Nothing quite screams "BEACH!" like the month of January, but here we are. Beach Blast 1992 is some good old-school wrestling that your dad grew up on, but this PPV was actually riveting. Highlighted by 3 huge matches featuring Sting, Cactus Jack, Steamboat, Rude, the Steiners, and the Miracle Violence Connection, there was plenty on here to whet the appetite and none disappointed. What happens when you mix incredible talent, a smarky ground, and storylines with 0 emotional investment? A PPV with a repetitive and obvious tagline and 3+hours of mostly fine wrestling. The show starts off decent enough with Becky Lynch and a couple of great tag matches, but woof do the World Title matches leave A LOT to be desired. In what may be Jake's last episode of the year, we have decided to send him off with The Best TNA Match Ever and Other Wrestling, also known as Unbreakable 2005. While the number of Guys on this PPV might make your head spin, the matches themselves tend to be between mediocre and good, which is not meant as a slight. But the main event between Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and AJ Styles take the whole card up a notch with the only 5-Star Match in the companies lifespan. Makes a lot of sense that we go super juvenile for this week's episode. Death of WCW is always, well something, and Mayhem 2000 was certainly an example of some bad pro wrestling. 12 matches, none particularly memorable, tons of outside interference that overshadowed the matches, and will someone PLEASE get us more Lance Storm. ECW PPVs are few and far between on the Network, so it is always special when one pops up. While Barely Legal is certainly historic and influential, that does not mean all is good on this card. There are more spots than a dalmatian, all the iconic ECW guys, and classic ECW shenanigans that cause the flow to go out the window. Another 20-Teen WWE PPV, with some really interesting matches and stories and some that are not. John Cena and AJ Styles square off first the first time, a fantastic Money in the Bank match, Irish Lass Kicker Becky Lynch, and a tremendous main event between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins, with their Shield Brethren Dean Ambrose crashing the scene. If you wanted to sum up the essence of what average WWE in the mid-2000s was, this is it. A PPV that made little sense for continuity outside of a Cena-Rollins Tables Match, you can see why WWE has done away with this concept. Ambrose-Wyatt has its moments until it doesn't, stop trying to make "And Stairs!" a thing, and Chairs Matches just don't make sense. Not often you can witness a bygone era that was only 2 years ago, but that's exactly what we get with NXT Takeover Phoenix.
