On this episode of Unashamed Recovery, Josh and Drew sit down with Stacy Dodd. Stacy has many titles and wears many hats in and out of the recovery community. Most recently adding author into the mix of things.
Stacy walks us through his story of redemption that began during his childhood. Addiction caught him early in life and it led him down the road to homelessness. However, that homelessness is where he found God, right in the middle of his rock bottom with all his belongings in a backpack. He found God’s bigger purpose for his life right there in the woods on a log....this is Stacy’s Story from the pit to the palace.

Who’s ready for a topic show? It’s been since Season 1 where we have sat down and discussed addiction & recovery related topics. We figured it was time to change that! So on this episode of Unashamed, Josh & Drew are talking about a road block we all face at one time or another in our recovery journey—discouragement. The thing about discouragement is that it can come out of anywhere and can come from anything. If we are not careful that doom & gloom hanging over our recovery can lead to a relapse. Are you currently in a season of discouragement in your recovery? How has your sobriety been effected by that?

Recovery fam buckle up for one wild ride as we take you deep into Haley's incredible, drama filled story. It is pretty evident that even at a young age God's fingerprints were all over Haley's life. From an abortion to heavy substance abuse, to the IMPOSTER, Haley's story is full of obstacles, trials, and eventually a rock bottom that you just have to hear for yourself to believe. But even at rock bottom in the midst of despair and hopelessness, one thing remained constant....God's fingerprints were still all around her.

Our last episode told the tale of a common battle for men. Episode 016 continues that tale and then some. Dana's story tells the opposite side of that coin, the stigmatized porn addiction struggle of women. Dana's story begins with the childhood trauma of severe blame and eventually multiplies with grief. Like most porn addicts, the addiction soon progresses into sex addiction and Dana find herself in numerous relationships but none seem to fill in the void in her life. None seem to fill in that lingering feeling of being alone.

As we continue into Season 2, Josh takes a turn in the hot seat for this episode.
Josh's story is a lot like many other men. Josh's drug of choice isn't your typical fix of drug or alcohol. At a young age Josh was introduced to porn and from that moment he was thrown into the rabbit hole that he didn't escape from for over 20 years. What started off as a 'innocent' image of the monthly playmate led to infidelity. Inside the chaos of Josh's addiction, he did like so many addicts and learn to embrace the use of masks to survive. Josh had a mask for everything.. One for church, another for work, a home mask, family mask, husband mask, father mask, and the list went on. Josh became very good at juggling those masks and became good at wearing the right mask at the right time to be the person he was expected to be. Masks gives us the illusion that we are in control. Even at rock bottom Josh still thought he was in control of his addiction.
Check out masks: the war with myself.

On part 2 of our second episode of Season 2, we pick back up with our sit down with your favorite co-host Drew. Since coming on as co-host for season 2, we thought it would be a great idea to tell his story.....and here is the second part and conclusion to his story. Drew picks right back up where we left off. Right in the middle of his downward spiral while amassing over a whopping 158 arrests. If you didn’t catch our previous episode definitely go back and take a listen before hitting play on this one.

On our second episode of Season 2, we sit down with your favorite co-host Drew. Long time listeners of the show may remember Drew from early in Season 1 [episode 4] as he talked about his personal experience with Relapse. Since coming on as co-host for season 2, we thought it would be a great idea to tell the rest of his story.....well part 1 of his story anyway. Drew takes us deep into his story that truly starts from birth. A story that is full of one's continuous struggle with identity, purpose, grief and even anger. Take all those and mix in years of drug abuse you have the perfect storm that strips away everything and leaves only the shell of a man.

Welcome back Recovery Fam! Thanks for checking out this first episode of Season 2 with the amazing, Shauna Wade. Get ready for a staggering and thrilling journey that takes us off the beaten path of recovery. Did you know that over 80% of people with a opioid addiction, started with a legitimate prescription for a legitimate medical issue? And that is exactly the situation Shauna had found herself in. A legitimate prescription to control legitimate pain sustained from a wreck. That was when Shauna found herself completely submerged into the prescription opioid epidemic that had saturated post- Katrina Mississippi. Shauna, your ordinary soccer mom, was soon in unfamiliar territory as DEA agents surrounded her car and had her face down in a parking lot in Hattiesburg, MS in August of 2008. Her opioid addiction had spiraled out of control and had landed her into forging prescriptions throughout South Mississippi. But through those wounds came the gift of a second chance that she spends helping others lost in addiction.
