Chops had so much to ask 19-year old uni student, Harrison, about his generation... Which was unfair. However, he did the best he could to answer questions like: What do you think the working world is going to be like when you graduate? How motivated by money is your generation? How (face-to-face) social is your generation?

Inevitably the conversation turned to Ai a few times, and it was sad to hear Harrison say that he had NO idea how Ai was going to impact the industry he's hoping to work in; and how after his 7-years at Uni (yep, 7), he's fully aware that he might not even get a job doing it, because the world will have changed so much.

His worries aside, Harrison is having the time of his life at Uni, which in itself is an interesting reminder. Despite the astronomical costs of University now, it IS an amazing, liberating experience for young people (if done right). It's their first chance to be independent and in FULL control of their lives, without the pressures of day-to-day working (adult life).... Pressures that will grow and grow and which they'll spend the rest of their lives bearing. Putting all 'that' off for a few years has got to be good for the human soul and spirit, right?

Although Sara was always GREAT at maths, she actually pursued languages at college and Uni and then kind-of fell into accountancy, almost on a whim later on... Only to (go on and) absolutely boss it while working for some really big - and very complex and highly scrutinised - corporations.

Then, when she had her kiddies and moved away from the corporate world and into smaller, self-employed 'practice' accountancy, Sara (of course) bossed that. Whilst also bossing it as a mum to three.

And yet she doesn't necessarily see it that way; and like many of us, Sara is riddled with self-doubt and imposter syndrome.

There is undoubtedly A LOT to unpack here, and we barely scratched the surface with Gemma, so this is likely a first of many chats like this, with many different guests.

Our main focus, given Gemma's job as an IP and Trademark attorney, was to discuss Ai's impact on OG creators... The people that shot the images to start with; that established the design trends; that wrote the informative copy; that OWN the copyright and design rights to original content that Ai mines and harvests to create something new. Because 'in theory', it does create something new. It does what designers and writers have been doing for generations - taking inspiration from others - copying others to some extend (sometimes quite literally, hence why Gemma even has a job), and homogenising it into something new.

The main issue we therefore discuss with Gemma, is 'how new' is new. Because the level of 'new' and the originality of the end product is what impacts copyright, as Gemma explains eloquently.

Instead, Luci is an unassuming, brilliant combination of charisma and innate capability; all of which have almost seamlessly propelled her down the amazing career path that she's had. A career that has has seen her work for some amazing names and travelled (and been based) around the world, making full use of her multi-language skills.

When Maddy confirmed her 'International' role at clothing brand, Mint Velvet, she was an instant pod guest... Brilliant brand, doing brilliant things... We needed to know more!

Of course Maddy goes on to name-drop a plethora of other well-known retail brands she's worked for: Tesco, Wiggle, JoJo Maman Bebe, Huel... Yep, Maddy REALLY knows her stuff; and she gets paid well, and is able/allowed to work balanced 'family' hours, because aside of being absolutely lovely, Maddy is a highly trusted pair of hands who gets the job done and delivers results.

... Results that 100% change the trajectory of where a business is going - and makes that business very, VERY good money.

Hearing that bright, vibrant, colourful, Jodie, had spent the bulk of her career in accountancy... And that she still works as one, absolutely blew our minds!

... Because numbers people can't be really creative, too... Can they?

Yes they can. And Jodie is. She has curated a career that not only pays her well, for a job that she's really good at; but one that simultaneously allows her to explore and expand her creative side. A side that was innate in her, but had perhaps been silenced during her early working life, as corporate drive and ambition took centre stage.

Jodie is a brilliant example of people (and particularly women), fitting, but also 'not' fitting into boxes. And as their careers progressed, however successful that may have been, there's still an itch... An itch that's small and even relatively quiet at the start; but with time and circumstantial shifts, grows and grows, until it gets to a point that it just HAS to be scratched.

What is perhaps most interesting about Wayne's career, is how much of it came about because of 'chance' connections/reconnections. Chance meetings and 'bump-ins', where Wayne could have just decided to smile and walk by. Instead, he took the time to go up and chat to the people involved; ask some questions and find information out. Information that ending up putting him on whole new career and life paths.

The power of human connection, you see!

Combine that with just a fascinating industry that covers creative, technical, craftsmanship, sales, marketing, project management... Office design and fitting almost has it all, which makes it a real 'unicorn' industry... A secret unicorn industry (if there can be such a thing).

She's been flown around the world and been put up in amazing hotels, in order to observe meetings where the future of it all is discussed.

For a job/role like Caroline's, where you need to be hyper-focussed and hyper-organised, it's likely that to do such an job, and to be very good at it (as Caroline is), you're probably on some kind of ADHD spectrum. And that is said with love, because for people with that kind of brain, 'Operations' and logistics could well be a GREAT career for you... One where your channelled brain acts like a true super-power as opposed to a hindrance.

Either way, what Caroline emphasises with all of her varied (and sometimes bonkers mad) jobs, is her willingness to get stuck in, stay positive and do the best job she could do. Whether that's working behind a bar, scrubbing pots, or organisation multi-million-pound event expos around the world. And because of that, nearly every employer Carline's had, has wanted her to stay on and progress within that company.
