  • Retail Roundup, pizza by post, drive in cinema. Two Voices Radio Podcast EP 143
This week, retail figures show people are shopping as if the corona virus is over. Non-store retailing (i.e. online) has grown by 53%. Andy tells us if he could avoid the High Street forever! Nick tells us about pizza by post... a clever business model. But is pizza making that complicated to start with? And as drive-in cinema takes off in the UK as a covid-safe way of going to the movies... would it entice normally shy cinema goers like us... as you benefit from sitting in the comfort of your own car? Let's discuss! Get in touch: [email protected]

  • Back of your head, flying ants, haircuts, Bullseye. Two Voices Radio Podcast EP 142
This week, we talk about seeing & hearing yourself from a different angle. Rochenda Sandall on last week’s podcast said how as an actor on TV watching back Line of Duty she realised she’d never before seen the back of her head!

Plus… going back for haircuts. The Bullseye remake and 60 years of the BBC TV Centre. Oh… and watch out for the flying ants! (Think Tippi Hedren in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds…but smaller!)

She tells of her excitement mooching around the iconic set and the challenges of filming during lockdown. We then ask her all about her role as nasty piece of work villain Lisa McQueen in the huge BBC TV hit drama Line of Duty. It's a lovely interview with a fantastic actor.

  • England's Super Saturday, Talking Heads, Obsolescence. Two Voices Radio Podcast EP 140
Apparently it’s Super Saturday in England… 4th July. You can get your haircut and get socially distanced drunk. Just wait to see the Daily Mail showing people throwing up in the street. We talk about how many people on furlough from work are actually reluctant to go back to their old way of working. Maybe time for a new way of life?

Then we discuss Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads currently airing on the BBC. They’ve been remade and Andy is really impressed. Nick recommends for frippery… “Miranda”… now quite an old comedy but fun slapstick nonsense that cheers him up! (Both on BBC IPlayer).

We talk about obsolescence in household equipment. Nick and Andy reveal their oldest household items. But sadly not everything from the past can last!

  • Bournemouth, Weather Forecasts, Haircuts & Barbers, Cinemas, Thatcher, Amazing Spaces EP 139
This week the Two Voices discuss “Corona virus is OVER” or you’d think so by looking at Bournemouth beach. As a nation obsessed with the weather we ask why forecasts are so inaccurate. Haircuts are back… we discuss if less talking in barber’s chair is a good thing. Plus… cinemas are re-opening. Nick hasn’t been since 2007 so he’s not rushing back. Andy’s TV recommendation for your viewing pleasure is “Thatcher: a very British Revolution” on the BBC Iplayer. Nick recommends “George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces” on the Channel 4 Player. • Pease Pudding, no-knead bread making, no coal, crafting on TV, 1940s radio EP 138
This week we are back together and discuss how much bread we are making (and eating). Andy made us eat pease pudding… a strange… but tasty ancient tinned foodstuff! We talk about how coal hasn’t been burnt in UK power stations for over 60 days… the longest time ever. We also make two recommendations… Nick suggests a great YouTuber who makes bread making easy with no kneading required “Artisan bread with Steve” (also at nokneadbreadcentral.com) . Andy recommends an online radio station that played great music… ideal for cooking to. 1940sukradio.co.uk

  • Weather's turned, gameshow review, wildlife encounters, more YouTube recommendations EP 137
The Two Voices start by reviewing ITV’s "Play your cards right". Now it’s aired we can tell you what it was like! The next show is our favourite… "The Price is Right". With all the “Come on down” running we question how sturdy studio seating is! Away from gameshows, We discuss how wildlife has come into our lives during lockdown. More birds and better flowers. “Springwatch” is back on air. Plus The UK’s Wildlife Trust is running a 30 day’s wild campaign: See wildlifetrusts.org Finally… you all seemed to like our You Tube recommendations special a few weeks ago. So we give you two more. Andy suggests “Simple Cooking Channel”. Nick suggests “Living Walks”. Both are excellent and worth a watch! Drop us a line with your recommendations: [email protected]

  • Barnard Castle, Archers, Slow Radio, Epic Gameshows EP 136
This week…we couldn’t avoid a mention of Dominic Cummings (& his goings). Andy tells as about “The Archers” in lockdown & a fan-site Zoom meeting he was involved in. Nick brings us a surprising radio find called “Slow Radio”. Plus… as you know The Two Voices are fans of old gameshows. So they’re both looking forward to Alan Carr’s Epic Gameshow. The Archers fan site we mention is dumteedum.com Get in touch with us [email protected]

  • Warden Hill Walk, triangulation pillars, Gardeners' World EP 135
Nick and Andy are back together (socially distancing) for a walk in the countryside. They consider the weirdness of lockdown. They talk about BBC Gardeners' World and Nigel the dog. We like the show… but the presentation style is very slow and they seem to be filling it with rehashed features & viewers’ videos. We’re not convinced about this! Plus... we talk about the benefits of walking as we make our way to a high point at Warden Hill in Bedfordshire to a triangulation pillar (trig point). These are marvelous markers across the UK that were used to plot Ordnance Survey maps. Join us for some fresh air! (Get in touch: [email protected])
