  • MD007 // Before You Can Lead Your Marriage, You Have to Lead Yourself

Yesterday, I got it wrong with my wife.

There was pressure on both of us. Planning. Work. Kids. Life.

    She shocked me.

    I shocked her back.

And suddenly we weren't husband and wife trying to solve something together.

    We were me vs. her.

I got defensive. I shut down. I walked away.

But eventually I was faced with a choice:

Let enough time pass that we could pretend nothing happened…

    or go first.

So I regulated myself, walked back into the house and told her:

“I'm not proud of the way I acted back there. It wasn't okay. I'm sorry. I love you.”

    That was it.

No justification. No pointing out where she was wrong. No 45-minute processing session.

    Repair.

This is something I think we're missing in most conversations about marriage.

We can learn communication tools. Read the books. Learn to listen, validate, empathize and turn toward our wives.

But when we're physiologically flooded, we lose access to much of what we know.

The work underneath the tools is becoming a man capable of remaining self-regulated and self-led when the pressure comes. Because the pressure will come.

    That's today's MicroDose:

    Regulate.
    Offer your strength.
    Go first.
    Make the repair.

Then get back to loving each other.

  • 80 – Be the Person You Want Your Kids to Become w/ Matt Beaudreau

    The real question isn’t just:

“How do I raise good kids?”

    It’s:

“Who do I want my children to become?”

And then comes the harder question:

Am I willing to become that person first?

Matt Beaudreau has spent two decades in education working with young people and families, and his argument is brutally simple:

Our kids don’t need another version of “do as I say, not as I do.”

They need adults willing to examine their own psychology, health, marriage, finances, faith, habits, standards, relationships and distractions — and actually live the things they want their children to inherit.

We get into raising leaders, creating intentional environments, teaching self-discipline instead of control, directing masculine energy instead of crushing it, and why “they’ll probably turn out fine” isn’t good enough.

Because eventually our kids see the gap between what we preach and how we live.

And hypocrisy doesn’t raise strong men and women.

    Example does.

Matt Beaudreau joins us at PATRIARCH // September 11–13 alongside Ryan Michler, Nate Feathers, Pat Barber, Mike Salemi, Daniel Grose, Gabriel Mira, Steph Allen and myself.

  • MD006 // Only Skynet Runs Infinitely. When You Try to Match It, You’ll Break.

Modern life asks your brain to do something it was never built to do:

    Never stop.

Emails. Texts. DMs. Money. Work. Notifications. Screens. AI generating another mountain of information before you’ve processed the last one.

And then we wonder why we’re fucking exhausted.

Why we come home with nothing left for our wife and kids.

    Why we’re irritable.

    Why we can’t be present.

Why we reach for counterfeit comforts that only dig the hole deeper.

The threat might be mental. But the stress response is physical.

This Microdose is about what happens when human beings try to keep pace with machines — and the practices we need to reclaim if we’re going to remain human in a world demanding more and more from us.

    Then we breathe.

We get out of the endless human doing and return to human being.

    Back into the body.
    Back into the senses.
    Back into presence.
    Back into alignment with God.

    Only Skynet runs infinitely.

When you try to match it, you'll break.

  • MD005 // When You Can't Stop Looking At The Waves...

    Life gets heavy.

Money. Work. Marriage. Kids. The thing that broke. The thing you can’t control. The thing you don’t know how you’re going to fix.

And before long, you can be sitting fifteen feet from your family while living completely inside your own head.

    This Microdose is different.

We’re not just talking about self-regulation.

    We’re practicing it together.

    Breathwork. Heart coherence. Prayer.

And a lesson that hit me at the end of today’s practice:

    Peter walked on water too.

    The storm was already there.

    The wind was already blowing.

    The waves were already moving.

What changed was where he put his attention.

The goal isn’t a life without storms.

It’s becoming the kind of man who can walk through one without losing himself, his family, or his faith.

    Keep your eyes up.

    // Godspeed.

  • 79 – Your Kids Will Inherit Your Money Story w/ Stephone Allen

Your kids are going to inherit your relationship with money.

Not just the money you leave them.

    The stories.
    The beliefs.
    The habits.
    The fears.
The way you earn it, spend it, save it — and talk about it when you think they aren’t listening.

Most of us were never actually taught how to lead our families financially.

We learned how to balance a checkbook. Maybe make a budget. Then we were sent into adulthood and expected to figure out debt, investing, retirement, insurance, providing for a family, building wealth — and eventually teaching our children how to handle money themselves.

So we do what humans do.

We inherit a money story from our parents. They inherited theirs from their parents. And unless somebody decides to question it, we pass it down.

Stephone Allen grew up without money. Made plenty of his own mistakes with it. And eventually realized:

We don’t have to struggle just because the people before us did.

Providing isn’t just making more money.

It’s becoming financially educated. Living beneath your means. Delaying gratification. Building something for the future. Actually DOING something with what you learn.

And then teaching your children differently — not only by what you tell them, but by what they watch you do.

Because at some point in every family line, somebody has to decide:

This doesn’t have to keep going.

    Learn better.
    Build better.
    Leave better.

  • MD004 // Why You Feel So Tense Right Now

Most men I know are running close to capacity.

Money. Time. Marriage. Fatherhood. Health. Emotional bandwidth. Faith.

Then something small happens — an unexpected bill, a hard conversation with your wife, your kid melts down — and somehow it feels enormous.

The problem isn’t always the size of what hits us.

Sometimes there’s simply nowhere left to put it.

In this Microdose, I unpack what I think a lot of husbands and fathers are experiencing right now: the disappearance of margin, why becoming harder isn't the answer, and what it means to build the capacity to carry more without bleeding that pressure onto the people we love.

Because whatever is happening inside of us—

    our families are receiving it.

    PATRIARCH // SEPTEMBER 11–13

PATRIARCH is a 3-day virtual summit built around the six battlefronts modern husbands and fathers are navigating:

  • 78 — If Your Kids Don’t Respect You, They’ll Find Another Man to Follow w/ Ryan Michler

Your kids know how you carry yourself.

They know whether you keep your word.
    Whether you can handle pressure.
Whether you live by the standards you expect from them.
    Whether you're disciplined.
    Whether you're present.
Whether you're actually someone worth listening to.

And eventually, “because I’m your dad” won’t be enough.

Your authority might get compliance while they're young.

But authority alone won't make them value your opinion when they're older.

It won't make them call you when they're facing the biggest decision of their life.

And it won't make them choose your example when there are a thousand other men competing for their attention.

That influence has to be earned.

Ryan Michler and I get into what creates that kind of respect: discipline AND curiosity. Standards AND relationship. Having the strength to give your kids something solid to push against while caring enough to enter their world and actually know them.

Because we're not raising children who will always have to listen to us.

We're raising future adults who will eventually decide for themselves who is worth following.

    Become that man.

  • MD003 // How Good Marriages Become Roommate Marriages

You don’t wake up one morning suddenly disconnected from your wife.

Life gets heavy. Work piles up. The kids need everything. You’re both exhausted. And slowly, two people who deeply love each other start coping beside each other instead of connecting with each other.

That’s how the roommate phase happens.

Marriage isn’t 50/50. It isn’t “I’ll show up when you show up.” It’s a sacred union—and that means staying ALL IN, especially when life gets hard.

Put the phone down. Ask her where she’s at. Listen. Get curious about her again. Remember the woman whose soul you once wanted to know everything about.

You don’t have to accept disconnection as the inevitable cost of marriage, kids, and a busy life.

    Fight for the union.

  • 77 — He Asked "Why Me?" God Said, "Why NOT You?" w/ Gabriel Mira

When Gabriel Mira's wife entered the hospital, he asked the question every husband and father eventually asks:

    "God... why me?"

The answer he believes he received changed everything.

    "Why not you?"

What followed was 254 straight days in the hospital, impossible diagnoses, countless moments where hope seemed gone, and a front-row seat to what happens when a man decides to stop living like a victim and start carrying the banner.

This conversation isn't about having all the answers.

It's about faith when you don't.

It's about leading your family when you're exhausted.

It's about praying with conviction instead of resignation.

It's about choosing courage when fear feels justified.

Most of all, it's about accepting that your hardest battle may not be punishment.

    It may be your assignment.

If you're a husband, father, or simply a man trying to become someone others can lean on, this conversation is for you.
