The SEMO Football team is back on campus preparing for the 2020 football season this Fall, and the Ohio Valley Conference has announced the Preseason All-OVC Football Team honors, as well as the predicted order of finish. Four Redhawk student-athletes earned preseason All-OVC recognition. Senior safety Bydarrius Knighten earned second team All-OVC honors last season, as SEMO's third-leading tackler. He also recorded 1.5 tackles for loss, four pass breakups and a team-high three interceptions.

Southeast Missouri starting defensive tackle Daterraion Richardson is working an elite internship with the U.S. Marshals Service beginning this summer. A Corporate Communications major, Richardson was struck by tragedy less than two years ago when his older brother, Richard, died as a result of gun violence in Kansas City. Redhawk student-athletes have begun returning to campus, and one of their first actions was to give back to the community. A number of SEMO student-athletes, coaches and staff participated in the American Red Cross Community Blood Drive to help supplement summer blood shortages. The blood drive was Wednesday and Thursday at the Show Me Center to help address the urgent need for blood donations as hospitals resume surgeries and treatments that require blood products. Southeast Missouri State University unveiled refreshed spirit marks, including a new primary logo, wordmark and variations for its 15 athletic programs. The redesign features an official brand font to complement the marks, and a focused emphasis on 'SEMO' as the preferred reference for the University in Athletics and less formal communications. Despite finishing the spring semester remotely, Southeast Missouri's Department of Athletics closed out the 2019-20 academic year with an outstanding spring semester. SEMO accumulated a 3.53 grade point average this past spring, its highest of any semester in department history. A total of 12 teams achieved a 3.21 or higher GPA in the spring alone. Five different programs, including gymnastics (3.82), women's soccer (3.78), women's basketball (3.42), men's basketball (3.26) and football (2.94)

Southeast Missouri outfielder Justin Dirden has signed as a free agent with the Houston Astros. The O'Fallon, Missouri native boasted a .900 slugging percentage and was 9-of-9 in stolen bases at the time his senior season ended. Dirden was also hitting .414 with 20 runs scored, 29 hits, nine home runs and 26 RBI. He had three doubles, a pair of triples and eight walks, as well. Southeast Missouri assistant football coaches Ray Smith and Jerone Williams have been selected for Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship positions with National Football League teams. Smith will work with the Cleveland Browns and Williams will be with the Los Angeles Rams. Both will be involved in virtual duties such as game planning, breaking down film, installing playbooks and participating in special teams, position and staff meetings for the duration of OTAs, minicamps or Training Camp.

The 2019 Ohio Valley Conference Tournament Champion Southeast Missouri women's volleyball team recently announced its end of the year award recipients. Claire Ochs, a sophomore setter, was selected the Teammate of the Year. During the season, the team voted for a Teammate of the Week at the end of every week and Ochs collected the most votes over the season.
