Two And A Half Marks

Outdoor wrestling events are usually pretty interesting for one reason or another, whether it is the unique lighting it presents or the wrestlers competing not just with each other, but the environment as well. But, Road Wild just doesn't hit the mark, not even with Hogan and Nash in the main event. Well, this is a first. We get a peek at the peak of WCW with Starrcade 1996, a truly fantastic PPV with only some minor hiccups. Headlined by Hogan-Piper, the build-up to the match is loaded with dream matches, high work rates, a surprisingly good Luger-Giant match. Was the Attitude Era good? If it was, this certainly has a case for being the Rock Bottom (get it?) of that time. A main event between two injured wrestlers, the Oddities, a strip tease match, and just a lot of other mess. The Randomizer takes us a short trip to 2014, where the Shield are running rampant and Triple H has decided that Evolution is going to put them down for good. Some fantasy booking, cult leader Bray Wyatt, early Big E and the artist formerly known as Rusev. Forget the Randomizer! It is our turn to choose, and Jake has selected Dominion 6.9 2018! A heck of a NJPW show with a loaded card and 3 matches worthy of being a main event. But there can only be one, and that is the classic 2-out-of-3 falls match between Kazuchika Okada and Kenny Omega, the highest ranked match according to Dave Meltzer. Randomizer stays giving us PPVs firmly in our wheelhouse, this time with No Mercy 2008. Surprisingly, "Jaded" Jake Long has very few negative things to say! Rey wagers his mask, Jeff Hardy and HHH put on a show, Jericho and Shawn Michaels proceed to then steal that show, and a whole lot more. We are back in the mid 2000s, but this is very special episode. ECW One Night Stand was the first thing WWE rebooted from the Extreme Brand on behest of RVD, and it does succeed in being a solid memorial show. Just try not to think about Vince winning the ECW Title from a few episodes ago. Scheduling is a nightmare.

The Randomizer decided to keep the theme of 2000's WCW and gave us the gift of Super Brawl 2000. Fun fact, "gift" in German means poison, which seems fitting. When some of the better matches are Ric Flair and pushing retirement Terry Funk putting each other through a Texas Deathmatch & Kidman facing Vampiro in a surprisingly decent feud, you know where the ceiling is. Two And A Half Marks is not affiliated with the WWE/WWF/WCW/TNA/AEW/any promotion or any of the professional wrestlers named in this podcast.
