  • Hope Can Get You a Long Way - episode 103

She has a strong faith and is not afraid to share it. The emphasis being on love, Rae O’Rourke has been navigating a difficult health diagnosis. She has sought, and learned, quite a bit a long the way. So much so that now she would like to share with others who might need tools and encouragement that have helped her.

I enjoyed reconnecting with Rae. I would say she is the picture of health: radiant, joyful, grateful. Her purpose has become clearer as she merges it with her passion, remembering to have grace for others including herself. And Rae knows hope can get you a long way. Just ask her. She is living proof.

  • Consistency and Prayer - episode 102

Ok, so today we had some major technical difficulties as the recording between Enitan, who is in a rural village in Nigeria with limited internet access, and me in California. You will note some delays. We did our best to navigate them and press on. I found his persistence in getting back on the call close to a dozen times evidence of all he shared during our conversation. Consistency. Putting in your best.

Having been on the show before in Capturing Life through a Lens, episode 76, Enitan and I have become friends. I will say that is one of the great things about social media. Meeting new people and making a real connection. He asked if he could come back on the show and of course I said yes. Since we are in the Believe series I got to find out what he believes and how that shows up in his life. Inspiring? Yes.

  • The Celebration Continues with Amanda and Priscilla - episode 101

In short we celebrated so much it looked like we could divide the episode into two. So we did, with Shaun returning as co-host. Today we give you Amanda and Priscilla with their answers to some playful questions. On the more serious, encouraging side, they share how they are being more themselves, along with what they believe in and why. There answers may surprise you.

What I am loving about the Believe series is there is no topic under which these questions should be answered. Guests are taking the questions in all kinds of directions and that’s what makes this unique. Just like each one of us is unique, so are our stories and how we approach revealing pieces of ourselves to others. I appreciate how UY guests come bravely as themselves with vulnerability, share with us authentically, and are transparent - a window into who they are. Let’s all do more of that please. It matters because you matter. And there’s nothing better you can do than to be fully you.

  • Celebrating UY’s 100th - episode 100

We are celebrating our 100th episode today.  It’s been a wonderful, challenging, fulfilling ride.  And one we want to keep going.  I asked Shaun to sit in with me.  We’ve invited a couple of past guests Amanda and Priscilla to join us - you will find them on the next episode.  We’re switching up the usual get-to-know-you section and adding the believe questions to round it out.  It adds up to a memorable time.

Yes, I am deeply moved by the power of people just like you, just like me, to have impact through the simple act of having a conversation and sharing a piece of who you are with the rest of us.  Thank you for making these past 100 episodes a thing of beauty, for becoming a part of who I am.  May I continue to serve by encouraging you in the next 100.  Oh and if you want to be on the show let me know.  We can make that happen.

  • Understanding then Compassion then Love - episode 99

I am a fan of today’s guest, Colby Martin. He and his wife, Kate, are co-pastors of a church I attended. What makes me a fan is the humility in which he conducts himself. Plus he makes God beautiful which is the best thing I can say about anyone. In our conversation we talk about the woman who inspires him to burst out of his progressive bubble, whether he actually has an embarrassing tattoo, and why Lord of the Rings is his favorite movie.

Most of us believe we each get one life and what we do with it is the gift of being here. While Colby is in the process to “improve” he has the opportunity to lead a group of people toward full stop love and acceptance. Isn’t it a far better choice to err on the side of treating other people, everyone in fact, the way we want to be treated?

  • I Believe in Looking Forward - Episode 98

After having Chris on the show I decided to move his episode into our newest series, the Believe series. You will hear me introduce him as a By Request guest but I changed my mind. I’ve heard it said a woman has that prerogative. Giggle, giggle. Really get ready for about a dozen truth bombs Chris drops on us throughout this episode. Very impactful, based in reality and ready to apply. Enjoy!

Are you ready to ask yourself some questions? Because you already have the answers to who you are. We don’t need to operate from a place of default. Let’s move into the space of design, where we get to pick our best life because we have that special thing that only we can share. Let’s look forward.

You can find Chris on Instagram at Chris Barber Coaching and on his website Chris Barber Dream Builder Coach.

  • Share Food with the People You Love - Episode 97

We’ve got a treat for you today. The word “treat” conjures up a sweet little something after a good meal. That’s what today’s By Request is all about: a good meal of plant-based, healthy, delicious food. Let’s start with the undeniable passion Naeemah has for creating and preparing. Then add the experience of being in the kitchen with family members, fold in a generous portion of curiosity and you have Nourish with Naeemah.

What I appreciate about her is she encourages and educates without trying to convert. I had questions that came up for me in my own eating. Naeemah was accepting and informative never pushy or judgmental. She understands the desire to enjoy our food and has the knowledge base to make that happen in a way that supports optimal health. Clearly loves what she does and it shows. The proof is in the pudding.

  • What Lights You Up? - episode 96

Here’s what I noticed right away about Lauren, our By Request guest for today. At her young age she has already dabbled in many different kinds of things. She’s taken her entrepreneurial spirit and applied it by being creative, freelancing and doing what is necessary in her work to be exactly who she wants to be.

Not only is Lauren trying the new thing of coaching, she is doing it with gusto. She has confidence it will work out and is not afraid to seek the help of those who have gone before her. I have no doubt she will land on her feet no matter how this latest chapter goes. Lauren will take what she has learned and will remember to pivot.

  • She Loves Poetry - episode 95

Sasha Williams is today’s guest. She’s a single mom to four kiddos. By her own admission they are her reason for surviving and doing so quite well. You see Sasha is a domestic violence survivor and she is quite proud of having made it through victorious.

Expressing herself through the experiences she’s had, the emotions she feels and her thoughts about the world, Sasha creates poetry. It was something in her from an early age and now she wants to inspire other women through the thing that comes naturally to her.

You can find Sasha on Instagram at Sasha Williams on IG. You can also find her book on Amazon here The World Through Her Eyes.

  • Learning to be in the Moment - episode 94

Oh my goodness. This 25-year old has some major wisdom to share with us today. WAs I that insightful at her age? I’d like to think so but I wonder. Michelle Blackwell or Mimi as she’s known has recently taken a big risk and switched careers. She shares with us her desire to be more fulfilled in her work life and all she has learned in this season of her life.

I’m not sure if it was a bracelet or earrings. You likely heard a little jingle throughout our conversation. I’m going to liken it to Christmas bells…From changing small things, like your daily habits, to bigger things like shifting your mindset, Mimi knows growth occurs outside your comfort zone. I applaud the truth of this. It’s worth the risk to do the scary thing. Otherwise you’ll always wonder, What if I’d done that? Let’s say it doesn’t work out. Well then you have some new things to take with you to the next thing. And by all means, learn to be in the moment.
