years young, decided to go on ancestry.com to search out relatives.
