  • Typical Books EP145 - Mina's Child Review

Mina's Child by Paul Butler is a Typical Book and it fits right up on the Vampire shelf beside Dracula et al despite not being hard-boiled horror.

This was absolutely enjoyable. Not knowing what to expect, as there are so many vampire stories related tot he original Stoker book, this fits alongside Dracula and the Dacre Stoker books as well. While relying less on a supernatural angle and much more on setting and character, this is a new gothic that will please readers of literary fiction, historical, and horror alike.

  • Typical Books EP144 - Devil's Creek Review

It is a Typical Book in that I have a morbid fascination with cult and fundamentalist... zealots? Having grown up in a very spiritually open-minded home and town, this is creepy to me on other levels perhaps.   Devil's Creek by Todd Keisling - Religious or Cult Horror Fiction Review  I was having some sort of small allergic reaction so my skin is rough and maaaaaybe should have held off on the video but I wanted to talk about this one!

Sisters of the Moon by Alexandrea Weis from Vesuvian Books
Unsafe Words by Loren Rhoads from Automatism Press
Under Another Sun by D.M. Siciliano from Dark Diva Press

  • Typical Books EP138 - August Haul featuring Dracula

It is a Typical Book, and how! We went out this weekend as noted in photos I posted Sunday. Among the treasures - or loot, in keeping with the Diablo III Collector's Edition we brought home - I spied a new and lovely edition of Dracula on the shelves.

This, an almanac, and I'm Thinking of Ending Things by Iain Reid came home, which has been on my list for a long time.   Just a small haul, as it is not like I don't have many lovely books to read right now.   In other news, we are back at it on Dead Air Podcast at https://soundcloud.com/deadairpodcast, and you can catch me daily at 12:30 EST playing Diablo III as noted on https://www.twitch.tv/typicallydia!
