I would take an inheritance of deep breath and powerful language over an inheritance of a billion dollars any day.

Only men can make a man.

In an age where we’re surrounded by our wives and kids, it’s increasingly necessary for for to step out of the home, to surround ourselves in brotherhood, and to go through the gauntlet of challenge and adversity together.

Without this, we never truly know whether we have what it takes. We never truly know what we’re capable of, and we can never truly experience our own potential.

And the man who doesn’t face his own limits, the one who doesn’t strive for his potential, is the man who limits the potential of his family.

This is how we get TRAPPED in status-quo ordinarily lives where things aren’t BAD, but if we take an honest look, there’s a LOT that we’re leaving on the table.

It takes a real Uncommon Man to stand as the lighthouse for his family when the seas are rough and the storms are raging.

The man who is unable to do this is thrown by the waves of life, falling into coping behaviors, addictions, reactivity, husbanding and parenting like his OWN father, and is constantly thrown off center by the moods of his wife and the behavior of his kids.

He is the lighthouse that can stand tall amidst any storm that life throws his way, lighting the way from the brightness and warmth of his heart.

In tribes, the chief does not seize his role through force. Rather, it is the members of the tribe who entrust him with that role and responsibility.

Fatherhood is this peak experience that spans 18 years.

It’s imperative that we do the work to be a part of our kids lives NOW, so that they’ll want to stay a part of ours later.

We model the behavior of the men that came before us.
