  • #70 - The image of courage with Manjit Gauba on The Universal Radio Network

“The image of courage is normally about showing your toughness - however, courage is actually a little bit about the other side too. A lot of courage stems from showing your vulnerabilities. For myself, it was really about being vulnerable to my parents, and family members… letting them know I’m scared about going through with this path I’m not really keen about, I might spend all this money, time, and resources… so I had to be vulnerable, and that was the tough part.” - Manjit Guaba

Dr. Manjit Gauba, who has been serving the community in Alberta for nearly 20 years, is a practicing chiropractor who originally entered the profession due to his love for the natural approach that chiropractic care uses to feel better without the use of drugs or surgery. Manjit was inspired by the industry and the ability to improve his own health, and thus chose the path of becoming a chiropractor. Along with being a chiropractor, Dr. Manjit Gauba is also the founder of Divine Spine Clinics and the author of the book “It’s Hard Work to be Lazy.”

The Universal Radio Network’s Qashus had the chance to sit down with Manjit to discuss how he started in the chiropractic industry, how his business came to be, and much more in this interview.

At the beginning of the interview, Qashus and Dr. Manjit talk about his background and origins (20:02), what the spark was that made him change career paths (21:40), the beginnings of Divine Spine and how it came to be (26:54), if he enjoyed the entrepreneurial side of things when starting up his business (30:39), and what he thinks of the resources now available to everyone online (32:20). After a short break, Manjit dives into detail of what inspired him to write his book (34:14), past experiences in which he had to take action (38:53), how he introduced the power
of storytelling in his life and business (45:24), and what Manjit means when he says let the universe do the heavy lifting (52:43).

In the next part of the interview, Manjit discusses why living a healthy and active lifestyle is such an important part of his and his family's lives (56:45), what his daily routine is like, and how he manages his time (59:40), what his diet is like (1:02:57), and what advice he would give for people wanting to reach specific goals in their lives (1:08:01). At the tail end of the interview, Manjit talks about Divine Spine Clinics and what goals he has for his business (1:13:19), and how he got into real estate development (1:16:16).

  • #65 - Tina Singh, Founder of Bold Helmets on The Universal Radio Network

“I don’t want there to be a kid who must choose between their religious beliefs, and participation in sport and recreation - that should never have to be a choice that's made. Whatever choice you make for your own religious path is your own, and it shouldn’t be because sport didn’t allow for it.” - Tina Singh

Tina Singh is an occupational therapist, and content creator and is also the founder of bold helmets. Tina decided to tackle the issue of not being able to find recreational helmets that fit her kids, and with her experience as an occupational therapist in the area of brain injury, she knew she couldn’t let her kids ride their bikes without one. Tina and her husband created their own helmet that would be able to fit their kids and is now sharing these very helmets with the rest of the world for everyone else to acquire. Our very own Sapreet Buttar of the Universal Radio Network conducted a short interview with Tina to discuss the origins of Bold Helmets, and what it means to her to be able to share her ideas and inspiration.

At the beginning of the interview Sapreet and Tina talk about the beginnings of the creation of Bold Helmets and what was the inspiration behind it (1:52), what went on behind the scenes in order to make Bold Helmets a reality (2:47), and where the helmets are being currently manufactured (4:13). Tina then goes on to discuss how pre-sales are currently going (5:17), what motivated her to fill the systemic gap to give light to the next generation (7:16), and how we can include more diversity and inclusion in today’s society (9:33). Finally, Tina shares how the community feedback and support for her and Bold Helmets ever since its launch (10:43).

  • #62 - The International Student Crisis..Overdoses..Addictions..Mental Health

“It’s the little things that we can contribute - beyond that, the least we can do is extend kindness and empathy because I can’t imagine going to another country where I don’t speak the language at the age of 18 with my entire family’s hopes and dreams on my shoulders,” - Rumneek Johal, Press Progress

Rumneek Johal is a reporter at Press Progress based in British Columbia, where she shares stories on systemic inequality, workers, and communities, as well as racism and far-right extremism. Rumneek is not afraid to ask the tough questions within her community, igniting different conversations by chipping away at the status quo. The Universal Radio Network’s Sapreet Buttar sat down with Rumneek to discuss an article she wrote titled “International Students Are Dying at an Alarming Rate. But BC’s Government Isn’t Tracking the Problem” and a variety of topics within the article including the challenges and pressures international students face when coming to Canada, what we as a community can do to aid these students and more in this interview.

In the beginning of the interview, Rumneek explains her role at Press Progress (10:38), her intentions behind the article she wrote in regards to international students and drug overdose in British Columbia (11:54), the community reaction she received when she released the article (13:43), and the other effects that international students are experiencing that we might not necessarily understand but should try too in order to find the correct solutions (15:54). Afterward, Sapreet and Rumneek go in depth regarding the challenges Punjabi international students face, and the responsibilities the Gurdwara had to shoulder (18:56), the stigma that the South Asian communities faces and what we can do to break them (23:01), and the responsibility that Canadians carry in order to aid in the cause (26:07). On the tail end of the interview, Rumneek and Sapreet talk about whether employers pressuring these students are from the south Asian community, and the exploitation international students face (31:43), and finally whether the government, along with different universities and colleges are reaching out in trying to resolve the on-going issue (34:24)
