As an early reader, Caroline Cooper recalls always having a book in hand then found comfort, peace, and joy in music. Later, she realized that she used both to cope with the trauma she experienced. She discloses that she had developed an unhealthy fantasy life (thought life) that was not God-pleasing. One pivotal point in life was at the age of 10 in Northwest Missouri. Another was in adulthood as a wife and mother who did not understand the struggles with depression and anxiety. God intervened and told her it was time for a change. Healing began, and she worked through her issues that included how her family experienced during her years of recovery.

Caroline S. Cooper works in Mental Health Ministry. She is a writer, speaker, and host of a YouTube show and podcast called Mental Health & Faith: A Closer Look. She has led a Christ-centered mental health support group for 15 years.

In this powerful episode of UNBOXED on Purpose, Rev. Dr. Barbara A. F. Brehon sits down with Caroline S. Cooper, a mental health ministry leader, certified peer specialist, and host of Mental Health & Faith: A Closer Look. Caroline shares her journey of overcoming trauma, depression, and anxiety, revealing how God led her to healing and a greater understanding of mental wellness through faith.

💡 Key Topics Discussed:

✔️ Using books and music as early coping mechanisms

✔️ Recognizing and healing from unhealthy thought patterns

✔️ The pivotal moments that led to transformation

✔️ Balancing faith and mental health recovery

✔️ How the healing process impacts the family

Caroline’s testimony is a reminder that God’s grace is present even in our deepest struggles. If you or someone you love has faced mental health challenges, this episode offers encouragement, faith-based insights, and practical tools for healing.

Summary: He humbly describes being overwhelmed that God would trust him with responsibilities, being husband and father with gifts and talents. Within the last year he has spiritually grown with a heightened sense discernment and conviction. He is present in his sons’ lives at home and on the sports field as soccer, football, baseball, and basketball coach. He mentors the young people and they know he cares. He plays a vital role in his community. He believes in holding others as well as being held accountable for being righteous in your faith walk. Jerrell Golden, who previously appeared in Episode 15, which was released on April 25, 2024. It was entitled “Christian Hip Hop” and you can see that today’s title is Pruning Season.

My treat today is Jerrell Golden. He returns to UNBOXED on Purpose for another powerful conversation! Hailing from Tappahannock, Virginia, Jerrell is a devoted Man of God, husband, father, author, minister, full-time employee at a paper mill, and an award-winning international Christian recording artist.

From an early age, Jerrell cultivated a deep love for lyricism and music, drawing inspiration from his upbringing and the resilience of his mother. His journey has been one of perseverance, tenacity, and authenticity—breaking out of the box that once misrepresented who he truly was.

In this follow-up episode, we dive deeper into his story, his music, and his mission to inspire others through Christian hip hop. Jerrell first appeared on UNBOXED on Purpose in Episode 15 (April 25, 2024), where we explored "Christian Hip Hop." Now, he’s back for Pruning Season!
