American speed skater Shani Davis, a double gold medal winner, skipped the opening ceremonies because he was not selected to lead the U.S. team in the opening ceremonies and carry the flag.

Davis reportedly said this was because of a scheduling conflict. However, he added he would have changed his schedule...if he had been chosen to carry the flag.
