Tune-in to The Locher Room for a very special episode dedicated to the international non-profit charitable organization, Twist Out Cancer. If you or anyone you know has been touched by cancer like I have, you won't want to miss this episode.
Twist Out Cancer provides psychosocial support to individuals touched by cancer through creative arts programming. The organization was founded on the principle that when you share, the world opens up. Its signature program is Brushes with Cancer, which is a six month program that matches those touched by cancer with artists to create a unique piece of artwork that reflects on their personal journey with cancer. Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with those touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey. Over a period of 4 months, pairs will connect virtually and their relationships are guided and supported by Twist Out Cancer mentors with the intention of creating a support system for both the artist and inspiration. The program finishes on a high note with our signature celebratory art exhibition, gala and auction where the artwork is revealed for the first time.
Joining me for the show is August Spree who is a cancer survivor herself. She met her partner Brad Young, who served as her artist for her Brushes with Cancer experience. August was so moved by this experience, she joined the Board of Directors for Twist Out Cancer and now serves as the Director of Programs. For this, she is the driving force for the planning and execution for the Brushes with Cancer programs. This includes everything from matching up Inspirations and Artists to work together as part of the program and planning for the annual events.
In addition to August, you will meet Artist Sara Zielinski who is working with Inspiration Pam Oliver, who lost her daughter to cancer. We will hear how Sara got involved and Pam will discuss what Twist Out Cancer calls, "The Reveal" which is always a very emotional experience for all involved.
Please join us to hear these inspiring stories and learn more about Twist Out Cancer.
