The Secret Message
As I strolled up and down my driveway
I noticed a rustling sound
and finally stopped to take a look
and noticed there on the ground
was a scampering family of chipmunks
who delighted me with their ways-
as they jumped and scurried and climbed
and made the tall grasses sway.
Then quite suddenly, Time stopped
as I was drawn into their world -
Who knew that just a flick of a tiny tail
could command such a Mystery to unfurl?
I saw the Truth of being in the moment
The necessity in starting from wherever you are
How we must be fully present with whatever is there
But how that's the easiest thing to do, by far
Because, then 'Fullness' wraps it's arms around you
and 'Lack' completely leaves the room
and your vision begins to clear
as your new perception begins to bloom.
And somehow I found myself in my forgotten garden
and noticed that it's bounty had stubbornly increased.
Because the plants still continued bringing forth their fruit
long after my planting had ceased.
In this way, our lives bring forth all we've planted
though sometimes hidden in the deepest corners of our souls
But it's always merely doing as commanded
it doesn't judge, and it doesn't console.
Somehow, we don't realize we planted it
with cloudy eyes that fail to see
And we can continue to not understand it
Or reach into our pocket for the Key
Do you see a familiarity?
Do you sense a stirring of something now recalled?
We must reach through the mist for what we know to be there
Rather than relying on what we've blindly installed
We must go deeply into the beauty
and the endless fertility of the Mind
And look fearlessly into It's eyes
for there, the secrets we seek are enshrined
We'll see that it's everywhere we go
And it's everything that we do
And soon, even everyday chores
Will offer up joys, renewed
Perhaps present you a Rose of Perfection
An astonishing token of boundless affection
A revealing gesture of your intimate connection
but still the fruit of your unconscious selection
How wonderful. How confusing.
Yet, this is how it goes
As we adapt to this new Beauty -
As we reach into the flow
And discover what surrounds us
instead of what we think we see
and let the simple joys compound us
for they contain this Mystery
It's all much easier than you may have imagined --
There's nothing to 'get', only things to release
Just look freshly, without judgment, and love deeply, without fear
For only the eyes of a child hold this Peace.
