Today we talk about new horror books that are out right now. These are from HWA authors, but first I add to the bookshelves with a few books I left out of the last shopping spree. Also, this is StokerCon weekend! Congratulations to everyone on the ballot!

Today we talk about finding emotion in the many faces of horror stories. As noted, there are books and films mentioned here in a shortlist of fiction that elicited some emotion in me. That said, I have a fairly flat emotional response in general, so. while my reactions are tempered, they can be there, bubbling under the surface.

Read The Lake of the Dead by André Bjerke recently, and watched both films. Absolutely enjoyable classic Norwegian horror mystery. Being from the 40s, it's not a visceral haunting, but something far more subtle. This was a Patron pick, so thank you, fellow bookworms!

Often likened to Agatha Christie, I found it akin to Lovecraft by way of Nancy Drew. If that sounds odd, I'd say read some original Nancy Drew!

There are two film adaptations - Lake of the Dead in 1958 which stars the author as Gabriel Mörk, and a Shudder remake, Lake of Death in 2020. The new film may be a little more scary, but the original is far more beautiful.
