We come to you from Corona central, under a shelter in place order, and on a night when Bernie's path to the nomination has all but evaporated in a cloud of hand sanitizer. We provide recipes for cooking and eating your roommates, making limoncello at home, and discuss the varying responses to our new living conditions from the international community. President Xi please save us now.
We awoke hungover and disappointed about Super Tuesday II to interview Ashley Frawley, author, sociology lecturer, and frequent communicator of big structural ideas. We talk about the value of political labels, rhetorical limitations within the left, the creation of happiness, decolonization vs. deep colonization, and a whole lot more. We did all of this before breakfast, too...
Check out @AshleyAFrawley on Twitter and the Resisting Wokeness tour.
We're back from Mexico and it's Super Tuesday. We're not feeling all that super, though. We discuss Cuba and Miami's anti-communism concert. We try to figure out if Warren supporters can be saved, or are even worth saving. We also cover the sad spectacle of Ben Mora being fired for being too damned funny. Finally, we cover Arielle Scarcella leaving the "left".
We're live from Mexico (kinda) and answer all your thirsty listener questions. We cover Pete Buttigieg, Open borders, irony and seduction, and leftist self-care. This is a long one but we cover a lot of ground. Like the ground from the poolside bar to the gulf of Mexico, for example.
We're doing a free speech episode, which places us in the pantheon of online losers, but we promise this one is topical and sincere and not a single fedora was worn the entire time. We talk about Kaitlin Bennet, the gun girl who pooped her pants and asks dumb questions on college campuses. We also cover a number of issues where the left is getting owned on speech issues. You're going to want a platform to respond to all of this meaningful discourse in the marketplace of ideas!
Assigned Reading:
Bernie won New Hampshire and we're really happy about it. We catch up on some Pelosi antics and check in on some also-rans in the Democratic primary. Jameela Jamil came out as queer and we're totally ready to welcome her. We review a David Brooks article on the nuclear family and Gian just starts foaming at the mouth and raving about Marxism before we even finish explaining what the article is about.
Assigned Reading: David Brooks being terrible about families
We catch up on Iowa and the important issues of the day like the weather, but only to clear the ground for our interview with beauty expert and queer activist Mark Snyder on having a parent in jail, nonbinary identities, and the gay industrial complex. Mark also generously offers us some beauty tips to fix our busted faces. Sorry the audio is a little dicey in spots, we're gays and it is homophobic to tell us the mix is unbalanced.
Check out weirdforbeauty.com for more content from Mark and some of the oddest beauty treatments we've ever seen.
We're joined by Wendy Liu (@dellsystem), author of the forthcoming book 'Abolish Silicon Valley' (abolishsiliconvalley.com) to discuss the many glamorous virtues of Silicon Valley and the complete lack of downsides. We cover Wendy's journey from Silicon Valley insider to critic (i.e. from success story to hater), the many charms of Venture Capitalists, and the cycle of exploitation that ensures we have a constant stream of internet-connected juicers and laundry startups.
'Abolish Silicon Valley' is out April 14, 2020 from Repeater Books and is available for pre-order now (abolishsiliconvalley.com).
We discuss the Warren/Klobuchar New York Times endorsement despite having kinda overdone it on our pre-podcasting imbibing. We watched Netflix's "The Circle" and loved it. We read a trad gay article about DC gay kink events and hated it. We read a platform by the Rose Caucus of independent radicals running for Congress and we got kinda mad.
CW: At the 1 hour mark, just turn this off if you don't wanna hear us discuss a sexual assault case. Like, seriously, we left this for last because we don't talk about anything else.
We answer a follow-up question about identity politics and class analysis from last week's episode, and check in on our queer corporate overlords Jonathan Van Ness and Jeffrey Star. We talk about Jeffrey Star's new mansion (it's like MTV's "Cribs" but with more guillotine jokes). Meanwhile, Jessica Yaniv is having an extremely normal one in Canada, and Poland's center-left has solved homophobia. Finally, it turns out that radical worker moms might have solved the housing crisis in Oakland - Check out @moms4housing!
