  • Recovery Minute - Expectations

New this Season on Unashamed Recovery is the Recovery Minute, a weekly encouragement to help keep you sober.

To go along with our last episode, the c word : codependency & recovery, this Recovery Minute is all about Expectations and how we treat others in the way we treat ourselves. Sometimes we project the expectations we have on ourself onto others. We need to remember to view others with the same tolerance and gentleness we want in our own life.

Next Monday, March 20th, is our next episode, Ep 037 Broken but Restored with guest Brent "Tank" Gilbert.

  • Ep 036 | the C Word : Codependency & Recovery

We are back for another season! We kickstart season 4 with a topic episode on something that is becoming more and more common in recovery circles around the country....CODEPENDENCY!

On this first episode of season 4, Josh sits down with Aislin Jayroe of Open Minds Counseling in Philadelphia, MS. We figured why not jump head first into season 4 and that is what we are doing with this topic on codependency. So much confusion, myth, and misinformation surrounds the very idea of codependency that it puts fear and anxiety into our minds before we even begin to understand it. Josh and Aislin break down what is codependency and connect the dots on how we can implement a game winning strategy in our recovery against it and also what the Bible says about codependency. You just may be surprised what we found as we destigmatise the c word.

Scripture to help with Codependency :

    Micah 7:5‭-‬7

    Exodus 14:14

    Psalms 1:1

    Gal 1:10

    1 Peter 5 : 7

    Proverbs 3:5-6

    2 Timothy 1:7

    2 Chronicles 20:12-15

    Hebrews 12:14-15

    Romans 8:28

    Psalms 23:1

    Hebrews 12:2

    Psalms 139:1-3

    Philippians 4:6-7

    Jeremiah 29:11

    Exodus 20:3

    Romans 12:2

And of course the Serenity Prayer

  • Ep 032 | No Shame

Some call him the Recovery Guru some call him the Recovery Doctor with a PHD in Life.

This month, Josh & Drew sit down with Jay, a ex garbage can junkie with a buffet style drug use who has turned his life around and living the sweet recovery life. Jay's recovery path is a little off the beaten path and is not the normal journey.

Jay, a local Mississippian, takes us down into the pages of his story. From a rough childhood to a lover of rum cake, all the way to a career as a firefighter chasing adrenaline; Jay was using the experience of trauma as an excuse to use. His passion for helping was ultimately setting the stage for his later downfall in addiction. So pull up a seat as we get a front row experience into Jay's life of no shame.

  • Ep 031 | Love Lived Out

Last month, we heard a remarkable story of how one person was saved by grace.

In this month's episode we are looking at addiction from the point of view of the spouse of an addict.

Josh and Drew sit down with Krisha, the founder of Spouses Choosing Hope in Addiction and Recovery [S.C.H.A.R.] a support group that is for the spouses of addicts. Krisha drops us right into the middle of her story that set the stage to ultimately create S.C.H.A.R. and how it was born out of recycled pain when she found out she had been married to an addict. At the end, Krisha learns what it truly means of love lived out.

  • Ep 030 | Saved By Grace

Last month, Josh and Drew talked on what it meant to Live Unashamed. On this episode we see a first hand example of that. Josh and Drew sit down with Kristen who just celebrated 6 years of sobriety! But as Josh and Drew dig into Kristen's story, we learn it hasn't always been rainbows and butterflies. Kristen's story is like so many others and yet hers is so different. Even her pathway to recovery is not your typical journey. So, buckle up, pour a glass of sweet tea and dig in as Kristen walks the guys through her story of addiction and how she eventually ended up in the South where her story took an unexpected turn when she was saved by grace.

  • Ep 029 | Living Unashamed

Eventually we will get to a place inside our recovery that will require us to step outside of the blanket of protection that our anonymity provides. Step 12 requires us to share what we have learned with others; to give back to the program that gave so much to us. When we work the program properly, by the time we get to Step 12, we should be at a place of healing that now allows us to own our story and to be comfortable in shedding the anonymity and sharing the hope. In this episode Josh & Drew talk what it means to live unashamed in our recovery and sobriety, after all it is our namesake, so trust us when we say we are semi professionals when it comes to living unashamed!
