Deputy Minister Moraka is scheduled to travel to Asmara, Eritrea from the 29th to the 31st of October 2025. The purpose of the visit is to advance and strengthen bilateral relations with Eritrea.
Bilateral relations remain an important vehicle through which South Africa can enhance its cooperation with the countries on the African Continent, and the region specifically. The Horn of Africa region of East African is integral in repositioning South Africa as a respected global leader and as a key contributor to address domestic priorities especially alleviating poverty, unemployment, and inequality.
Eritrea is one of the countries that South Africa would like to strengthen relations with given the political, economic and security developments in the Horn of Africa. The working visit by the Deputy Minister will therefore provide an opportunity for South Africa to revive its relations with Eritrea by assessing progress required for the discussions centred around the operationalisation of the General Cooperation Agreement.
