Hey everyone, and welcome to unconventional wellness radio, powerful and inspiring podcast sets of revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's time to put you in the driver's seat. That'd be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted.
Frank: (01:07)
Hey guys, how are you? This is Frank and this is unconventional wellness radio and I'm just going to flat out jump right into it because I didn't want to keep you any longer and build up any more suspense. Uh, but I have a friend of mine on this podcast episode for today. Uh, you probably know who she is because if you have even considered dabbling in any type of homesteading or heritage cooking, uh, will definitely trust me. We will make sure that you're experts on what heritage cooking is even all about. Uh, but I have Jill winger, uh, from the Prairie homestead on my podcast today and I'm extraordinarily excited to be able to actually speak with her about everything that she's got going on in her life. And, uh, we are going to get transparent and, uh, probably a little raw and real. And we're going to dive into what makes Jill winger, uh, just such a wonderful light and such a wonderful inspiration to a lot of people who know her not only through her podcast but also through her website.
Frank: (02:14)
Uh, the Prairie homestead. She's a friend of ours that we met mutually, uh, a couple of years ago. Uh, and we have just fallen in love with both her and her husband, Christian, who have this really wonderful a homestead out in Wyoming and that they now are raising so many different types of animals. And we'll talk about all of those and we'll talk about all the wonderful things that she's doing on the homestead. But I am so grateful, Jill, for you being on the podcast today. I am just so excited about what the next, who knows how many minutes entail. Yes, me too. Thank you so much for the invite. I've been looking forward to this. Absolutely. So, uh, just to let you guys know, if you don't know who Jill is, first of all, you just need to Google her and find out who she is and go check out her website, the Prairie homestead.com.
Frank: (03:00)
But she is a, uh, an online, she has a, an online space which is dedicated to helping people who feel disenchanted by modern life and wants to return to their roots without forgot foregoing modern conveniences. And so she is developed this really wonderful hybrid system of being able to say like, you can be traditional, but it's completely understandable and fine for you to be able to use some of these advances that we have in our modern, uh, capabilities for practical and authentic style of teaching. And storytelling has won over the hearts of over get this guys, 750,000 people. Yes, I said that right? Three quarters of 1 million homesteaders across social media who are looking to her for advice and reassurance and creating from scratch meals, tending chickens, and even growing their first cart. And so thank you so much again, Joe, for joining us today.
Jill: (03:53)
You bet. It's going to be fun.
Frank: (03:55)
Now you just correct me if our mom, but didn't you just get done or are you not getting ready to go to a pretty large homesteading conference? That is actually on my side of the United States.
Jill: (04:05)
Yeah, we just got back, well just got back a couple of weeks ago to the from home centers of America. And if anyone listening to this podcast is, I'm sure you probably are interested in home settings. I know Frank, you and Jackie do some home setting as well, but um, any audience members check it out. If it's every single year, it's in October, it's in Virginia and it's fantastic. It's just workshops and presentations and a lot of, you know, YouTube, homesteaders and homestead influencers are there and it was a fantastic time
Frank: (04:36)
and I'll be, I'll be the one to go ahead and um, you know, name drop and stuff like that. But Jill absolutely was one of the highlights, and I correct me if I'm wrong, but one of the keynotes as well during that entire conferences in that, correct?
Jill: (04:49)
They, I guess so. Yes, I will. They said I was a keynote, I'm like, I have to speak twice, which was so much fun. And yeah, it was a great time of connection.
Frank: (04:58)
And so, uh, if you guys are actually also interested, Jill does in fact have a cookbook out. Uh, it is the Prairie homestead cookbook and it has simple recipes for heritage cooking in any kitchen. And I promise guys, we will talk about heritage cooking, uh, because I really, uh, this is near and dear to both mine and my wife's heart as well. And we just love seeing that Jill has stepped into her own to teach people how to really get back into the kitchen and create the simplest of communities, which is family. And we really need to be able to understand that, um, you know, it's all about just not only nourishing the body with great food, but we really nourished each other's souls as well when we actually were all hanging out in the kitchen as a family together. And so we will absolutely dive into that. So Joe, keep me honest about that. Let's not forget about making sure that we covered that. Okay.
Jill: (05:49)
Yes, for sure. You got it.
Frank: (05:51)
So I wanted to kinda like give everybody, like, you know, an to find out who you are in, where did you come from. And so, um, you know, I mean, I know, but for the purpose of this podcast, I really want the listeners done now, uh, you know, where did the, how did the transformation happen? What were the large steps that happen, say from childhood and beyond that have gotten you to this point now where you're at. So can you tell me a little bit about like your childhood, how did you grow up and, and really that sort of thing. And we'll just kinda like let this conversation evolve from there.
Jill: (06:27)
Yeah, absolutely. So a lot of people are interested to know that I was not raised on a farm or a ranch or even in a rural area. Uh, I was raised in a neighborhood, in your typical kind of nineties neighborhood with the split-level manufactured homes. Um, and very much just a typical childhood. Um, my parents weren't particularly, um, you know, they weren't farm motivated. My dad liked cowboy culture, but we didn't live cowboy culture and they were cool living there. Um, the problem was that I was a weirdo, so I've been kind of a freak of nature since day one. And from a very young age, I was very unhappy with my living situation, which I still don't fully know where that desire came from, but I was literally born with it. So when all of my peers and neighborhood friends were just cools, cucumbers live in the neighborhood doing the thing, I felt like a piece of me was missing.
Jill: (07:35)
And I was obsessed with figuring out how to get to the country. And I did everything from trying to talk my parents into buying a different house. I would look at real estate catalogs when I was just little. Um, horses were a really big part of my passion. So I would beg for horse and try to find any excuse in the world to be around horses. And so there was this tension in me very early on, um, of wanting something different. Right. And even to the point, as I got older into high school, I finally did get a horse. And so I was able to dabble in this world of a little bit of agriculture, a little bit of a quest Rian, uh, activities, even though we were still living in the same location where we were just boarding the horse, but that was in the world sort of that I wanted to be in. But I had this element of feeling like I wasn't one of them officially or I was a little bit of a fake because I was living in town, I grew up in town for all intents and purposes was a city kid. So it left this big a desire in me that I was trying to figure out how to fulfill.
Frank: (08:48)
I totally understand that and we get that as well because like, it's the same thing. Like, you know, first of guys, if you can hear me, I don't sound like I'm from the country, right? Like I sound like I'm seriously from like South central, New Jersey. All right. And so, um, I get it and I understand that like you just had this like streak inside of you and it's, uh, it's just something that you've now literally ran with, right? Like how long have horses and that's spirit of agriculture has, how long has it been in you now, since then? Like how does, how has the teenage years and everything like that for you?
Jill: (09:23)
Yeah, so I was thankfully able to be in four H and I found some four H leaders who took me under their wing and help develop those, those pieces of me that wanted out so badly. Um, and that was a relief. So I, I got a little bit of that world. And then when the big catalysts came when I was 18, you know, everyone's like, what are you going to do with your life? Are you going to go to college? What are you going to do? And forever, I just couldn't figure out what I wanted to do because everything that was in front of me just looked so boring. Like you'd be like, Oh, well get this degree. You go. And we went to, like, my mom took me to the college like career day and I'm like, try this or this. And I'm like, no, I don't want to do any of it.
Jill: (10:03)
Um, and so finally, kind of at the last minute, I found an equine school, it was a little community college that taught, uh, equine science and it was in Wyoming. So I decided that was like the first thing that made me light up. So I decided I was going to go to this college and get a degree in equine studies and that's what brought me to Wyoming. And that started that path of being able to be a little bit [inaudible] but more in this agricultural world. Um, I'm still learning and I still was a city kid and I still embarrassed myself a lot, but I felt like I had a little bit more of an identity with them.
Frank: (10:41)
Okay. And so like that's, so through the four H experience and being able to kind of like start really working in equestrian concepts, what types of things did you do? Cause I'm assuming based on what you've been telling me, that I guess you started working with horses first. Is that correct?
Jill: (10:59)
He did, yes.
Frank: (10:59)
Okay. And then what, so how did you kind of like really start working with horses? Was it about that same time when you were about 18 years of age?
Jill: (11:08)
Yeah, so I had gotten a horse when I was 14. Um, but we boarded it elsewhere, couldn't keep it at my house cause we lived in and so, and he was an old, old horse and he had a big old sway back and he was not a super fancy by any means. But I wrote him and wrote him and wrote them and got to be where I could handle myself around a horse. And then, um, when I got to college, that gave me some more opportunity to be around knowledgeable people and to learn. And then from college I was able to go work and get some internships with different horse trainers and different ranches. And that's where I started to actually have some skills developed. So it was less like I was less of a liability for the people who are helping me and more of an asset. And so that kind of gave me some props in the horse industry and I was able to build on that from there.
Frank: (11:55)
Oh, gotcha. Okay. All right. Very good. And so talk to me then about like what happened, like, you know, after your teenage years, how did you continue to sort of develop this love and develop this desire to move into agriculture? The way you, the way you have
Jill: (12:09)
[inaudible]. So, you know, when I was younger, like I mentioned, I always wanted this rural life. I would even go to the point of like I would push a wheelbarrow around our yard just pretending I was cleaning a barn out cause I was just wanted it so badly. And so I had my horses and I had actually met Christian, my husband by then and we were newlyweds and we were shopping for our first home. Um, and we knew that we needed land or we wanted lands because we wanted to live in the country. That was like non-negotiable. No matter how much it costs or how inconvenient it might have been, we knew it had to be a rural property for our first home. And at that point I just thought I wanted that cause I had horses. I'm like, I just need horse property. And so we started shopping and we found this little rundown property 40 miles from town, 67 acres.
Jill: (13:01)
It was a disaster. You know, the house was very much neglected and the fences were falling down and everything was a mess, but it was within our price range. So we started taking the steps to purchase this home. And it was this weird, I still can't fully describe, um, this transformation or this inspiration that came upon me. I mean, it was like literally something supernatural because I went into this thinking horse property and I came out, you know, weeks later, like with this vision of homesteading. And it started with, I'm like, how can I make this property we're buying, um, pay for itself? Or how can I make it profitable? And maybe not even just financially profitable, but how can I make it productive? Maybe that's the better word, productive. And it was like that thought, that inspiration open. Literally the doors were thrown open for this idea of homesteading even though I didn't know it was called home setting back then. I just started to look at books about composting and goats and gardening and I was like, this whole new world was in front of me for the first time.
Frank: (14:04)
That, okay, so that is, so then what type of an influence then did Christian probably have on you as this sort of like just you guys came together and it was like the perfect storm in terms of, you know, he had RA kind of maybe come from that sort of a background and then met you and you guys wanted to make this happen together.
Jill: (14:23)
Well, interestingly enough, he was also raised in town. He was, and he had also from a young age, maybe not quite as young as me. Um, I think in his interest started develop in high school, junior high. Uh, he wanted to be a part of agriculture. So even on that, our very first date we were talking about things we liked and goals we had and both of us said we wanted some 0.2 on a ranch or to own a lot of acreage and to own cattle. So we both had a mirrored childhood experience even though we were very far apart. We're 1200 miles apart growing up. Um, we both wanted that. So, you know, we were two city kids who had this new property, but thankfully I had enough experience. I had been a vet tech, I had been working on these ranches, so I knew enough about cattle and horses to kind of give us a leg up. And he had been working construction, so he knew how to build things, you know, how to build fence. Um, so we did have a little bit of skillset as we came into this home study world.
Frank: (15:24)
Wow. And it's amazing that, you know, Jill's Joseph Christian's story, um, is it's so inspiring to know that like, because of her in trepidation, like just being completely transparent and when you go to her website and you go look at her blog and you see the transformation over the last five plus years, uh, that the blog has definitely been around is that it's like, it's so incredible guys that like everybody can do this. It really just begins with that first step. You know, it requires just what Joe has been describing. It's requires that love and that desire of animals and wanting to have a lifestyle that is moving away from the, the like there is such an urbanization going on as I guess what I'm trying to say is like people are moving more towards cities that it's really interesting to see individuals now taking that step and they're a lot more scene in like social media space and online space that they're actually taking that step away from the city there. It's these people that are going against the stream, if you will. And so, um, it's just so inspiring Joe, that you have just like, you know, allowed us to peer into your life and to see, you know, both the pitfalls as well as the triumphs, you know. So tell me about like how I'm gonna I'm gonna put you on the, on the um, I'm gonna put you right here on the spot. I want you to tell me what is one of your worst homesteading fails ever?
Jill: (16:55)
Oh man, that's an easy one. Actually. I've had lots but the one that always comes to mind first is when I poisoned my garden. So I had been doing this mulch method. I thought I was so smart and it was actually working for several years. I would deep mulch the garden with a whole bunch of hay and everyone told me that hay was going to make my garden a take field with the seeds, but it actually didn't. It was a very deep layer. It worked like magic had all these worms and the soil was super happy and everything was going well until one year. I unknowingly had used some hay that had been sprayed with an herbicide. So that next spring I'm like, nothing is growing like it should, what is going on? And my tomatoes, they were the telltale signs, they will, their leaves were this weird like stick twisted. And it wasn't like they were drying, it wasn't like they had bugs. They were just this bizarre like mangled mess. So I started doing some research and I realized what I had done. Um, it's a pretty potent herbicide. It's very common to be used in hay productions. And so I had to figure out how to navigate that little mess. So that was definitely one of my biggest fails thus far.
Frank: (18:12)
Yeah. But it like, it won't, it won't, it's one of those things that it's like the lessons that are learned, right? Or the ones that you never forget and you tried to help individuals understand those wonderful things as well. Right. So it's really nice to have these communities that we can share these sorts of things. And so to say that like myself and Jackie have not had any homesteading fails, then we would be not telling you the truth whatsoever. Um, we definitely have had our fair share of them. Um, and so let's dive and thank you by the way, for sharing all of that. I mean like there was even things that I thought that, you know, just being your friend that I knew about you guys and I really appreciate that, that introspect and to be able to understand where you guys are coming from. So city folks turn farmer.
Jill: (18:57)
Yes. And I, I really want people to know, cause I mean, something I struggled with for a long time was feeling like I didn't belong in the agricultural world. Cause it can be a little clicky sometimes. And I sometimes I hesitate to say that, but it's true. And especially people who were born into it who have a family legacy of a farm or a ranch, you know, that's fantastic. But not all of us had that. And sometimes when we don't have that, it almost feels sometimes impossible to be a part of that world. But that's what I love about homesteading is we can create that and be a part of it legitimately. And it's magical. So if you are a city person and you're listening, you can be a part of that world and you have a place.
Frank: (19:36)
And I in remember YouTube is your friend. I mean it was ridiculous that I still remember one of the funniest things to check in. I first did when we were like, Hey, let's just get goats and start a homestead. And the way like move to Western North Carolina and started this thing too was I remember holding my iPhone wa like of, of, of a YouTube video. Um, somebody milking ago. That way Jackie can figure out how to milk a cow. We literally had a, we had a girl in milk, which means that they are capable of being milked. And so I'm sitting there holding it as she's trying to figure out what are the hand motions to actually milk the Scouts. So trust me guys, be empowered with like stories that Jill is explaining because anybody, if they have the mindset and they have the desire, you
Frank: (20:19)
really can't do it. So you definitely can. Um, so thank you so much for sharing all of that gel. That's, that's awesome. Hey, so I'm going to go ahead and cut it right there. Uh, we are definitely going to bring you part two coming next week on our conversation with Jill winger of the Prairie homestead of the Jew have enjoyed what you have heard so far. There are some tips and some tricks that I want you to write down so you can absolutely apply things as soon as possible because it's really important about all these choices that we can make. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey, what's going on everybody?
Frank: (00:49)
Frank here. Good morning, happy Monday. I hope that you are doing well. Um, it is a gloomy here, but a good gloomy because fall has started. So I see the sun creeping up and uh, it's getting ready to give us a nice beautiful day. All the leaves are changing. And I dunno, I'm just, I love fall. I mean, I guess I'm such a fall door that I'm actually drinking pumpkin spice coffee right now. So, um, that's just how it is by the way. If you checked on my cup, I feel that way every single day. Uh, it is completely true. Um, she is amazing. I love my wife a ton and, uh, I hope you got a significant other in your life as well that you can just love on and cherish. And if you don't, then you know what, you always got me. You can always do the same thing with me. But anyway, um, it's Monday and I figured that that we would start off with a conversation about KIDO, uh, over the weekend I had an epiphany about, you know, different folks thinking about a diet plan to follow and then sort of like not knowing exactly what to do. And so, uh, you know, nutrition, I say it before and I'll say it again. Nutrition accounts for like 60% of, uh, effectively
Speaker 2: (02:04)
health. [inaudible] excuse me. And so I am, uh, just wanting to like educate about that in particular because it really is that important is that, you know, if we're, we're wanting to get started on a healthy lifestyle, then it really is a matter of like, what, what are we eating? And then we'll talk a little bit more about that too because not only is it, what are we doing, but now it's also like we're finding out, it's like when we're eating is also pretty important as well. So let's just dive right in. Where we're going to talk about today is we're going to talk about the ketogenic diet. For those of you guys that are attending, uh, via podcast, welcome. I am Frank. I am a certified physician assistant, but I am not your doctor and I am not your PA. I'm just on here because I have practiced a lot of these things in my own life.
Speaker 2: (02:51)
And, uh, I've worked with other folks in colleagues and stuff like that. And honestly, this stuff works and it's not crazy and it's not medicine. Um, because food is really, your friend absolutely can heal you. Uh, and we talk about different things like sleep on this podcast we'll talk about removing toxins and, uh, you know, we'll talk about getting, uh, adequate levels of stress and anxiety controlled in your life. And then of course, we'll also talk about movement. I actually just got finished with a workout, so that's why I'm still kinda wearing my gym t-shirt. I know you can't say that in a podcast, but regardless, welcome. This is unconventional wellness radio and we're just going to bring you all things healthy but with legitimate science. [inaudible] excuse me. Actually backing this up because we wanna make sure that you are making the, uh, best informed decisions that you possibly can make.
Speaker 2: (03:42)
And so that's what you're here for. Uh, for those of you that are watching this on Facebook live, if you haven't caught me alive, then, uh, it's also nice to see you if you are on the live. If not, I'm going to wave to you and say hi on the replay, uh, cause we'll make this available. Of course, uh, starting probably today, tomorrow, uh, that you can go back and rewatch it because there's always really good stuff and content. So anyway, we're here to talk about the ketogenic diet, right? So the ketogenic diet has actually been around for like a hundred years. Um, this is not something new. Back in the 1920, surprisingly enough, researchers started using the ketogenic diet as a way of hopefully helping out with people who have epilepsy. Um, so, excuse me, it's been around for awhile and now it's just sort of like made this resurgence because, uh, you know, we go through different phases if you will, of diets.
Speaker 2: (04:30)
Uh, something that popped up in mind when I was a kid was the, uh, the low fat diet. And so the low fat diets essentially just meant since we're going to take fat out of food, uh, now we have to replace it with sugar. And so at that point we started developing new and innovative ways to create even more sugary, sugary foods. And, uh, and eventually now we're at the point where we have an ultra processed type of sugar, which is not known as high fructose corn syrup, which has like no nutritive value but does a really good job of putting a bunch of excess weight on people. And so, um, the tradition has caused us to start looking really, really hard at carbohydrates. And although I don't have any type of particular diet plan that I recommend more so I lean toward, you know, a paleo lifestyle.
Speaker 2: (05:20)
Um, but really what I lean toward is clean eating. And that's something that I think that a lot of people don't do is they don't eat clean. And, uh, eating clean alone can really, really do some benefit for you. Um, you know, one of the older diets, the Mediterranean diet is all about clean food and, uh, you know, portion control. And what I really love about the Mediterranean diet is that it even talks about this social aspect of, uh, food, uh, you know, getting together with loved ones and stuff like that and having a meal. But regardless is that we have really dove into the types of carbohydrates in the type of clean that is necessary for something like a paleo diet or an autoimmune protocol or what we're going to talk about ketogenic diets. So let's just dive right in. So like there's a bunch of different ways.
Speaker 2: (06:06)
This is sort of like Quito for newbies. This is like for somebody who like has heard about the keto diet, it's probably not uncommon that you haven't heard about the ketogenic diet. It's growing in popularity and um, it is very awesome, uh, as a diet in terms of its capability of handling weight loss. There has been, research has now shown that it can help out with type two diabetes, which makes perfect sense because diabetes is caused from, you know, all these processed foods that cause inflammation and a beta cell burnout is one of the other reasons why beta cells are in your pancreas and they're responsible for putting insulin into your body. And so obviously if we were able to exotic honestly, meaning like, you know, consume foods that are lower in carbohydrates than that's going to naturally bring our sugar levels down in our blood.
Speaker 2: (06:53)
So that's one thing is that it helps with, uh, the protection of the creation of insulin in your body. But then the other thing is that people who consume lots of sugar over the course of time, you know, they have a problem with receptivity to the insulin that's actually created. And so we started calling that like a decreased insulin sensitivity in the periphery, um, that has all the fancy ways of saying that the insulin is not only being produced, but then the insulin that is being produced is not being reacted to by the body. And so the sugar is not being taken up into the cells. And so therefore we're experiencing higher sugar levels, which is referred to as hyperglycemia or we just eventually call that if we get diagnosed with a condition, it's called diabetes. And so ketogenic diets have been, have been very helpful for that as well.
Speaker 2: (07:36)
There's also some loose studies and empirical data coming back about, um, I'm going to talk about it, the big sea of cancer, that the ketogenic diets are actually, uh, being really widely used in order to be able to help out with the support of individuals who are suffering from cancers. And so anyway, if you're thinking about getting started and then, you know, you really want to reap the benefit of a weight loss that people are reporting and experiencing on the ketogenic diet that you're not alone. Um, and as a very popular diet now it is actually, I'm a part of a couple of different ketogenic groups and one of which has 1.5 million members on Facebook, which is pretty unbelievable. And that's at just one group. I mean like, you know, the probably expand that to a search of many different groups and you probably see that there's millions of people are interested in the ketogenic diet.
Speaker 2: (08:25)
And so this epiphany that I had was to come on here and let's talk about it, right? Because, uh, you know, having a bunch of really great information without any purpose or action is really just a dream. And so I wanted to help, you know, if you, if you are thinking about doing a ketogenic diet, I don't want his help. Start making that dream a reality. Kind of give my personal testimony about it and the science that I know of behind it. And then I'll talk about the different ways that you can follow the ketogenic diet. So before I say anything, start with eating clean foods. Okay. The reason why is because I follow what is referred to as a clean version or a traditional version of the ketogenic diet. The reason why is because, and I'll get to in a second, is that like, I really wanted to have cardiovascular benefit.
Speaker 2: (09:10)
And so I really wanted to avoid processed fats and, uh, you know, protein that may not necessarily be clean styles of protein. So I didn't want to do, uh, additional, uh, risk of having these types of foods that are considered dirty. Uh, which is a lot of people will follow this dirty ketogenic diet. And, uh, and that Dell experienced the weight loss. But the problem is is that they may experience further complications of these different um, non healthy versions of food that could cause a lot of cardiovascular problems later. So let's get down and dirty like so what could, what, what is the ketogenic diet? Well, the ketogenic diet is what I refer to as an ultra low calorie diet, uh, in terms of cow, in terms of carbohydrates. So we got to back up for a second and talk macro nutrients. We'll talk about that for the next couple of seconds here is that you have three different major sources of macro nutrients.
Speaker 2: (10:00)
You have carbohydrate, macro nutrient, you have protein macronutrients, and then you also have fat macronutrients. And each one of those corresponds to four kilo calories. Uh, when they're consumed like one gram equals four kilocalories of both carbohydrates as well as protein. And then you have nine kilo calories or our fat. And so you keep the carbohydrate load down. A lot of folks who are falling in ketogenic diet, usually you're shooting for anywhere between 20 to 50 grams of total carbohydrates in a day. And before when I first started the ketogenic diet, I was like, man, that's a low amount because like, you know, a slice of pizza, gosh, you could probably blow through the eight grams of carbohydrate and probably a standard slice of pizza. And so I was like, all right, this is kinda crazy. But now once you finally started kind of, you know, tracking yourself, which is what I follow, which is more of a traditional version of Quito, excuse me, I started realizing like, it's really kind of pretty easy to stay a, you know, say 20 or 30 grams of carbohydrate throughout the day.
Speaker 2: (10:57)
So, um, once you start recognizing these foods that you are consuming, and so 20 to 50 grams is what most people kind of start off with. It is a, a little bit more of a stricter version of paleo because paleo is usually around 200 grams in a day, um, with different food restrictions and things like that. And so, uh, we started this ketogenic diet, uh, after we started doing the paleolithic diet, um, you know, a couple of years later and we started noticing like a, a good change in weight. I mean, our weight was definitely moving in the correct direction and a tracking was a little bit more cumbersome and annoying, but we, we really focused in bear down on it. And you know, now we're experiencing, uh, a ketogenic diet in the sense of it's pretty easy to track for us. Uh, you know, one of the ways that you get a look at the ketogenic diet is what is it doing inside of the body, right?
Speaker 2: (11:45)
So now we know the amount of carbohydrates that you're supposed to target for, uh, below that and then we'll kind of get into the foods. But how do you measure ketosis is a condition in which your body actually creates ketones. Um, it is on the same pathway as say like gluco neogenesis, which is another pathway that your body can create a new sugar, uh, based on different processes that can happen inside of the body. But a couple of different ways to track are either by blood or you can do a quick urine dipstick that is uh, you can purchase these in stores, go to a health food store or something like that and get these kids' agenda. Or you can even order them on Amazon and you get these KIDOgenic sticks that you will urinate into a small cup, kind of dip your stick in there.
Speaker 2: (12:26)
Like you would if you were testing for sugar in the urine as well. And then it'll give you a scale of like how many ketones are being detected in your ear. And now it's not nearly as good as the blood blood is of course is the gold standard. But, um, you know, if you're in ketosis, then what's your body is doing is your body is essentially going from being a sugar burner to a fat burner. Cause those key tones are created through the process of breaking down fat. And so, uh, you know, your brain can run on those and your body tissues can run on ketones. Uh, and uh, and, and that's how ketosis works inside the binding. And that's how you can measure it. So, um, that's the goal in the ketogenic diet is to decrease your carpark, hydrate load over the course of days in order to get yourself into a state of ketogenesis.
Speaker 2: (13:09)
Uh, and so you want to track it because you don't want to just assume because you could be getting some hidden carbohydrates somewhere that could be essentially not allowing your body to be in ketogenesis. And so therefore, since your body's not really, you know, creating ketones, you must still be burning sugar of some sort somewhere. And I say sugar. When I say sugar, I'm talking about overall carbohydrates anywhere. Okay. And so what are the three different things, three different ways that people kind of follow ketosis? Well, or the ketogenic diet. The first is traditional. I've already kind of talked about that. That's where you track your macronutrients, you eat clean foods and a, you know, you really kind of try to put the science behind it. Um, it's a little bit more strict, um, in terms of the start out with the discipline. But like I said, if you're willing to do that, then it actually is pretty solid.
Speaker 2: (13:56)
Um, you got what is called lazy. I'm lazy, uh, Quito, which is, um, you know, really you kind of don't track, um, but you have a pretty good idea of sort of what to eat and stuff like that. And uh, it's a little bit of a cleaner version. They got dirty Quito, which is like people are just saying like, I'm gonna cut out carbohydrates. And so these are the people though that will go to like a fast food joint and order a burger and then just not eat the bond. Right. And not eat the fries. Instead they'll get like a side salad or something like that. They drink diet soda sometimes and you know, it's sort of like a D that's, that's the dirty version. And so I would offer to you that, you know, we're not going to follow dirty ever and I would recommend that you don't follow dirty either because if you're like me and you're in your forties, um, there are going to be ramifications of eating foods that are processed.
Speaker 2: (14:43)
And it could be pro inflammatory inside the body. Um, I have a history of my family having cardiovascular disease. And so therefore I do not wanna eat processed fats. I do not wanna eat processed proteins and I don't want that stuff inside my diet. And so therefore, what I do is I follow a traditional, which is I put plants forward, I eat lots and lots of plants get good healthy fats. We'll talk about that in a second. And lighter sources of protein, you know, like a moderate level of protein. Some people who follow dirty Kito would just crush a meat and cheese, right? Cause they're, excuse me, they're really easy to come along to and you know, they, they fill you up and give you that sense of satiety and stuff like that. And so some people that follow the dirty version is, uh, you know, um, it's a little easier.
Speaker 2: (15:27)
And, but the problem is though, is that, you know, you're eating a lot of meat and cheese. And we, we realized with folks who followed the Atkins diet, uh, years ago in which the Atkins diet is still around, it's now referred to as like a modified Atkins and everything like that. But people that are literally just crushing meat and cheese. And the problem is, is that it was very pro inflammatory in the body, um, having issues with, uh, gastrointestinal, the concern and stuff like that. And so that's why I recommend that if you are going to consider a ketogenic diet, what we like to follow is we like to follow when that's plant forward. So we eat lots of healthy fats, lots of vegetables. We do have increased fiber. That's fantastic for somebody following kids, young guy, because you hear that that gives you that feeling of fullness and satiety, which is really nice because, um, you know, you don't want to feel hungry all the time because those carbohydrates may not give you, that may not be giving you that feeling of satiety.
Speaker 2: (16:15)
And since you're removing those, doing ketosis or doing ketogenic diet, so therefore you're going to have something in that fiber does a wonderful job, especially a, you know, both sources of dietary fiber being both soluble and insoluble. They make it all the way down into the lower aspects of your intestines and keep you feeling full. And so therefore you're not like hungry all the time. So you know, people who do follow dirty ketogenic diets may actually be hungry because their body can quickly process, you know, those, uh, different things inside their body. And so therefore they might feel hungry or more often. So their calories are going up. But anyway, that's, that's enough about all that. But, um, so that's additional, that's dirty, traditional, lazy. And so now if you're thinking about getting started on a ketogenic diet, well then what should I actually eat?
Speaker 2: (17:00)
Right? And so I wanted to give you like 10 to say, 12 different types of foods that are really fantastic for eating on the ketogenic diet. And then we'll talk about something called the Quito flu really quick, just because I think that that would be important, especially if you're considering ketogenic diet. Um, and then of course, you know all by all means make sure that you follow with a healthcare provider. If you are considering this because you want to, I probably should've started off with this, but I'm going to say it now, but you know, if you are thinking about doing that and you've never done a particular diet before and, uh, you know, you want to try something new, well then make sure that you talk to a healthcare provider. But anyway, um, let's talk about 10 different foods that you can start, right?
Speaker 2: (17:42)
So first day, like I said, since we're going to talk about plants, we want to play it forward is that you need to eat, um, low carbohydrate containing vegetables, number one. Um, so watch out for your starchy vegetables. So those are things like, you know, potatoes, sweet potatoes, things of that nature. You want to avoid those, right? And you definitely don't want to eat a lot of fruit as well because um, proves have natural sugars in them and those could actually kick you out of ketosis if that's where you're trying to go or not allow you to get into ketosis. And so the low carb vegetables are super important because they have a lot of your micro and uh, uh, macro nutrients, right? So these are all the vegetable artists or these are all the different important um, nutrients like calcium and potassium and vitaminK and all those other kind of stuff in order and also minerals as well that will keep the processes flowing well.
Speaker 2: (18:33)
Cause we're going to talk about the keto flu here in a few. But if your body doesn't have those sorts of things, then that's what it'll have. You had those symptoms of when you start coming down on for carbohydrates, you'll start having these symptoms that will be kind of in explanatory, but we refer to that as people refer to that as the keto flu is that you don't really feel that great, but it's because your body's not getting those macro and micro nutrients, you know, and those minerals that you need. Um, you know, you want to watch or you definitely want to eat plants. Like I said before, the contain lots of fiber. Um, you know, so definitely eat something like that. So think like, you know, like green leafy vegetables, super important. Cruciferous vegetables are very important. Like those are your kales, your broccolis, your cauliflowers, you know, stuff like that.
Speaker 2: (19:16)
Uh, you can actually use a lot of, you can get creative. A lot of people will make a zucchini or, um, cucumber or whatever. You could turn those things into, um, noodles, like we call those noodles, but essentially they can replace a plate full of spaghetti because there's a thing called a spiralizer, which will allow you to create this sort of like noodle looking, uh, vegetable [inaudible] excuse me. And then you can put like a marinara sauce on it and sure enough you're having a nice plant forward meal without having any carbohydrates. And so those are really, really great to start off with. That's the very first thing that you want to eat. The next thing that you want to eat when you're on the ketogenic diet is I love avocados. That's number two. Avocados are wonderful because they are there. If you are looking at like their total carbohydrates, they are higher.
Speaker 2: (20:07)
Um, they have almost 10 carbohydrates in them. But the cool thing is is that they have a lot of fiber. And so when you're looking at Jenny, Jenny's a good time to talk about this, you want to look at something called net carbs. Net carbs are total carbohydrates minus the fiber or what is considered a safe form of carbohydrate, which will get you a net carbohydrates. So for example, if we have a food that we're gonna eat, excuse me, and it has 10 grams of carbohydrates in it, but it has eight grams of tight dietary fiber. Then essentially what we're looking at is we're looking at to net carbs. So those are going to be the two carbs, two grams of carbohydrates that will count toward our 2250 for the day. If that sense. Um, you don't count the 10 you account the two because net carbs are going to be the things that will be considered like sugar in the body.
Speaker 2: (20:55)
And so therefore we want to keep low carbohydrates by Pope focusing on net carbs, not total carbs. Okay. Hopefully that makes sense. If you have any questions about that, by all means, I'll give you my email here at the end and you're welcome to talk to him about, talk to me about those sorts of things. Okay. Um, so the other thing is, is that avocados are super high in potassium and potassium is really wonderful to have, especially when you're starting off on the ketogenic diet in order to kind of like, hopefully help out with that ketogenic flu, if that makes sense. Okay. Um, avocados are full of really healthy, wonderful heart, healthy fats. Okay. Uh, they are really great at helping you feel full and they are fantastically great at, uh, helping move things along in the system. Um, when you're, when you're having a ketogenic diet.
Speaker 2: (21:42)
And that's the reason why we love to follow that. Okay. The next thing, number three of course is meat and poultry. Meat and poultry are like big, big things, right? We need to have high quality protein, right? And low carbohydrates. Well, you can't do much better than me. Um, and so the, the word of caution with me is that, well, let's talk about why meat is good, right? So first of all, no carbs. Secondly, definitely full of good B vitamins in meat. And, uh, you know, definitely plenty of potassium. And my knees are, excuse me, in zinc and selenium. OK. um, the thing about meat though, for those of you that want to have a vegetarian Quito, we could talk about that very briefly. Um, that won't be the purpose of this call or excuse me of this podcast today is that vegetarians and vegans have a little bit more of a difficult risk or excuse me, a difficult way of following cause yeah, you can eat lots of lots of vegetables, really good healthy fats and things like that from some of these, uh, veggie vegetable sources.
Speaker 2: (22:40)
Vegan a little bit more difficult cause you're more restrictive of course with animal products and cheese. Um, and so the good news is is that if you were to follow a ketogenic diet in which you were actually eating, um, protein, you are going to get B vitamins, which is something that, uh, folks who follow a vegetarian or vegan diets might in fact become deficient. And, and so, um, it can be done. You can follow a vegetarian or vegan version of Quito, um, does become more difficult. But I really want to caution against the possibility of not getting plenty of B vitamins when you're following that particular version of Keala Quito, which is a vegetarian or vegan version. But regardless, meat and poultry, high quality protein. And let's talk about high quality protein really quick, right? So high quality protein, I would recommend that you eat grass fed or not just free range but pasture raised animals.
Speaker 2: (23:28)
Okay? The reason why and then watch out for individuals that like to quote unquote grain finish grain finish their meat. The reason why is because it is meaning that that animal which has been designed to wonderfully be raised out on nothing but a diet of grass out there [inaudible] excuse me, on a pasture is now being fed grain because it increases their body weight. And the problem is though is that you are going to actually get that grain that is inside that animal in some dose. If you are going to eat an animal that has been grained, finished, so watch out for that as well. So a hundred percent grass fed is the way to go. Um, watch out for that terminology about being grass-finished as well. Okay. Because our, excuse me, grain finished as well because um, that's an old trick that farmers like to use to fatten them up really quick before they take them to the processing cause it gets them more and that's a more total meat if you will off the animal than if they were just strictly grass fed.
Speaker 2: (24:23)
Uh, but go with grass fed because that's definitely going to be the most healthy way that you can do it. We love eggs. Eggs are fantastic. Um, they are super low in carbohydrates, lots of good protein. And uh, what's really great is that like eggs kinda stick around the body. They kind of give you that feeling of satiety and um, you know, they give you that feeling of a fullness and things like that. So they really, really do a good job with that. The other thing is, is that it's important to get the entire protein out of the egg, the cheat, the whole thing. I know that there has been a controversy, if you will, about cholesterol consumption with egg yolks and all that kind of stuff. They are high in cholesterol, but when you eat it, you're actually getting the entire, uh, protein [inaudible], excuse me, uh, out of the ag if you're going to eat it.
Speaker 2: (25:07)
So eat eggs. Okay. Those are definitely, um, really awesome to have. The good news is that also has lots of really great antioxidants in it. Um, you know, the yellow is attributed to a Z, a, uh, xanthan or any type of Zahn thins which are really great for eye health as well. So really, really good. Um, to have some people actually even start a kenogenic diet with a what is called an egg fast, which I'm not recommending at, uh, both for before. I mean, cause you're taking from like whatever you've been eating to like all of a sudden now you're just eating eggs and so you might have a lot of symptoms and a lot of complications related to that. But some people start the ketogenic diet with the make fast just to put themselves into, um, ketosis quicker. But that's just a side comment.
Speaker 2: (25:49)
Needless to say though, is that eggs are important to look at. You know, just like we talked about grass fed, it's also important to make sure that you look at, uh, you know, how are these eggs being produced? And so you want to make sure that they are, excuse me, pasture raised is the word that you're looking for. Um, both, um, cage-free and, and even, you know, free range. I don't necessarily care for those, but pasture raised and then you want to at least have a non-GMO egg, which means that they may have been given some grain to help them with their egg production, um, that it's at least non GMO. But of course organic would be best. Uh, you know, but really what's really great is a lot of farmers will actually follow organic practices. And so if you go to any of those farmer's markets and things like that, they might in fact actually have, um, farm fresh eggs that are pasture raised, are raised with organic practices and they just don't have the label on it.
Speaker 2: (26:41)
But there's some of the best eggs that you can have. And with those pasture-raised girls going around and eating up all those bugs and all those other yummy things that they get out of a pasture, you know, these, these like yolks that we create on our farm or like bright orange, you know, like it's kind of interesting to take a store bought egg and put it against one of our eggs and you just see the color difference. It's pretty incredible. Um, so definitely make sure that you get like a pasture raised, preferably organic or at least, you know, if you want to do the research and talk at your farmer's markets, talk to your farmers and find out if they're following organic practices on their farm. And those are usually going to be your best things. So that was like number five, right? Number six will be, uh, uh, having lots and lots of good, healthy fat.
Speaker 2: (27:19)
All right. And that'll be talking about coconut oil, avocado oil, olive oil. These are all really good healthy fats, right? You want to avoid canola oils or vegetable oils or anything like that because those usually are higher in trans fats. And so you want to, um, make sure that you have really, really good healthy fats. Coconut oil is full of something called a medium change triglycerides. And what those are is that your body doesn't have to like process those at all, right? Your body can kind of absorb those and create those directly into ketones as a rapid source of energy. So that's really nice is that like you can actually bolster your ketone levels, if you will, by having medium train medium chain triglycerides out of a coconut oil cooking on it was really great to cook with too. Um, you know, it's really, really wonderful to be able to cook with as well.
Speaker 2: (28:08)
It's, um, great to saute things in and all that kind of stuff, so it'll help increase the flavor of vegetables that you could eat if you actually cook with coconut oil as well. But, um, you know, coconut oil, olive oil, uh, even avocado oil are very, very, very good because these all have a really good mono on mono saturated fats and barely any, if none, trans fats, which trans fats in the body can actually equal inflammation. So it's really important to use those types of things. And the next thing we'll talk about things. Number seven is going to be nuts and seeds. All right? The lagoons lagoons can actually have hidden carbohydrates in them, but nuts and seeds are going to be low in carbohydrates. Okay. Once again, look at net carbs just because a bag of nuts, um, has say 10 carbs in one serving, make sure you pay attention to they have fiber because that fiber will decrease the amount of carbohydrates that you would look at in terms of net carbs.
Speaker 2: (29:07)
Okay. So like just for example, you know, like a walnuts have like I think like four or five total carbs, but when you actually subtract the fiber, which is about one to two grams of fiber inside of those four or five, it ends up being like two net grams. So, or to net carb gram or two grams of net carbs every go, um, you know, so you gotta, you gotta look at stuff like that, like, uh, always subtract the amount of fiber inside of those nuts and seeds from the total, um, from the total amount of carbohydrates. The next thing that we love to eat as butter and we love butter and cream. I mean, matter of fact, my coffee has cream in it now we use whole fat cream so it's not, um, or we use butter in our coffee, which is a whole Bulletproof coffee, which is what Dave Asprey of the Bulletproof diet, excuse me, developed, but essentially adding cream inside of your, or excuse me, butter or cream instead of your coffee.
Speaker 2: (30:03)
It has to be full fat. So like this half and half stuff, this 1% stuff or whatever. Some of those are chalked full of sugar in order to improve the flavor because they've taken the fat away from it. And so butter and cream are really, really good things to use to not only cook with, but add to your coffee if you want to have something in your coffee. And they also of course increase your satiety as well. So use those sparingly. We don't destroy butter and cream on a ketogenic diet because of course, um, you know, we don't necessarily care for having lots and lots of fat because we are still trying to also kind of lose some weight, uh, by having the appropriate amount of butter and cream and our diet. Um, so if I need to, you know, have some source of fat, I'd rather eat an avocado, have a little bit of cream in an avocado later on in the day because then I'm gonna get that fiber benefit from the avocado as well.
Speaker 2: (30:53)
Okay. The next one I think is number eight is going to be talking about cheese. Cheese is really good. Um, you know, it's, it's good for you. Uh, be careful about the types of cheese that you eat. What I like to eat is I actually love to eat cheese that is considered a hard cheese. I love hard cheeses, like a ACIAR logo or Parmesan or a pecorino Romano. I love those types of cheese because not only do I think they taste fabulous but they're extremely useful and uh, very, um, the word I'm looking for is like versatile. That's the word I'm looking for. Um, so I can increase, I can use them in different diets or excuse me, different meals that I prepare. So like if I want to add him to eggs, great addition of Parmesan cheese dough. If I want to have a vegetable, I can add Parmesan cheese to it and improve the flavor.
Speaker 2: (31:43)
It's a natural kind of salty flavor too when you eat those types of, um, when you eat those types of cheeses now you can't be irregular cheese as well. Watch out for processed cheese, don't be eating the cheese that you know, has had so much stuff added to it that it looks like a Salvador Dali painting when you melt it and it stays all nice and pretty and in shape. The thing is that it melts, eat legit cheese from, you know, grass fed cows don't have ones that have cheese that is made with milk that has, um, growth hormone in it or any type of antibiotics, you know, do your research and make sure that you are eating really, really good sources of cheese. Cheese is good and fat and so therefore that that will help with, uh, feeling Satia satiated and feeling full as well.
Speaker 2: (32:27)
Okay. Um, number nine is going to be eating, excuse me, berries, right? Um, you don't want to necessarily eat lots of fruits, but, uh, you know, like I said before, but berries are really great because, um, there are not too high in net carbs, but they're really great as having a good sources of fiber in them. Okay. And they're definitely definitely full of antioxidants that help with like heart health and, um, free radical damage and all that kind of stuff. And, uh, they're just really great. Like, you know, just use them sparingly, but you could totally appreciate them. The last thing I want to talk about, number 10 is, uh, either, well, let's put them together. We'll put coffee and tea. Um, coffee is very good. Tea is very good. That low carbohydrates. Um, what's really nice is there's caffeine in it, which I don't want to go heavy in the caffeine, but caffeine and moderation has actually been shown now to be great for uh, improving your mood and improving your sense of energy and of course all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 2: (33:27)
Caffeine is also a pretty decent to help with lowering weight overall. It's not necessarily that caffeine is like, you know, you start drinking caffeine and all of a sudden you're gonna drop 20 pounds in a week. But um, it actually is really, really nice. Okay. To add caffeine, and I'm going to give you one bonus is a seafood. Seafood is something that we try to use very much in our kenogenic diet. The reason why is because, um, it's fantastic in B vitamins, selenium potassium, right? Just like meat and poultry, but it's a lighter version of a protein and so it's really nice to be able to swap out like a piece of salmon, which is going to be high in Omega three fatty acids as well. Instead of having steak every single day. Right? And so it's a lighter version of a protein, still getting the wonderful benefits of protein with no carbs.
Speaker 2: (34:19)
Um, but it's really nice to have something that is very light in terms of its protein versus like eating pork or eating beef all the time. Okay. And then it's like, because of those, um, you know, Omega three fatty acids that are naturally occurring in lots and lots of different types of seafoods, they are of course going to be really, really good. But of course caution being for those that have, you know, uh, an issue with seafood or an iffy issue with, uh, uh, any type of fish. Of course, use those things sparingly or not at all if you're having major issues with seafood. So that's like

Frank: (00:37)

I, uh, I apologize. I was a little and out there for a while, but now I'm actually sipping on some tea and then having my bone broth. And it inspired me to actually come on here and talk to you about the benefits of bone broth because I tell you what, when you, um, when you come down with something, you know, you do feel like as if you need to, uh, eat a lot more soup. Plus it's the holidays and I know that a lot of people are probably thinking about just eating soup. You know, you've got your butter nuts, soups and uh, your really amazing chicken noodle soups and people are making chicken and dumplings and all those really good feel good, uh, comfort foods and stuff like that.
Frank: (01:37)
And so it's just really awesome that it is about that time. It's getting colder outside and now it's time to actually warm up with a nice hearty cup of soup. And so I wanted to come on here and talk to you about the 10 benefits of bone broth that I've experienced and to try to help you make the choice on putting, uh, putting a bone broth in your, in your diet, creating it as a staple of your weekly rations, if you will. And so we're going to talk about some bone broth on this podcast. Is Facebook live. Just want to say hello to everybody. I know it's been a little while since I've been able to talk to you. Um, quick bad plug here is that, uh, my program on conventional, this is available but it will only be available until I close it out tomorrow night for, uh, when we do my Facebook live.
Frank: (02:27)
So as soon as my Facebook live is over, I am taking down all the capability of being able to purchase the program for now because I want to focus my attention on those individuals who took the plunge with me and are joining me in their journey. And so I wanna focus on them now. Um, it's like I said, it's closing tomorrow. My Facebook live is at 8:00 PM Eastern standard time and as soon as I am done with that Facebook live, I will be actually closing out the ability to get in this round of unconventional wellness. And so if you're curious about what unconventional wellness is, um, I'm going to send down an email. I'll also post a quick a Facebook link here, but a video I did yesterday that explains where it came from and why it's here and how I believe that it can absolutely benefit you and create some really, really good health for you in 2019 and beyond.
Frank: (03:23)
But before we do that, I just wanted to do something awesome for everybody. If you are not a part of our Facebook group, please go become a part of our Facebook group or I should say our Facebook page. I put the link here on the comments and I'll make sure that I put it on the podcast. But the, uh, the page is now hit 400 people. I thought that's pretty sweet. And so, um, I'm crazy and I love doing giveaways and honestly I have not heard back from that person who left a recent comment on my podcast, which was a part of, uh, you know, letting people know about [inaudible], excuse me, the podcast and sharing it and all that kind of good stuff and leaving me a comment, well, I am still awaiting that person to contact me and in any way, if they don't contact me and say about it, okay, know [inaudible] uh, that if they don't contact me, that I'm going to reopen it back up.
Frank: (04:20)
And when I am giving out is I am giving out a free copy of my unconventional wellness program, you will be able to actually be, um, on there and we will put you in at my second tier, which is essentially a, you know, what, whether I'm going to give out my highest here. Um, the highest tier of our conventional wellness is the program. You'll have a access to it for lifetime access. Uh, we're also going to put on there the, uh, group. So you'll be a part of the VIP group. And then I'm going to schedule, or I'm going to have you schedule for the first 90 days up to four 30 minute consults with me on the phone. So I can actually talk to you about like what your wellness goals are, what your plans are, and really be able to actually hone this entire understanding of our conventional want us to make you completely personalized and good for you.
Frank: (05:16)
And so I'm going to give that away. I'm going to give you a chance, uh, to do it in say, the next 24 hours. Okay? So by the time that I close out my onco virtual wellness, what I want you to do is I want you to go and join my Facebook page and I want you to share this video. And when you share this video, that'll automatically enter you in being able to get a copy of my unconventional wellness highest tier program for free. The value on that as like, you know, I'd say like easily 3000 because, um, you know, you're going to be getting the program, which is easily two grand. And then you're going to get the, uh, VIP group, all of the Facebook lives that I'm going to do and all of the additional group coaching that I'll be doing inside of that group.
Frank: (06:04)
And then the personalized coaching sessions, that stuff all adds up to about another thousand dollars. And so, um, I want to give that to you guys for free. So it's a $3,000 package that I want to give to somebody for absolutely free. All you gotta do is like and share this video and, um, that's it. That's all I want you to do and I'll be happy to give that out for free. Uh, so anyway, get to get to that. So let's jump in though, and let's talk about these benefits of bone broth. Um, I wanted to, uh, really hammer these down and help you understand this might be a piece of a, something that you've been needing to look out for. [inaudible], excuse me, and I'll be able to actually really invest in your health with the, with the benefits of bone broth. And so let's go ahead and get started.
Frank: (06:51)
So the first thing is, is what is bone broth? We should probably start there. Well, it's just that it's, it's perfectly named. Now this is a little bit more so than just a stock or a, you know, some people will flavor, I mean I used to make um, beef dishes with putting beef bullion in my, uh, recipes and stuff like that along with my garlic and my onions and all that kind of stuff. They make a really rich sauce for like, you know, different beef dishes. I would do the same thing with chicken dishes and stuff like that, but abroad does actually a lot more robust than that. It's actually taking the bones of the animal and it's usually the bony is bone parts of the animal. So think like the carcass of it. Uh, the on a beef or excuse me on a cow, it would be like the oxtails or the shoulder pieces, um, you know, or the, the hips, you know, like really, uh, leg bones of course are, are very good.
Frank: (07:47)
The pony, it's up. It's all those bones that are going to have those like yummy bits of collagen and um, and even uh, you know, pieces of marrow and stuff like that. And so what you do is you put it inside of a big pot and you'll actually simmer it for at least 20 hours, preferably more than 20 hours, about 24 hours on super low heat. You put a bunch of different things in there. Um, you know, there's a bunch of bone broth recipes that you could follow and we'll talk about some of our tried and true better bone broth recipes that my wife and I love to do here at the house because it is just a staple here at our home and we make it in mass and we just have it for whenever we want to do a soup or whatever. We just want to warm it up.
Frank: (08:26)
Or if somebody is feeling under the weather, we just want to be able to kinda like pull it out, pop it into a sauce pan, warm it up, and then be able to drink it for its benefit. And then, you know, just to have it throughout the week as well. But anyway, you take all of your aromatics spices and herbs. Um, you know, a lot of folks love putting onion. They put like the mere PLA in it, which that's a fancy term for carrots and celery and onions. Uh, you'll put that in there. Uh, it gives it a really nice kind of like a, a almost like a soup stock of flavoring to it. We put lots of garlic in it, a whole clause. We just throw the whole thing in there. Um, we love putting Apple cider vinegar in it because that helps extract, uh, the collagen more so than just simply adding water to it.
Frank: (09:09)
But of course, you top it all off with water. Um, we put a bunch of different types of herbs in there. Jackie has gotten really fancy with the herbs that she puts in there for different healing components that these herbs can provide. And any way you just let it go. Um, that was the old way that we used to do it and now we actually do it to where we do in an instant pot. Um, and these instant pots guys are game changers. I mean, I dunno if you have heard of an instant pop, it's like a pressure cooker on crack. Um, we are able to make bone broth with it in like 90 minutes. And so it's pretty amazing what we are able to actually do with the bone broth in a very short period of time. And this is the pot extracts all the collagen and glutamine and all that kind of good stuff, uh, out of those bounds.
Frank: (09:56)
And when we put it inside the freezer, or I should say the refrigerator after we've made it, my goodness, it's like bone broth gelatin. It's pretty amazing. Um, that you can literally like shake it and has that like semi-solid appearance to it. Um, it's pretty incredible. And then when you warm it up, it's like boom, it all goes right back to liquid. It's pretty, pretty incredible that it does that. But anyway, that's essentially what a bone broth is all about. Okay. And so there's a lot of really great benefits that we're starting to understand about bone broth. And this is a new, y'all like this is like stuff that people used to track back in Victorian ages. They used to have bone broth, you know, hundreds of years ago. Um, it's not something that's new, it's just something that was lost along with a lot of our other nutritive, uh, benefit of understanding of food and stuff like that.
Frank: (10:42)
And, and now it's like starting to revamp and starting to regain a lot of attention because of all of the benefits that we now know of. And so we'll go from like some of the smaller benefits, we'll go from those to the larger benefits. Okay. Um, because we want to, um, you know, really understand how amazing bone broth actually isn't. So anyway, number one is, and you probably already may know this, is that since it is high in different types of amino acids, it's actually fantastic to boost your immunity. Um, you know, that whole understanding of, you know, being sick and wanting to have a soup, there was legitimate understanding of that. It's not just an old wives' tale. I mean it really is a very dense nutrient packed bone broth can absolutely boost your immunity. And so it should be one of the first things that you not only consume throughout the week, but especially if you're not feeling so well reach for bone broth because it absolutely will in fact actually help with um, boosting of the immune system.
Frank: (11:45)
It can even help with some of the symptoms of the common cold. All right, so it can even do that as well. The next thing is, is that it can help with the symptoms of something called leaky gut. Now there is a [inaudible]. This is number two, by the way, is that leaky gut is something that affects a lot of people with leaky gut actually is [inaudible] excuse me, this will go along with number three is that leaky gut is responsible for allowing different types of bacteria to, uh, be able to actually like have different GI issues and food intolerances. It's a lot of the things that's surrounding the research regarding like auto immune protocol, diet plans and anti-inflammatory diet plans is that a lot of our health starts in the gut. And so, you know, when we consider healing our gut in order to heal our body, that's a really great place to start.
Frank: (12:38)
And so, you know, the, uh, the, the gelatin in those bones are really great. Like, you know, you get this stuff from the like feet and the other joints and stuff like that and it actually helps kind of patch the, uh, you know, the poorest intestinal lining. And so a lot of those kind of myriad of symptoms that we, people that we get, it absolutely can help patch those things up so we can, um, really appreciate the benefits of those. Okay. And that goes along with number three, which is also, you know, the fact that it, uh, helps fight inflammation. Um, so it's really, really great at boosting the amount of glutamine that the body has. And glutamine is a very potent anti oxidant and it's really phenomenal at being able to reduce inflammation. Um, there's a lot of different foods that we eat are actually, um, Rob the body of glutamine.
Frank: (13:33)
And so we want to, uh, have bone broth and other things like that to boost the levels of glutamine inside the body because that will help reduce gut inflammation and therefore allow the gut to heal the way that it actually can. If we supply it with something like bone broth, um, we understand that, you know, it's going to be really good for your joints. Okay. Like obviously Glucosomine and can Triton, um, is really, really great. But instead of using the expensive, uh, supplement of Glucosomine and can shorten that, matter of fact, I used to actually recommend this to my patients. You know, just grabbing yourself cups of bone broth. It's gonna have Glucosomine and can Triton as well. Okay. And so like individuals like myself with a, with, with chronic lower back stuff and chronic knees and, and all that sort of thing, it absolutely could help lubricate those joints.
Frank: (14:26)
Uh, because it has the same things that we have recommended in a pill form. It has this a now more natural form from bone broth. Okay. The other thing is is that it actually can, excuse me by virtue of the length of time that is used. So that was number four, right? So this is number five. So number five is the fact that, um, the collagen also instead of bone broth, really, really wonderful, uh, that are connected tissues, which is a very significant place where a lot of illness can happen. It's really, really important that collagen is being circulated because a lot of our tissues are creative and collagen, you know, collagen is in our fingernails. It's in our skin. Uh, it's definitely inside of our brains. It's inside of our joints like I just spoke about. And so it's super important to have natural forms of collagen in your diet because it will help improve, um, the appearance as well as the operation of all of these different types of soft tissues that we have inside of our body.
Frank: (15:31)
Okay. So that was number five. Number six is, uh, there that can actually hydrate us. Okay. It actually has wonderful electrolytes. It has, um, you know, different constituents of some of the vegetables that we might add to the bone broth in order to be able to have, you know, a fibrous, um, component to it as well. And, and that helps flush out the gut again. And so therefore, uh, drinking bone broth can actually hydrate a body really, really well because there are electrolytes in it. You know, it's that old, uh, science that, you know, even the folks that make those sports and energy drinks use is that, you know, it's chockfull of, I tried, so it's going to hydrate you better. Well, problem is what, those are going to have increased salt, increased sugar, whereas bone broth, it does not have that sort of stuff in it.
Frank: (16:20)
You know, it only has a certain amount of salt that we might add just for palatability of it, but you know, it's really, really fantastic for rehydrating as well. Okay. The other thing is, is that, excuse me, number six, seven, probably seven that we're at right now is that, uh, it will help improve gut bacteria, gut bacteria as super important. Okay. Uh, from when we were born to when we pass away. It's incredibly, it is incredibly potent to have a gut microbiome that absolutely helps with things like memory. Uh, the gut is now being completely understood to be an issue that if you have an unhealthy gut or an unhappy gut that you could be unhappy and anxious and all that sort of stuff as well. And so, you know, these inflammation happens in the gut. We'll set out these molecules and these hormones that will absolutely change your mood and change your mood for the worst.
Frank: (17:16)
And so, um, it's super important that we have those foods, fermented foods and bone broth and stuff like that that will improve the microbiome, the gut bacteria inside of our gut in order to improve our moods and help things with, uh, you know, like depression and stuff like that. And, uh, it's really good for anti-anxiety as they have a very healthy gut. And so, you know, you really are what you eat and so improving your gut microbiome is absolutely super, super important as well. Okay. The next thing is that you could get, um, you have increased bounds. There should be like a dope delicate dub moment. If we're obviously using bones to make bone broth, well then it would make sense that we're going to have all those nutrients in the bone broth that'll help with, uh, you know, really strong bones. So phosphorus, magnesium, calcium are all gonna be inside of your bone broth.
Frank: (18:07)
And so it's extremely important to sip on those because those would be really, really great to be able to actually boost your ability to create bone. This could be really important for ladies who are, uh, you know, tall and more subject to have accepted called osteoporosis, which is a weakening of the bones. Super important to have those, um, to have those components inside of your diet because you can absolutely help strengthen your bones with that as well. Okay. Number eight is, uh, you could sleep better, um, and actually, uh, has a couple of constituents, one of which is called glycine. Glycine can actually help with, uh, [inaudible], excuse me, improving your energy during the day as well as helping you get more restful sleep late at night. Okay. So that was number eight. Number nine, we already talked about that. Uh, and actually like, we'll help you, uh, lose weight, which is, which is sort of interesting.
Frank: (19:01)
The reason why is because it's sort of like this, like kind of like secondary reason, if you will, for Wydell help you actually lose weight. And I'm not saying that it's like absolutely 1000%. Like you start drinking bone broth, they're gonna immediately start losing weight. Like it's better than any, you know, uh, uh, thing out there on the market. If you will. But essentially what it is is there are different types of bacteria in the gut and what will happen is that if these particular types of bacteria are present inside the gut, your body can actually take the food and be able to remove more of the caloric, uh, density out of that food. And the long story short is that by dragging mom brought, you can help reduce the amount of those types of bacteria inside of your guts. And so therefore it's really important that, you know, if you drink bone broth, there might be the secondary effect of it may actually help with low weight loss.
Frank: (19:55)
Okay. So that is, you know, one of those like scientific, like a, it was in published article. Uh, and so the long story short is between that and then some of the secondary effects of like, you feel more full and things like that. Having a, a nourishing bone broth might actually give you that, like feel good, like I don't need to eat as much and stuff like that. And so therefore you might actually, you know, be able to reduce your overall caloric intake, which may help with losing weight. I hope that makes sense because it's like not a direct causation, if you will. It's like, you know, the poem broth might in fact change that got health like we talked about earlier, change the microbiome and then by doing that, you know, you might feel more Sacious or, uh, you have more [inaudible] and so therefore you reduce the amount of total calories that you also consume and, uh, and that may lead the weight loss.
Frank: (20:44)
So this isn't like, you know, a breakthrough going to lose 15 pounds in a month kind of thing. But, you know, feeling more healthy and reducing your caloric intake, of course, we'll in fact lose weight. So, and then the last thing that we wanted to talk about is that, uh, it actually can help with just really opening up the floodgate, if you will, for wanting to be more healthy. Okay. And so, you know, there is this understanding that I like to look at like better nutrition or better sleep or uh, better toxins in your environment in terms of reducing those, whatever way you get into being more healthy can certainly make those more choices. You start having this like understanding of like, Oh wow, this is like a, I call it a gateway drug of health. Um, you break into that and you're like, this is awesome.
Frank: (21:31)
I, I really want to really start being born healthy. And so what you'll do is you'll actually start researching and figuring out different ways to improve your health outside of bone broth. And so that's number 10 right there. And that rounds out our top 10 reasons, or at least my top 10 reasons for why bone broth is extraordinarily healthy. So working in your diet, um, as best way you can. Now, if you don't want to make a, well, actually let me leave you with a couple of recipes for bone broth in the walls to talk about some different ways that if you're active and, and you're out of the house a lot and you don't necessarily have the time to kind of watch a, uh, uh, pot of bone broth simmer on your stove for 20 hours plus. Um, there are some really great, uh, healthy bone bras that we recommend and uh, we'll talk about those as well.
Frank: (22:19)
So the way that we make our bone broth, as we start off with whatever bones we want to use now when it comes to beef bones, what we've realized is we, it, whether we want to make a, you know, a, it depends on whatever animal you'd like to use. So you've got to chicken base, you've got, we have lamb broth, we have, uh, beef broth, whatever you want to make it. We've realized that with beef broth, we want to roast those bones. Not only does it improve a depth of flavor, but it will actually help extract more of the collagen and bone marrow out of it. And so what we'll do is we'll actually even roast those in the oven, uh, for extended period of time, you know, just to start getting that collagen to start breaking down and becoming a more gelatinous. And then that's when we pop it into our instant pot and what we use.
Frank: (23:04)
We use an instant pot. So we had our bones, the instant pot, we add that mirror plot like I talked about earlier, we put a garlic in it. Um, we love putting Apple cider vinegar in it. Uh, we put all of these different types of herbs that we know that we're going to get really good benefit from salt pepper. And then we just pop it on for like high pressure for 90 minutes. And we've got ourselves a nice luxurious bone broth. Okay. He actually got on my wife's website, the uh, the paleo mama.com. She has recipes for the type of bone broth that we actually make. And you can even pick up a copy of her book, which is the home apothecary. And she talks about like that, pick two or three different bone bras inside of that book alone. The other thing guys, is that okay, uh, you know, once we get done with that then we can actually, we place it flat inside of a zip lock bag.
Frank: (23:52)
The reason why we use as a pie, you can use, um, you know, Tupperware or stuff like that if he wants to as well. But the reason why we do this, cause we make an impulse and so we want to be able to just freeze it, put it inside the freezer and pull it out as we need it. We warm it back up, uh, on the stove and stuff like that in order to be able to, to reheat it. Right. You know, get all the college or not go back into a liquid form and stuff like that. And so if you don't have all that kind of time, I'll the instant pot in 90 minutes, it's pretty fast. And now there's a couple of different bone broths. We really like up their student versions. We love this one called bone of fide and you can actually pick that up in most, uh, grocery stores.
Frank: (24:26)
Uh, but board bonafide is fantastic for our on the go and stuff like that. It's essentially bonafide provisions. And then our friends over at kettle and fire have done a really awesome job of creating a shelf stable type of bone broth and they have beef, bone broth and chicken bone bras and those are really fantastic as well. And so those are the ones that we really, really enjoy. Those are the ones we use for soups and things like that when maybe we need something that's a little bit more quick and we haven't had an opportunity to make a bone broth, excuse me. We would like to reach for them. So that's it. Hopefully you learned something today. Um, I am really excited. I wanted to leave this out for the end. Now if you've made it all the way to the end of this podcast, is that we are, I'm pretty excited.
Frank: (25:10)
I have the Prairie homestead. Uh, her name is Jill winger. You might know her. She is going to be coming on and we're going to be talking about some really awesome pixels she's got going on in her life, her, her and her husband and I, we're going to talk about more so some homesteading things and just natural health with chill wingers. Speaker 2: (01:19)
Hey everyone, welcome to unconventional wellness. Radio is a powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's time to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted.
Frank: (01:34)
Something has been heavy on my heart and I wanted to share that something with you tonight. If I feel it is, is my why. All right. And the reason why I'm actually doing this, I really want to, all right. So anyway, I'm Frank. If you don't know me. Um, my program is called unconventional wellness and it is launched. It's ready. Okay. It is my program. It's my enterprise program that describes all of the different things that I, myself has done both personally as well as, uh, you know, with patients, with other people, with colleagues, with friends, all that kind of stuff. Right? And so I wanted to make it available for you. I spent the last year developing the classes. Um, I, which is completely against all of the advice that I was given because a lot of people will say like whatever, you go online and you saw the class and that's what you do, right?
Frank: (02:29)
You saw the class before you actually get to class for, you know, get a bunch of people to figure out what the uh, what you want or what have you and then just lay it out. Right. You lot of people actually create the courses as they are selling them and I didn't want to do that. Right. Cause that's not me. That's not how I roll. And so I had asked myself, well what do people will need? Right? So I wanted to ask that and I you need the app to traveling around the country here. Most recently talking to a lot of people who were very much interested in comas and thing is, is that what I heard the most was we needed someone to be able to describe to us wellness the way that you can and we need someone to be able to describe how matter of fact you are and give us all of the nitty gritties and essentially just tell us what to do.
Frank: (03:20)
And that's exactly what I aim to do when I created unconventional wellness. So I do that with, when I talk about nutrition, I do that. When I talk about movement, I did that one. I talk about toxins, all five of my modules in my program. I talked about them, but I've realized something. It might be a little overwhelming and it might be a lot. And so I want to know what your questions are about it. Um, that's my question to you during this question and answer is even if you're catching this on replay, let me know. All right, write it down on the thread and let me know what your question is about the program and why is it really good for you. And then more so I would love to feed back, um, about why, what is holding you back, right? So like, you're here for content, you're here for advice and I'm just wondering like what do you need?
Frank: (04:09)
Okay. Because at the end state is, and I'm going to say this over and over again, I couldn't care less about making money on this program, right? Like if I could give it away for free. I what the problem is is that it costs me money to host the program. Um, I gotta pay a monthly fee for that. It cost me money to host zoom calls and all that kind of stuff. So I got pay for that. And so at the very minimum, I want to be able to at least support that. So I can't do it for free. But the fact of the matter is, is that like, there is massive value in this. Okay. Um, but I don't want to tell you about that. I want to talk to you about like who I am, where I come from. Okay. So this is going to be like me opening up about myself and if I see people hop on here and give me some comments and all that kind of good stuff, then I absolutely will answer those.
Frank: (04:52)
I'll take breaks and things like that. But I really wanted to ensure that people knew where I was coming from. Okay. First and foremost, I want to let you know something is that I did not have the radiused times like through my young adult life. Okay. Um, I had a lot of different situations that arose that, you know, called the school of hard knocks, something like that, but it just wasn't easy. Okay. And so I can't uphold that now into the fact that I am a depressed 21 year old. A guy who just recently lost my dad. All right? This was right after nine 11 as well, but just also recently lost my dad and I was hurting. And I can't imagine that I'm not talking to individuals out there that don't feel the same way that I do. Right. Like you're hurting. And so I didn't know what to do, but I figured I'm not going to stop.
Frank: (05:46)
Okay. I'm just going to keep pressing on and I'm just going to keep going ahead. And so graduated college had no clue what I wanna do with my life. I felt like I was going to want to go to medical school, something like that. But, um, there was a lot of sand kicked in my face and so I didn't know what I wanted to do, so I just said whatever. Let me try to use my degree. Right? So I did, I graduated with a degree in exercise physiology and I thought I should just go be a personal trainer. I was not physically fit whatsoever. Okay. I had probably gained 40 to 50 pounds in maybe a couple of months because of the significant depression that I felt. It was a lot of emotional eating, a lot of emotional drinking to the point where I probably was, if I wasn't an alcoholic, I was at least a drunk.
Frank: (06:33)
And so, um, cause I use it as my medication to numb myself. Okay. And so I, uh, I still said whatever, I kind of do something with myself, right? Because I'm sitting here to now taking care of my widowed mom and myself. And so I said, I got to do something. So I went and I became a personal trainer. But like I said, I was like 40 or 50 pounds overweight. I didn't even realize that I didn't have the card stacked up against me. Okay. And so I shut up and somehow I get a job. Um, actually it took me, it's okay. I took an opportunity on me, so I was helping people. Again, that was, that's the one common thread that I known that I've always wanted to do is I've always wanted to help people. And so I started personal training and clients were getting in really great shape.
Frank: (07:14)
And so the question of course was being asked to me from coworkers like, well, why aren't you getting in shape? And I was like, after some time I was like, gosh, you're absolutely right. Like, what am I doing with myself? I'm sitting here giving people knowledge about how they can do it, but why am I not doing myself? So I started doing it myself. I started getting in shape. Then I started realizing that I was getting some confidence, right? So like everybody who lose a little bit of weight, we get some confidence. And so I started going and saying to myself, I feel like I'm destined for something more. Okay. Like I was not making bad money. Guys in the early two thousands I think most of us would have been happy with a high four to a low five figure per month. I was a 23 year old college graduate making pretty good money.
Frank: (07:55)
And so, Oh, [inaudible] yeah. [inaudible] in one pathway. But I didn't want it. Something more. I didn't, I feel that I was doing what I was destined to do and that was ultimately helping people. Okay. I didn't feel like I was helping people enough. I've always, I hate to say it, but it's been this expanding mushroom. I've always wanted to do more. Like what else can I do to help more people? And so I said to myself, I said, I'm going to just go ahead and join the military. So my father was in the military. Both my brothers were in the military. It made sense that I wasn't going to be the only Ritz in my family who didn't serve in some form or fashion. And so I said, whatever, I'm going to drop it all. I'm going to join the military. I went, I joined the military in a medical type of MOS.
Frank: (08:41)
I was a combat medic. Okay. I was going to start helping people again, like big time. Right. I couldn't even imagine at that time, I couldn't even imagine a cooler way to serve or to serve people join as a combat medic did some time, um, initially in my enlistment and then had the opportunity to go become an officer. And so I was sent to officer candidate school. They found for some reason they found a reason, a tournament on officer's zone and Kevin officer. But when you become an officer in the military, often they do take a look at what you used to do, but then they really also say, well that's all well and good, but we really need you for this. And so they put me in a position where I was involved in maintenance that was over soldiers who their job was to fix trucks and weapons, all right. And weapons systems and all that other stuff.
Frank: (09:34)
I did it because I pretty much was told to do it right? Like that's, I signed up, I signed the dotted line. That's what I was supposed to do. So during my first deployment as an officer in a Calvary unit to the middle East, all right, we were near Baghdad. I embraced it. I did the best that I possibly could. The fact of the matter was is that despite whatever personal feelings I had about like you know, my passions or whatnot, here's the deal. I was still serving because I was still serving people. Cause now I was able to invest my time in soldiers, like I was their platoon leader, I was there, uh, executive officer. I had time to be able to really spend time with my soldiers. And so like, of course that need was being filled about maybe halfway through this deployment I go, I got to get back into medicine.
Frank: (10:22)
Like I started getting this little twin in the back of my head and I was, I said, I really want to help people heal. I really need to help people heal. And so, um, I decided whatever, let's go ahead and try it for PA school. So I put together my application, I put together my packet, I sent it away, I get accepted to PA school. Awesome. Right? Like I'm going to go be a medical provider now. Like I can't think of a better way to serve. And so I did my two years, it was about two years for my training. You know, you do the year of in the classroom and then you, you do a year of clinical rotations. I finish up, I've got my degree, I have my certification now. I'm ready to go set up certain people and that's when the real grind started.
Frank: (11:02)
Okay. Like I was not going to allow any of those things to keep me from my ultimate goal of always helping people. This is my lifelong Michigan guys. Like I am not going anywhere. I want to help people. And here's the thing, I started believing in, I need to give a prescription for everything. I need to, um, do everything that I possibly can. I need to irradiate people with lots of x-rays cause I'm a problem solver and I, that's what people need. And I come to find out that that's really not what you needed in the active duty military. Okay? These folks were actually really sick and these folks were really sick because whether you have served a day or not, they have horrible lifestyles. Okay? Like the lifestyle of a soldier is ridiculous in terms of the vast majority of them that some of them are stuck instead out.
Frank: (11:58)
It's okay, really, really great shape. Totally take care of themselves and all that kind of stuff. But some of these folks super sick, they smoke a lot. They drank a lot of energy drinks. They don't, uh, pay attention to what they eat and all that kind of stuff. Right. And so I needed to do something. So there's something was start to talk to a lot of different colleagues and other natural care providers because I said, despite all my best efforts, these folks aren't really getting better. Right. Um, they're, they're having multiple side effects. They're on multiple medications, they're zombies. I can't do this to him anymore. And so I started really diving into Eastern medicine and natural healing modalities. And so that's where I started developing my understanding of natural wellness. And so I started doing these things with myself. I am a product of the product.
Frank: (12:47)
When I say that I did not know this, but apparently at the time, I mean all makes full sense now is that genetically I have really blush that's like super high scares. Most providers high. Okay. Um, for the age that I am and stuff like that. This was like when I was back in my mid twenties. Okay. So like super high skyrocketed cholesterol. Um, other labs were looking OK and stuff like that, but really, really, really a problem with the cholesterol. Thankfully I didn't smoke it. They're doing all those other things, but I didn't have the type of lifestyle. Even me, I'm have to do identical type of lifestyle. I did. So I had to tell myself, what can I do to make myself better? Well, it started with the paleo diet. That's the diet that Jackie and I both started, um, 15 years ago now. Like something like that, right?
Frank: (13:35)
Like 15, 30, 10 to 15 years ago, somewhere around there. And we found out that here is the philosophy that we developed over all those years. We started following the paleo diet. We started getting really healthy. I dropped my cholesterol by 60 points. It went from like the mid two fifties to like, I think I was in like the one eighties and then I do the following month and I think I went down in another 15 points more. And that was without anything. Like I had status, these medications that, um, a good friend of mine just posted this and he's a cardiologist. He said that out of, if you look at these treatment wires, these wire diagrams, seven out of nine different outcomes automatically say PR prescribed a stat. That's what they actually say. Okay. Depending upon different labs and whatever. But seven out of nine guys, I mean that's crazy is that we're just simply just Penn stroking a prescription and saying, here you go.
Frank: (14:30)
And that's, and that's the, the issue with our healthcare system is that we are so burdened with seeing folks in such a short period of time because everything is all about, you know, people, people, people, people, people move, move, move, move, move, CCC, CCC, um, that it's really hard to actually focus on the person. Right? And so that started giving me a really bad taste in my mouth as I was like, I don't want to be a person who's prescribed these medications, nor do I want to be the person that prescribes these medications because it is possible that people can get better. And so that's why I took a personal challenge on myself and I said, let me follow the paleo diet for like 30 days. Make sure that I get the right type of workout. I started doing some, a high interval, a high intensity interval training, and my cholesterol got better, right?
Frank: (15:19)
I got out in the sun more, I drank a lot more water, I cut out sodas, I cut out snacks, I ate at particular times and I only ate these particular foods. And so the common thread has always been clean eating. That is the one thing that I can tell you if you take away one step on all of this, clean eating works, okay? 60 to 70% of like situations, finding out like health issues can be cleaned up with nutrition. All right? There's lots of people doing paleo dance. There's lots of people do on the autoimmune protocol. There's lots of people doing Quito. You probably can't even be on Facebook and not see an ad for somebody who is actually promoting those. Okay? These diets can help, but if you like your grains and if you want to have a more sensible heart-healthy type of diet, well then why are you limiting yourself to just one particular diet plan?
Frank: (16:13)
Right? So like that's where I wanted to come in as I wanted to say what are the other diet plans that we know, whether they are backed by scientific evidence or really great empirical data and testimonies, why don't you need to know about those as well and so that's what I set out to do is I wanted you to be able to say, okay, what are my goals? What do I need to do? What am I trying to accomplish? Am I trying to get heart-healthy? Am I trying to heal my gut? Am I trying to lose some weight? Am I trying to cut my salt, lower my blood pressure? What am I trying to do? That's why I personalized my nutrition module for you. Okay. I did that with all my modules because I realize that different types of exercises at different times of work, surprisingly enough, I have done and still do yoga.
Frank: (17:02)
All right. I am not a master Yogi. I definitely would not say that, but at least one time a week I tried to get a really fantastic stretch routine. Why? Number one, I'm getting older and flexibility is huge. Yoga centers you, which is phenomenal for somebody who has post traumatic syndrome symptoms. Okay? And it just works for me. Okay, I do acupuncture. I have done meditation. All right? I have done these things and I want to let you know what can work depending upon what your need is. I do the same exact thing in my movement module. Okay? I do this with sleep. I give you bad, a awesome A-grade steps to understand how to get better sleep and of course I want to help you detoxify and what really hits the heart of it is how can I help you in your stress and anxiety?
Frank: (17:54)
How can I help you mitigate that, use it for the plumbing the back as I was just telling somebody earlier today that in my personal life, my, when I was early on in my marriage, I was able to hammer home nutrition and exercise. That was not a problem for me. Like I was able to stay super stringent. Okay? I was feeling better, I was losing weight and all that kind of stuff. Problem was, I wasn't dealing with what's going on up here. Okay? I was an angry man. I was an anxious man. I was a frustrated man. I was on pins and needles for the dumbest things. Okay. And I didn't like that about myself. And I realized that despite all of my exercise and despite all of my great nutrition, I still was missing something because this was making the rest of this not feel good.
Frank: (18:47)
And so I had to focus on this. And so I started really diving into understanding stress and anxiety at their core levels and then what did they do to the body? And then what can we do to really help counterbalance those and bring real healing to your body when it comes to this stuff. Okay. We've got a society who is killing themselves at massive, massive, crazy rates. All right? Something that hits home to me is I was, as I had suicidal depression at one point in my life, I absolutely under no circumstances felt like I needed to be here. And this was after my first deployment. This was when the posttraumatic stress really set in. And so, um, I mean I had some legitimate issues. Um, I couldn't drive like, well I remember being on the interstate and while I was in Iraq, there were Jersey barriers.
Frank: (19:42)
And on these Jersey barriers, one of the tactics of the enemy was to put a bomb on a Jersey barrier cause it's about the right height to be able to kind of blow into the windows and the door of the, uh, Humvees that we drove around and the other trucks that we drove around. And a lot of people got injured with that tactic. And so a lot of us, we refer to it as, you either do the sideways lean right and you like lean in because that's going to protect you from a blast. We all start stupidly, but literally everybody would like be pointed on whatever side of the vehicle you were on. You were pointing towards the middle. Um, but then the other thing was is that like, you know, I had buddies who got injured and so like this just really stuck with me.
Frank: (20:16)
And when I moved to the city that we did that I did my first, um, when I came back from my deployment and I went to PA school [inaudible] there was a lot of interstate construction going on and there was these Jersey barriers, the same exact Jersey barriers that I saw, hundreds, the thousands of them in the middle East. Um, Palm sweating, heart racing. I mean, just this uncomfortable feeling all over anxiety. I'd probably had super shallow, fast breathing. And I realized on the interstate at 60 miles an hour, everybody's their horns at me. And I remember recollecting, looking down at my odometer, I'm going 22 miles an hour on the interstate. So not only was I a threat to myself, I goodness God, I was, that was a threat to other people. And so, you know, I've told Jackie this many times, I told my wife this many times.
Frank: (21:05)
She thankfully gave me a reason to live. And from that, because of the fact that I found a reason to live, that's what I needed. I needed to find out what is my purpose. And now I have been born again. I do not. I consider it and plain as day tell you that I don't feel like I suffer from post traumatic stress and the symptoms much anymore. I guess I do have some drama with hypervigilance. I mean like my house is set up like Fort Knox and I mean, gosh, you can see right back there. You see that that's my key bed for my, um, extremely good security system. But needless to say is that I still have things that I don't know if I'll ever get rid of them. Right. But I like to look at them as now an advantage, right? Like I'm not numb to things.
Frank: (21:55)
Instead, now I am acutely aware. Okay. Um, yes, I sometimes over plan for things and what have you and can drive some people a little bit bad and do include myself. But quite honestly, the important thing, uh, by the way, Hey Christine, I just finally popped up here and saw your message. But anyway, um, that is where I've been able to take the, the healing process really, really well. And so what I've done is I've learned is really great modalities that work, their medical modalities that work. But then how can we support the effort that we're putting in, right? Because like going into a session like EMDR is a wonderful thing if you guys have never actually looked into it and you've had a traumatic experience happen to you. Okay. It could be like, guys, I'm just going to get real. It could be sexual abuse that you suffered when you were younger.
Frank: (22:45)
It could be, um, abused from a, from a family member. I mean, it could be you witnessed a horrific car accident. Okay. God forbid you weren't involved in a crime, something essentially that you, mm. A lot of your life was in danger or where you thought that somebody else was going to die. Okay. Like think nine, 11. Right. That was a PTs nightmare in terms of all of the things of all the people that were affected by that, I mean probably upwards of millions because you had people, of course they were right there at ground zero experiencing the fact that probably their friends and loved ones were in those towers. And then you had people who are watching folks tragically fall out of these towers. A lot of them were just deciding that there was nothing better that they could do and they were jumping.
Frank: (23:37)
But long story short is that millions of folks who watched that were just affected by it. And so yeah, I say all that because the trauma that is in you or the trauma that is unfortunately, but fallen you does not need to be the thing that you carry with you for the rest of your life. And so there are modalities out there that are really working, but it doesn't require you to do just one thing. You gotta hammer at it. Okay, you really got to do, you're going to hammer at it over the course of time. It's taken me years to feel this way. It's taken me years to sit here and look at you and say, I don't nearly feel the symptoms that I used to. Um, I used to be that guy who when I went out to a restaurant, I couldn't sit anywhere, but in that corner I had to sit in the corner.
Frank: (24:18)
You could put baby in the corner at that point. Okay. Um, but I had to sit in the corner. I had to see everything that was going on and I had to face the door. Right? I'm sitting backwards right now and yeah, granted I could see my door, but that don't bother me anymore. Or at least it doesn't bother me nearly as much. Okay. So I'm letting you know that because there is hope for you. There is a world of healing that can happen for you and I want to help you see that. I want to help bring that to light. And that is my mission. My mission is, it remains to be just that it remains to be helping you. All right? We now have the capability where I have the ability to get on my computer or like zoom call with a group of folks and be able to actually talk to you and help provide individualized, personalized help for all of you.
Frank: (25:08)
I will meet you right where you're at. I mean, I don't know very many folks that are able to do that and that's what I want to be able to bring you with my program. Okay. But I'm letting you know right now the program is going to be closed. All right? There has been people that have signed up and I'm going to diligently work with those people. They deserve my attention, they deserve my help, and they've reached out to me. So I'm going to reach out to that. I would love for you to join us, but the fact of the matter is I'm closing my program off to new people very, very soon. All right? You can count on, you can count on it in less than two hands. I am going to close it because I want to focus on the people that have invested their time and their resources.
Frank: (25:49)
So I can invest into them. So what are you waiting for? All right. If you have an issue that you would like to discuss about like, well I got a question about this or I had to you know, think about that. Or if you think that it would be a value that I go in there and show you what my content is all about, I'd be happy to do so. But you gotta let me know. You gotta let me know what you need. All right, I'm not prescribing anything. This is not something where if I have nutritional help or like saving, like my nutrition is great, I think that's wonderful. But the fact of the matter is it's like have we considered the other aspects of wellness? If you consider the other pillars, because all of them are important. And so that's what I want to do is I want to help deconstruct this thing, boil it down, disseminate it down, and give you action steps, practical action steps that you can in place right now in order to be able to start getting some actual help.
Frank: (26:37)
Okay? And I'm here for you, but you gotta let me know that you're there. All right? You gotta let me know that you're there. I'm this thing, it's not a matter of days. All right? And I'm going to focus on my folks who have jumped on board. Okay? I'm letting you know that right now that it will be closed. So what's the value of this? Okay, well, if I had to put a value on something, and I'm being completely honest, I have seen a nutritional program, right? Go for like anywhere between $300 and a thousand dollars nutrition only. And I might be just be one diet that might just be one diet plan where somebody talks to you about like paleo and autoimmune, which is a great diet. Don't get me wrong, I mean like plenty of research, plenty of folks out there with lots of amazing testimonies that their gut is healed in their life has changed.
Frank: (27:24)
I'm not downplaying paleo or autoimmune, I'm just using it as an example. But the fact of the matter is, is that that's just that one diet that people are charging 300 to a thousand dollars for. You know? I mean, you might get lucky, you might find it for a hundred 150 something like that, but let's face it, when you talk about 10 diets like I do, you are getting a $500 at least section module that I could charge for. I don't charge that. Okay? When you move the same thing as applicable to my movement exercise, all right? That's a $200 program. At least you're getting that for the price that I have listed, the, you know, [inaudible] you're going to get all five. Okay? Hmm. No, I'm getting better sleep. I mean, think about the amount of time that you would take to go to a sleep specialist to pay them for them to try to do a bunch of things, do a bunch of tests and stuff like that for them to do all this amazing stuff and you spend this money and time, or I could just tell you how to do it on your own and that invaluable, right?
Frank: (28:20)
Like take, take this provider's understanding and how I can improve your health in that way. All right? How I can help you in that way, that alone has gotta be worth 500 bucks. You know, cause I used to charge people for this stuff. I mean, come on, you come and see me depending upon how much I actually saw you and the amount of time that we were exposed to one another in terms of our talks and all that kind of stuff. You call that a patient contact thing, right? I mean, that started a 150 bucks. Right? Um, the other thing is, is, uh, the, the toxins. I mean, where do you even start? Well, I'm gonna give you practical advice on that. Okay. A couple hundred dollars probably in valued for that, right? So what are we at right now? Like 1,502 grand, something like that. And then, and then the last thing is combating stress and anxiety and you know that's at least another couple of hundred dollars.
Frank: (29:05)
So we're talking like easily around two grand for a program like this. I'm not charging that. Okay. I am charging you to get started with my basic aversion. 37 bucks is 37 bucks. Really not worth it, right? Like don't we spend more money than that on a gym membership when I can be bringing you practical, real world advice, proven real world advice that can absolutely help you. And if it doesn't, guess what? I've got money back guarantee. All right? If you needed something else, I guarantee that if you don't feel where you need to be feeling in days, we'll work something out. All right? You'll either get crazy overboard, Frank, where I'll just like want to like beef up crazy customer service. We'll give you your money back and I you can count on that. Okay. I mean, my goal is not to make millions here.
Frank: (29:56)
My goal is to help millions. That's what I want to do. That is my heart and that is what I am here for is to help people. Okay, so do it for yourself. All right? If you've got, I'm trying not, I'm trying not to, well up here with some tears and I'm sorry that I kind of hijacked as Q and a to pour my heart out for you. Is that aye? I don't want to do anything but help you where you're at. My heart is heavy with people who are struggling. You shouldn't be having to worry about struggling with your health guys and girls. That should not be like a thing. Okay? There are far too many folks out there, myself included that are here for you. All you've gotta do is reach out, right? Like I used to tell my patients all the time and I had diabetic patients at 25 I mean this wasn't uncommon.
Frank: (31:02)
I'm going to reach out this far, right? Like this is this. If this is 100% I'm gonna reach my 50% no problem. I have no questions or reservations to reach out 50% but you have to do this. You've got to reach back, right? I, I can't drag you kicking and screaming and telling you this is what you need. This is Virginia and take attack hammer and like beat it over your head. What am I going to do besides bruise your head? Instead I need you to understand I'm here. You get me with the program. I am the program. I want to reach out, give you my resources for whatever I can and meet you where you're at. I mean, my program is available on a tablet. It's available on a smart phone. It's available on your desktop, whatever. I am making myself super available to you because that's because I love you.
Frank: (31:59)
I love people and this is my mission in life. My mission is to help people heal themselves. That's it. That's, it has taken me 40 years. I turned 41 this month. Guys. I don't want a birthday present. I'm just telling you, I turned 41 this year or this month. Excuse me. And that is what my purpose on planet earth is about, is nothing on earth that has happened in the previous 40 years has not kept me from flying this plane to its ultimate purpose of helping people always call me a bit of a romantic when it comes to, I love helping people with all of these things, but let's find out where you are and where do you need your help. And then of course, how can I help you? That's it. That's it. Okay. I'm old school. All right. I answered the phone. I say, how can I help you?
Frank: (32:57)
And that's what I'm here for. I want genuine, honest, real, Oh well this you okay? Sure. Informative. I think we can do this in 90 days. No sweat. If you're willing to put in the time and the effort and show me what you would like to do, I will. I will meet you at 50% okay? But I'm letting you guys know this program is going away. I'm locking it up. Okay. I am. I am locking this up in the next couple of days. All right. And it might not be offered for this price ever again. And that's just because this was my introductory, get it out there and let the world see it and all that kind of stuff. I'll let you know something cool about my program. I've actually been asked by a government agency, and I don't want to necessarily go massive in the details, but I've been asked by a government agency to actually provide this for people and I know like at least the continental United States level, but probably would go beyond because there are folks that who this will become available to who are currently out in other countries.
Frank: (34:04)
And so I say that because it's like, aye, this to me that's a, that's a realization that this thing is like world-class, right? Like this is like world-class. Like this is like something that, aye. I almost felt like you remember Frank the tank from like old school, right? Where he like did the debate scene. If you haven't seen it, just do me a favor and just go and look at that debate scene cause it was hilarious. But frankly, tank played by, uh, by will Ferrell was debating against, um, the raging Cajun. Unfortunately, I cannot remember his exact name, but he's a gentleman that was pretty popular in the 1990s. I can't remember what news station he was on. But anyway, bald head glasses, uh, helped me out in the comments. If you're gonna remember what his name was. I know it was known the raging Cajun, but anyway, long story short is there was a scene where he supposedly did a debate with him and it was so funny that like he did it a made, it sounded incredible.
Frank: (34:58)
And then at the end he goes, what was that all? Oh, and that's how I felt like when I was creating this right. Like it was like literally like I was on like this different level. Like I don't, I don't even understand where I was, but apparently the information was flowing. Um, and that's what happens when, you know, personal experience and the ability to earn the knowledge meets up with passion. When those two things collide, greatness can happen. I'm not saying I'm great. What I'm saying is that greatness happened. Okay. By all means. I am, I am Uber humble when it comes this like this is something that like I am the, the end state for the understanding of many different factors playing into my life. Mentors, colleagues, uh, associates, I mean patients teaching me stuff, uh, uh, friends and family members teaching me stuff.
Frank: (35:53)
Like I've just soaked it all in. And uh, and of course personal research. And so like greatness was able to be provided in this program. Like I really feel like it is pretty solid. And, and the thing is, is like when you become part of the unconventional wellness warrior tribe, you're in it for life. Like it's not like, Oh, you get it for the 90 days and it's like Tootles you know, like you're done. That's it. You paid your 30 bucks and have a nice one. No, you're in it for life. So like I will be updating this material, I will be putting new modules or not new modules, excuse me, but at least new courses in their new videos. Now it's pretty dynamic. Like, you know, if you do the $47 package, which I'm saying like these are the payment plan options, you know, a four payments of 47 bucks gets you into the Facebook group and the Facebook group is where you're going to get me to like just literally brain dump this information on you weekly and like get the positive support back from you, what you're telling me, what's going on, what's good, bad or different and we work it out.
Frank: (36:59)
So you're getting that as well. So, um, that alone, I mean when you start adding stuff like that guys, I mean the program alone and I are kind of went over the value, but now you're getting me. So it's like, I don't think I'm, I don't think I'm something that's worth $5,000 an hour. That's stupid. But instead, you know, the value of that I would feel would be, I would love that. Right? Like, I would love the ability to just like say like, Hey man, this is what [inaudible] like help me, you know? And like then we can start helping each other, right? So you can like pick my brain and then you got this person over here that has a win about this particular diet plan that they've been following. You've got that person over here who's like killing it with like detoxing their body and this other person's like, I had a really cool workout plan and you know what I mean?
Frank: (37:44)
So like it becomes a cohesive, bigger than ourselves. Everybody contributes kind of thing. All I ended up doing is just kind of sitting back, monitoring it, moderating it and providing my pieces to it. But it's all of you guys that build the puzzle. I mean, how cool is that, right? Like it takes a tribe. It takes, I can build here is that not only do I want to help you, but I empower people to help each other because that is like, that is true greatness right there. That becomes something huge, right? Like I learned that concept in the army. You don't want that stuff unless you have experience, guys. All right. And I say guys and girls, I mean both men and women of course. But you learn that through experience. You learn that as, as surrendering yourself to be bigger, a bigger part of the whole.
Frank: (38:33)
All right? And, and that right there, there was like, there's healing in that. I mean, just knowing that you belong is cool. Huge. When you've got something like that, right? Like how many of us do not get the nice, amazing, warm and fuzzy when you feel like you're, you, you were Dustin and necessary to be there. That's awesome. Okay. So, and that's about all that. The question is, is where are you, okay. The question is, where are you, I want you to jump on this thing because I had done this. You've gotten my 50%. Okay. I will be happy to meet you halfway. There's the line. I'm ready to meet you. Okay. But it's up to you. I'm closing this thing here very shortly. I've been monitoring my chat. I actually don't see, um, I don't see what you wanna call it. I don't see, uh, any comments.
Frank: (39:30)
I see comments about what I've been talking about, but maybe I've just been blathering on and nobody really wants to, nobody really wants to ask questions but that's fine. But I just wanted to come out here and at least tell you my heart guys. Um, this is it. This is me. Like this is me super transparent. Like I have no problem telling you about my pitfalls and my pain points and the things that have just crushed me over the years. And uh, and I'll let you know that I am a walking example of perseverance and every single day it's a new adventure and I'm learning more about myself and you know, to look back at all of those things that I have experienced in order to be able to sit here today and know that my best way of being able to heal even more now is to help people start healing guys.
Frank: (40:16)
I couldn't be any more blessed with anything else. I mean that to me is like, that's it. That is like, once again, that is like what things I have experienced meeting that passion. I mean that's perfect right there. To me that is greatness. That is like, that's it. So that's my why guys. My why is you all right. My why is you, how can I help you? All right. Hi, I am grateful beyond measure for all the people that took time in me and were able to help me get this understanding of myself and now I'm offering myself, I want to help you and I can't do that if I don't know who you are. And if you're just kind of passively going through the motions and you know, to be honest with ya, not that your content in your ways, but you just are stuck and you need some traction.
Frank: (41:13)
Well like I said, there's that hand, right? There's that hand. Let me help you up because people had to do it to me and it's my turn to pay it forward now. And that's what I want to do. So anyway, that's my program guys. Unconventional wellness, real and holistic change in 90 days following the five pillars of unconventional on this, which are nutrition movement, getting better sleep, reducing those toxins and combating that stress. And anxiety. It's my enterprise program. Guys, this is me. I mean, this is everything that I have learned over the years to be able to help dozens of people. And now I want to help you. I just have never offered myself like this before. I've always done it one on one, but I need to help the masses. I want to help people where they are. And so anyway, I'm closing it soon.
Frank: (41:59)
I think I've said this now three times. When I used to say that in the military, I would start stomping on the floor and knocking on something and let you know it's important. So this is important. I'm closing it soon. Okay? I'm going to focus on those folks who have taken the step that I've asked them to take, and they've started to meet me half halfway. Um, I'm asking you to do the same. So please let me know what your questions are. You're quitting your concerns. Um, how can I help you? How can I show you? I'd be happy to get on here and do a mock module, whatever, whatever it takes to help give you that warm and fuzzy to know that this program is probably for you, okay? We all could use better health and wellness. I mean the numbers don't lie guys.
Frank: (42:36)
Three point $5 trillion spent in healthcare every single year. If you didn't catch my podcast, there's a link to it on this page. Um, there's a link to it on the post that I did earlier, but three point $5 trillion spent on healthcare, 18% of our gross domestic product, that's a huge number, okay? Of which at least 50% of that chronic preventable illness, right? B [inaudible] pressure, obesity, like metabolic syndrome stuff, heart disease. These are all lifestyle mitigated things. All right? And if we were to change our lifestyle, we can change our destiny. It is possible. All right? I'm a walking example and I've got folks that have done it too. So, and you hear about the, you hear about the stories all over, okay? But how do you fit into the picture? You got to figure it out. All right. And that's what I'm here for. So anyway, wanted to go on, much love to you guys.
Frank: (43:38)
Um, I'm just like this song, if you don't know who I am, I'm just a real person. I was perfectly named, my name is Frank and that's how I act and that's how I talk. I'm very matter of fact. And the reason why is because I think that now more than ever, this is what we need. Okay? Like I, we need legitimate, practical understanding of these things. We can make legitimate change. So anyway, I hope you have a wonderful night. If you don't need this program, do me a favor, share this program with a friend because they might need your help and this would be a wonderful way for you to pay it forward to somebody else. Okay? If you're looking for that one good act to do every single day to help benefit somebody else, tango, tag them in this video or better yet, send them my way, give them the information and let them know that I'm here for them.
Frank: (44:26)
So hope you guys have a blessed week. Um, and I appreciate it. I didn't see any questions, but that's not a bad thing. Um, I will, you know, wait a second. Can I see one last question? I promise. And then I promise I'll wrap this thing up. So, um, Deanna, I would offer to you as that answers that question. Um, possibly yes. And I would absolutely love to help you uncover what you think might be is going on underneath. And I rest assured, you know, we have to attack this thing from multiple ways. So I think that we absolutely can see some really great change in you. Um, and I would love to help you experience that change. So, um, anyway, um, I don't see any other questions except for Shane. Shane said, how do I start? Perfect. I will put the link on here.
Frank: (45:18)
No worries. And, uh, and I hope to see you guys. All right. Come join us on our unconventional whiners. Fine. Let's try it. Okay. Um, come be part of the Facebook group. Uh, you know, it's an unconventional wellness with Frank widths. Um, you can, like I said, check out my podcast. It's just unconventional on this radio. I'm pretty redundant. So email me, let me know what your concerns or questions or whatever it is. I'm here to help guys. This is my mission. This is my focus. This is my purpose. So anyway, I'll sign off from there. Frank: (00:00)
Hello and welcome to unconventional wellness radio. This is episode 39 where I am going to talk to you about intermittent fasting or I have, if you actually are looking for something that could be a very healing to the body, intermittent fasting might be for you. So stay tuned. I'm going to talk about my experiences here recently with intermittent fasting and how it's always been a portion of my diet plan in order to really help my nutrition. So on convention wellness radio. I'm Frank, I'm your host and I will talk to you about intermittent fasting very soon. Hey everyone, and welcome to unconventional wellness radio is powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disruptive healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey, what's up everybody? I am going to assume that we are good.
Frank: (00:54)
I'm going to give people a couple of moments, um, if they're celebrating lunch right now to hop on. So we'll get started in one second. And I will talk to you about intermittent fasting and seriously what it's done for me. And it's been pretty unbelievable what it's been able to do for me. So, um, I'll just give it a couple of moments. If you're on right now, let me know and, uh, just tell me where you're from and tell me if you've ever heard of intermittent fasting. Raise your hand and say like, Hey, yes I have or no I haven't or no, that's crazy. Or whatever. Um, first things first is I'm wanting to tell everybody to, uh, if they're, if they're considering intermittent fasting, um, first and foremost run it by a physician because, um, you may not be primed for it to just jump right in.
Frank: (01:42)
Okay. You might have to actually kind of work your way in, um, because there might be like, especially if you've had a previous eating disorder or something like that, like we want to get those either nutrition or abnormalities taken care of before we even consider to, uh, to, to try something like intermittent fasting. And here's the thing, most of us have intermittent fast, right? By simple virtue of the word Breck fist or break fast. That's exactly what we do every single morning. So like usually we'll be done with eating dinner and then there'll be a period of fasting because we don't need to eat while we're sleeping of course. And then we just turn around and uh, and then break our fast when we have breakfast. But here's what I've started to doing. This is what has really been helpful for me. I'm doing a lot of research on this recently because I am probably not unlike you.
Frank: (02:32)
I probably an emotional eater. I probably eat because of social pressures. Like I still go to the like movies or whatever and I want to have a BA, a massive bucket of popcorn. Right? Um, so that was always the case. Whenever I get together with family and stuff like that, there's that social aspect of eating. And so food has really worked its way in becoming like a, like a, like a, a lifestyle that always subconsciously seen. And so I, I get it, right? I understand that, uh, that there are different pressures that cause food behaviors in us. And so I wanted to take the opportunity to say I don't want food to have this kind of grip in my life. I've always had to struggle with weight and stuff like that. And so I said, I want to do something that's going to like really help me break free of just not being um, super attached to food.
Frank: (03:31)
Right? Like we, I mean like we need food, we need to eat. Okay. So by all means, I'm not telling you not to eat, but what I'm saying is that like, it's really a great opportunity to be able to actually like put the food back in its place and, and be able to actually benefit from the nutrient dense foods that we're eating, but be able to actually break free of the bonds of the slavery of food. I've been reading some things that are, food is more addictive than ever. Okay. One large culprit of our food that is causing people to like be like stupid addicted to food. Is this a, this high fructose corn syrup. Okay. High fructose corn syrup is like upwards of like 15 to 20%. I'm sorry, 15 to 20 times more, uh, sweet than sugar. And the problem is, is that it messes with our hormones.
Frank: (04:23)
Okay? There's a lot of food things that are a lot of additives that mess with our home hormones. The first of which is something called ghrelin. That's G. H. R, E. L. I, N. ghrelin is essentially the hormone that let you know, like I'm ready to eat. I'm kind of hungry, okay. Then there's another hormone called leptin. Leptin is essentially the opposite of ghrelin. When you have larger leptin, uh, throughout the bloodstream, then the body is a little bit more satiated feeling. Okay? It's a add. It's a, it's a reducer of the appetite. It lets your body know that there it's, I'm working on food and I'm, I'm, I'm happy. I'm content. All right? But the problem is that we're becoming like gremlin on ghrelin, okay? And the reason why I say that is because these foods are reading are not really bulky. They're not full of fiber. And so the ghrelin is being stimulated because we're eating something that tastes good, but it's really not providing this nutrient dense opportunity.
Frank: (05:22)
And so the ghrelin is just continuing to increase in our bloodstream. Okay. Whereas unfortunately, high fructose corn syrup can also play havoc in your body and not allowing it to release as much leptin as we as we should. And so with the increase in ghrelin and the decrease in left, and you can see that that's setting us up for subconsciously feeling like we're hungry all the time. Okay. And so that is one of the largest things that I wanted to do is I was really wanting to take in consideration how can I change the hormonal structure function, if you will, of my body. And so that's why I really wanted to look into something like, you know, the paleo diet and then eventually became the ketogenic diet for awhile, which we're still following Quito principles. And now we've moved into Quito with intermittent fasting. And that's just what we're doing right now.
Frank: (06:11)
And it's been wonderful. The reason why is because my body is getting the calories that it needs. It's getting the nutrition that it AIDS, but it's on my time, right? Like it's on, I'm not eating like where most Americans eat 12 to 16 hours in the day. Like most Americans especially eat when they're awake and we snack more than you can imagine these days. And so we've become very accustomed to like being people who just consume food energy, right? And if we're consuming the wrong type of food energy, we're gaining weight. We're not actually showing any signs of energy and we're tired a lot more than what we originally felt like we should be. And so all of this is leading toward not having food be the reason why we're actually getting energy and why we're increasing our weight gain. And so what intermittent fasting seeks to do is it seeks to teach the body how to self heal.
Frank: (07:09)
Um, there are some real significant, uh, actual studies that have shown that folks who go through periods of fasting actually end up doing a good job of helping their body heal itself. OK. um, you know, we all know about ketosis. We know that our body has to go through a process of ketosis in order to create some form of energy from existing fat that we have on our body. Okay. Um, through like fatty oxidation processes, we also know that if we go on a heavy Quito, Quito, uh, ketosis, excuse me, that we are going to be really rubbing up that fat burning engine that we have in our body at a certain point. Uh, you know, with certain types of fasts. Uh, cause I by all means would say that if you want to consider a long term fast, you don't get that information for me.
Frank: (08:00)
You go talk to people who are like medical professionals and go talk with them. So I'm only talking like little bits here and there, right? Like what we call intermittent fasting. And then there's another concept that is called, uh, you know, time restricted feeding. Um, which we do both. My, I, I, my wife practice both and I'll explain what they are. But anyway, long story short is that as you continue on this fasting pathway, your body has to go through something called gluconeogenesis, which actually is the creation of new glycogen that your body has the capability of doing. And that's after about an eight hours of not eating and then it continues on this spectrum. Okay. So where you're getting into the point where you can like your body will start identifying like, okay, I need to get rid of damaged protein. I need to like, you know, have my STEM cells turned back on.
Frank: (08:44)
And this is all for concepts for a whole nother topic or another thing where we like can get into the science of internment of the reason why people fast. And so what I've learned about my body is that I do well when I give myself at least a 12 hour period of not fasting. Now I've started to increase my, my fasting. I'm not because it's like, Oh well a little bit work. So a lot must be really good. That's totally not the case here, but I'm building myself up like you would if you were doing pushups, right? Like you start with a certain amount of pushups and overtime you should be able to do more pushups while I'm doing that same thing with intermittent fasting. And so we started off with just saying like, let's, let's just not eat for 16 hours. Okay. And so like it really became a discipline where I had to learn how to like only eat in an eight hour window.
Frank: (09:28)
So that's known as time restricted feeding. I was only giving myself an eight hour window to eat and then I was fasting for 16 hours. Okay. 24 hour day. That was working pretty well with me. Okay. But what I wanted to do is I want to take it one step further. So we started actually doing something that you can go check out. It's a, it's a uh, physician or excuse me, she's a, has a doctorate. I can remember on what, Oh. But anyway, she has this program that she calls it eat like a bear. And so what that is is it's actually a 23 hour period of not eating and then a one hour period of eating. And during that one hour period, we actually consume things that would be what you would consume on the ketogenic diet. Okay. So very low carbohydrates and all that kind of stuff.
Frank: (10:07)
It's been working really well. Like I am a person who has been fasting now like this way for two weeks and I feel a tremendous amount of energy. Like I'm still exercising. No problem. I sleep like a bear, you know, hibernating. Um, that's not been an issue with that whatsoever. And now, um, just today or actually just yesterday because I was eating at 12 to one, I stopped eating at one and I'm actually not gonna eat until tomorrow or at about one. So I'm actually doing two day fast. The reason why is because I'm really just trying to break free of that physical and emotional connection to food. And so, uh, that's just, it's been working for me. I just wanted to give you guys some information about that because it really has been like a game changer for me guys. Like I'm really feeling the understanding of like the, the, the fact that food is it like psychologically is important as we usually make it out to be.
Frank: (11:02)
Like, it's physically important. We need to have food. We gotta live. Okay. But the fact of the matter is, is that like I wanted to break free of all the slavery that food can actually create. And so I just wanted to share that with you, um, about what's been working with me and kinda like a little bit about what inner fat, intermittent fasting is all about. Um, if you guys are interested, I mean like I can get like super scientific about this and like really dive into the weeds if you're interested in it. And I would love to share with you about like all the principles behind intermittent fasting, all the research and all those sorts of things that are really coming through, um, that are showing some fantastic,
Speaker 2: (11:35)
the benefit for intermittent fasting. So I would love to share that stuff with you. So if you're interested, comment below and let me know. And, um, I would be happy to put together a webinar in which we really dive deep into the sciences. I mean like I will pull like research articles and all that kind of stuff and I would be having to eat with him. So if you're like, like me and you want to geek out, let's do it together. So let me know if you're interested in that. I will add, be happy to do a webinar just based on that. Okay. Um, but I, I offer this because intermittent fasting is like one of the many things that I like to talk about with my program. I conventional wellness, I want to let you know if you didn't catch my live, I'll put a link to that as well in the comments.
Speaker 2: (12:15)
But guys, it's closing soon. Like I'm not going to take anymore because I want to focus on those individuals who are all in and they want to do it with me. Like I was saying on my video, those of those three people that are meeting me 50%, I want to give my all to them. So if you want to get in and get my all on all this information that I would love to share with you and all this healing, then I would love to help you, help you with, you got to let me know, go onto my link that is on my page and like it and go get started with not conventional haulers. There are, there is no excuse other than I haven't explained really well as to what's going on. And I plan on doing a live tomorrow again, uh, in order to dive deep into my program so you can actually see what it's all about.
Speaker 2: (12:57)
Like maybe I haven't done that yet, but I'm going to literally show you what my program does. Okay. Um, so stay tuned for that. Please make sure that you set a reminder or get notifications and stuff like that. So when I go live, you will see a line. I will show you what my program is all about. Frank: (00:43)
powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disruptive healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey, what's going on everyone? Just trying something new in here. Um, I'm hoping that actually it is coming through. Okay. Let's see. I should be able to get through. I want to check myself to make sure that I was actually alive. All right, perfect. We actually are. All right, so anyway, I'm trying something new here. I actually wanted to bring the webinar directly to you and I wanted to talk about the burden, the burdens of our healthcare system and what can we do about it? Okay, and so I'm going to break this down into three burdens. We're going to talk about financial burdens. We're going to talk about a personal burdens, and then we're going to talk about social burdens that our healthcare system has honest.
Frank: (01:36)
Okay. Let me give you some data to start off with because I really want to put this into perspective because this is a legit issue. Okay? Then we need to get fixed. Here's the problem. Three point $5 trillion that's trillion with a T is spent on healthcare every year. That equivocates to about 18% of our gross domestic products. You're an economist. That's a lot, okay? 18% is a lot of money. Here's the thing, the that means that of all the Americans, once you take that number and you kind of divided down, that means that we are spending $10,000 in healthcare every year. Do you know what it was back in like the 19 like say sixties it was like under 500 bucks a year. Okay. Now granted, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. We have some amazing procedures. We have some amazing therapies that are doing some amazing things, but the fact of the matter is, is that health care costs are on the rise.
Frank: (02:40)
We are 60% more expensive in healthcare here in America than we are in Europe. All right? And Europe, by all means, has an amazing healthcare system as well. They're saving lives every single day like our healthcare system is, but the financial burden is real. Okay. Let's dive a little further into it to make it a little bit more personalized, if you will. When you look, excuse me, at the cost of something that is chronic preventable one out of every, all right, so you'd say about eight out of every 10 people in America, a at least one of those one chronic preventable in as well. It makes you ask the question, well, what's a chronic preventable illness? Okay, so these are things like COPT, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, um, musculoskeletal problems. Okay. They're very, very widespread. And the thing is, is that at least eight out of every 10 Americans actually experienced them.
Frank: (03:40)
Okay. At least have one of them. When they talk about the financial burden of that, over 50% of chronic illnesses correspond to that three point $5 trillion. Isn't that amazing? That chronic preventable illness is causing spikes in our gross negligence of spending money on healthcare. Okay. Here's something that's pretty amazing as sort of like the flip side of that. Do you know how much of that three point $5 trillion is spent by people that are considered healthy? 3% 3% of that amount is spent by healthy people. And so what does that really mean? Okay. Well, a lot of us want to help have that burden absorbed, right? $10,000 a month, or excuse me a year, that's not a little amount of money. Okay, so how do we absorb that burden while we just get health care, right? Like we get company derived healthcare, here's the problem. Healthcare is so stinking expensive that a lot of us can't even afford it.
Frank: (04:50)
Okay? We are paying deductibles that are monstrous. We have to pay an amount every single month just to have healthcare that it's in the thousands and God forbid we have a family with children, right? That's just gonna expend, essentially increased that. And so the financial burden of healthcare is incredible. I heard that there is a statistic. Okay. Um, by the way, I just wanted to let you know that I'm also doing this for my folks in, uh, my unconventional wellness radio podcast. I just kind of dove right in and normally I say hi, but whatever. I just wanted to get right into it because this is a legit problem. So if you know who I am, I'm prank. I'm a certified PA and working in natural and integrated healthcare for like the last 10 years, whatever. That's my quick little drop. But hello to all of you on the podcast.
Frank: (05:38)
I did just jump right in. But anyway, the cost of healthcare, getting back to it is that Americans, it is now estimated that Americans are one finance or excuse me, one medical calamity away from disaster financial disaster. Okay. Most Americans don't have more than about a thousand dollars that they access to immediately. Do you know that one in five Americans use the emergency room as their primary care per year? All right, so that's one out of five people will actually go to the emergency room for medical healthcare and we know they exceed the prices of those are going up. It's over 60% of our healthcare has actually increased over the last, like multiple decades after the in laws, like three to five decades. Our healthcare costs to go even be seen at the hospital have actually increased. So the problem is, is that we're sick and then we go to folks that we want to get better.
Frank: (06:32)
And if we don't have the expensive insurance, it's difficult for us to get better. And so it's just this downward spiral that people are going into bankruptcy, especially if they're having just a minor healthcare concern. Okay? And God forbid we have chronic healthcare illnesses. Well then we've got ourselves a real drama happening and we can really be under the burden of debt. Medical debt is a huge problem that a lot of people separate from, you know, you would think that like school debt, right? Going to school and paying for school is a type of debt that lasts for a long time. Yes, you would be correct, but medical debt is incredibly burdensome, the people. And so we need to figure out a way to be able to actually get out of this burden. By the way, a couple more quick statistics is that, um, if you have diabetes, okay, this is just one of those chronic preventable illnesses.
Frank: (07:25)
But if you have diabetes, you are guaranteed to be spending at least $27,000 per year in medical costs to help treat your diabetes. $27,000 guys. I mean, that is, uh, that's a S that's a price of a car. I mean, like you could buy a car for that. So how do we get out of this? Okay, well, I've got a solution that works over the last 10 years. I have watched myself change over the course of my career and my personal life to be able to say that lifestyle modification is key. Okay? We need to take healthcare back into our control. We need to focus on those things that we know that we can do every single day. Fighting that battle to be able to mitigate a lot of these issues that are arising. Okay? So we have got to do something about it. Well, I like to call it unconventional wellness.
Frank: (08:24)
It is my bridge program to be able to have all of the wonderful aspects of modern healthcare there when we need them, but to be able to handle the other portion, the massive portion of lifestyle modification that we can be doing every single day, fighting that battle to win that war against the craziness of health care. Okay. Personally and socially, this is also a burden and there is a problem. Personally, I lost my father at 56 years old to heart attack, a chronic preventable thing that led up to his heart attack, high blood pressure. Who knows if he had diabetes, but I wouldn't have been doubting it because he never even went to the doctor and he was a smoker. It just, all of these things over the course of years took on an issue at 56 and I lost my father. How many of you have lost a loved one because of a chronic preventable illness?
Frank: (09:19)
Okay. Socially, this is a massive burden. We're seeing these things all the time about people who are losing those that matter most in their lives because of the fact that we have this burden. Okay, so how do we beat it? Well, it's my five pillars to unconventional wellness that is in my program. Those five pillars are nutrition, movement or or sometimes I refer to it as exercise, getting better sleep, being able to remove those toxins out of your life. Okay, and then being able to combat stress and anxiety. Can I get a hallelujah for stress and anxiety? Are we stressed out these days? It is true that one out of four 18 to 25 year olds report the fact that they are actually the most oppressive they have ever been. There is something now called a quarter life crisis. Can you feel me? There are people who are undergoing depression at earlier and earlier ages.
Frank: (10:14)
Teenagers are experiencing massive bouts of depression, suicide. It's really, really sad. What? Suicide. Okay. Veterans are killing themselves. I am a veteran of the U S army. Veterans are killing themselves at a massive rate. Okay. I think I just read something that 60% of veterans actually have. I have experienced somebody that they know that is actually experienced some person who has committed suicide. These are legitimate facts that are going on and we need to fix this stuff so I have a special heart and combating stress and anxiety. It's one of my five pillars of unconventional wellness. So how does this work? All right, how does that convention wellness work? Well, you can go to the internet, you can get this stuff for free. Okay? If you are willing to be that person who wants to go and do your own research, have at it, please go to the internet.
Frank: (11:06)
There is some amazing people out there writing some amazing things and you can change yourself. Okay, well I'm going to let you know that's going to take at least 10 years. Why? Because I myself had been doing that for me personally. I have some chronic illness with me as well. I've got post traumatic stress. I've got a really bad lower back. I've got chronic knee problems. I've got high cholesterol, and so I needed to do something. I noticed that I was going down that pathway of being like following my father and his footsteps, literally. Okay. At 56 or some odd time in the future. I could see myself dying from a heart attack. I wasn't going to be another statistic. Okay. Instead I decided to take charge of my life. Now it just so happens that I'm also a physician assistant. So at the same time that I was learning about myself, I was learning about how to take care of others and that has always been a passion of mine.
Frank: (12:04)
Okay. And so I told myself, how can I do this naturally? I don't want to use medications, I don't want to use opioids. I don't want to be a statistic. How can I do this naturally? Well, I started using my physician assistant experience and I started using the experience of me being my own test dummy and starting to change my lifestyle habits. And this is what I came up with over the course of 10 years. There are two lines. There is my professional career and my personal life. Both of them married each other in terms of what I was doing at home and how I was able to talk to my patients, my friends, my colleagues, my family, and everybody else from a scientific medical aspect. Okay. And I found out that there was a lot of really great overlap. I started being able to do this stuff with my patients.
Frank: (12:55)
My patients were getting better. I was dealing with a very sick crowd in the military. You would think that they were very healthy. No, they had the same issues. You can lump them in a chronic preventable illness were still affecting my service members, my soldiers in the military. And so we had to figure out a way because guess what? You don't have to pay for healthcare in the military. It is offered as a free expense to you because you're serving. Problem is those that I didn't want them on a bunch of medications. I didn't want them on opioids and they actually did not want to be under this feeling of, I'm just having my symptoms taken care of. I'm not looking at the bigger picture. And so over the course of these 10 years, I have mastered how to be able to do that and I want to bring that to you and that's exactly what my program will do.
Frank: (13:41)
It provides the benefit of you getting away from this burdensome issue of healthcare. You can at the end of 90 days, which is how long my program is. You can check Mark the box and say, I now understand nutrition. I understand how to get better sleep. I understand I remove toxins in ways that I have never even imagined. I will download all of this information that I have gained over the last decade to you to help you understand right where you're at. Here's the best part about the program. Besides all of that, I bring it to you in a digital format. You can look at it on a smartphone. You can look at it on your desktop. You can have me right next to you as you're literally preparing your meals. Okay. You can have me right next to you in terms of what are those action steps again, to be able to say, okay, what is that I need to, uh Oh yeah, I need to be able to actually do those action steps that Frank talked about to be able to help me start getting better sleep.
Frank: (14:35)
Those action steps can be brought to you through the wonderful technological advances and the blessing of technology that we have. This is something where you would have had to go to a big fancy in person thing 20 years ago, but now that have these monitoring advances of smart phones and digital technology, I can bring this stuff to you and I am not bringing it to you for thousands of dollars. Okay? I am going to put a link in this live where you will be able to go see my enterprise program that is going to disrupt and change health care called unconventional wellness. Shownotes for today's Podcast:
Frank: (00:00)
Hey and welcome to unconventional wellness radio. I am your host, frank and I am a silly excited about today's podcast. Why? Because I can give actionable illness. The program itself is coming. It is our prelaunch week, meaning that on Friday I am going to release all the juicy details so you can get your hands on to unconventional wellness for yourself at just a ridiculous, ridiculously huge value. So stay tuned. I've got all the details on the podcast, episode 37 unconventional on US radio talk soon. Hey everyone and welcome to unconventional wellness. Radio is a powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Oh Man, I am so stupid. Excited right now. I'm my sounded like a nineties kid, I think. I guess I am.
Frank: (00:56)
Uh, anyway, welcome to the simulcast between Facebook live and my podcast on conventional wellness radio. If you are tuning in, this is my prelaunch week, meaning that launch of unconventional wellness officially is happening on next Monday, the 30th of September. But here is the deal. I am going to give a ridiculously good deal on my program and I'm going to give it to you, make sure that you listen up until the end of this podcast because you'll know and you'll get all the details in order to be able to actually see exactly what is going on. So all this week, all I am doing is just trying to pump as much information to you as I possibly can. I want to give you the entire farm for free because that's just how I am. I am so privileged to be able to understand how people work in a very natural way and how I can help promote your fitness and your wellness to levels that you have never even imagine.
Frank: (02:06)
Okay. I am so thrilled to be able to bring this to you, uh, over the last 10 years, uh, both on the patient side of the House as well as the provider side of the house. I have worked on myself and with other patient friends of mine, if you will, to figure out exactly how to do this wellness lifestyle in such a way that it actually makes sense and it helps free us from the just issues that are come around with conventional means. Okay. Once again, I am super thrilled that we live in a society where we absolutely have great modern medicine at our fingertips. I mean, people are getting cured from significant conditions and significant illnesses even as I am speaking on this podcast or on this Facebook live. So I am thrilled that we have that kind of a lifestyle. Um, excuse me, that we have that kind of a medicine to be able to do that.
Frank: (03:05)
But here's the problem. The problem is, is that we have far too many conditions that are chronic. You probably have heard me say this before, but 80% of illnesses in America that cost us trillions of dollars per year are chronic. Meaning that one, our, excuse me, that eight out of every 10 people have some form of a chronic illness, whether it be chronic musculoskeletal pain or a heart condition or diabetes, uh, just regular high blood pressure, whatever. They have a chronic preventable illness. That is the problem is that these are preventable. So we are spending trillions of dollars per year on surgeries that probably don't need to happen. Medications that don't need to be prescribed because we are choosing inappropriate lifestyles. And so now what I am going to do is bring you away to get out from all of that. If you are spending hundreds of dollars in copays and, and what seems like thousands of dollars and needless procedures and surgeries, I want to let you know that this can be for you.
Frank: (04:14)
This is a way that you can help your condition to be able to get it through the appropriate nutrition movement, getting better sleep, reducing that stress, and reducing those toxins out of your life. Folks, this stuff does in fact work. I have a lot of my own personal testimonies. I'm gonna just start with those. So my own personal testimonies are this, I have chronic back pain, chronic knee pain, chronic shoulder pain now, and also high cholesterol. And the reason why I've been able to combat those and control them in a much more therapeutic and holistic sense is because I have been attacking this for years now using the means that I have come up with, with unconventional wellness. I eat better now. I mean like I eat clean whole food. Uh, I don't feel like I'm actually like starving myself whatsoever. I mean like I'm actually eating things that are truly incredible and I feel satiated, right?
Frank: (05:17)
And I feel like I'm not missing out at all. Okay. So the Diet was like, just crucial for me. Okay. With the Diet alone that I chose, which so happened at that time, I was choosing to use the Paleolithic Diet. Um, by all means, I am not recommending any one particular diet on my program. I recommend lots of different diets depending upon what you need personally. Okay. But the Paleo Diet Lithic diet is what I felt like I needed it. And so I did a lot of research. I started to decrease the amount of grains that I ate and surprisingly enough, my cholesterol, that was like 245 okay. Total cholesterol. My LDL I think was in the two hundreds both of them definitely high through 30 days of eating Paleo, exercising the right way. I was able to drop those numbers to like in the one 60 days for total cholesterol.
Frank: (06:10)
My bad cholesterol dropped into like the 90s my good cholesterol went up, which is good because that actually protects your heart and your cardiovascular system and my ratios improved. So diet alone helped me and the funny thing is is I was eating vegetables, a little bit of fruit and meat and oils and fats, but the thing was is I was getting all of these healthy fats instead of putting my body into an inflammatory state where the cholesterol was just running rampant in my body. And so that I am just one example. Once I started omitting certain types of dairy out of my diet, I noticed that my knees were feeling better, my back was feeling better, I was able to move better and of course I was able to sleep better. And so that's just my personal testimony. I started to bring this to my very sick, active duty service members because I am a certified physician assistant that has been trained through the military working with active duty service members for a large portion of my 10 years of experience, excuse me, as a Pa and I started implementing these strategies into my 18 to 35 year olds that are serving on active duty in the U s army and I cannot begin to tell you how sick these men and women were.
Frank: (07:31)
It was incredible. Like I would think that I would just be going to deal with like, you know, acute lower back pain, right? Because like somebody strained themselves during physical training. No, these soldiers were like having massive blockages of the coronary arteries in their hearts. They were coming to me with like chronic knee pain that had been dealing with for 10 years. They were coming with like blood pressures that were out of control. I was having folks that had strokes at like the age of 30 they had diabetes at the age of 25. I mean I was really overwhelmed when I first started practicing as an active duty pa because I was like, why am I seeing this light? Like I should be seeing this in like 45 55 65 year old folks and I'm seeing it as early as 2125 30 and uh, it was just incredible to see how truly sick some of my soldiers actually were.
Frank: (08:24)
And so what I did was I started to implement while I was learning all of these different ways of what was working for my body, I started to talk to my patients and say, you know what? Let's start working for this. It's why I have case studies. Numerous case studies of like folks that were bought in, right? They bought in, they started eating better, they started moving better. Then I started getting them better sleep. I took them through all my action steps on how to get better sleep. I took them through all the different ways to be able to combat the stress and anxiety because you know in the military that just runs rampant, not just post traumatic stress but just stress and anxiety in general, right? Like just by the nature of the job in which we are expected to do. And then lastly, all the toxins, so like we're talking like cigarettes, smoking and energy drinks and being exposed to different toxins in the barracks and things like that.
Frank: (09:15)
And I was able to work through these things through time to see all of my chronic patients and I started noticing that my caseload started becoming less and less and less because how it works in the military is that you do active duty, sick call, excuse me, you do sick call for folks that are acutely sick. That's the word I actually meant to say instead of active, but acutely sick in the morning, we call that sick call and then throughout the rest of the day after say nine or 10 in the morning, we start seeing all of our follow ups and then we started seeing our chronic stuff in the afternoon. While it was really surprising that like by one or two in the afternoon or it wasn't surprising by one or two in the afternoon, once folks started actually buying in to the ability of healing their own body, that I started noticing that my chronic illness folks were starting to just drop off because they were not being chronically sick anymore.
Frank: (10:06)
Okay. Because we were working through these issues and working through the baby steps and then I just noticed a massive change in them. Okay. And so I just want to let you know this stuff works. Okay. And a lot of these chronic illnesses were just going away. I mean, yeah, they would have flares from time to time, but by and far they were just going away. Okay. Through all the different means that we were doing. And that's what I now need to bring to you. And so this week is the beginning of the launch of unconventional wellness. I've just, I've sat on it for too long. I'm tired of waiting and I got to bring it to you. Okay. It is a 90 day course of empowering you to real and holistic change, the natural change that you have always been looking for. I bring it to you in 90 days.
Frank: (10:52)
It is set up to be a transformational program starting you on day one. It gives you all the information on layout, sort of the 30,000 foot view of everything that you're going to be looking at, all of the material that you're going to be working through, which is not unbelievably overwhelming, but it progresses you through these baby steps to be able to take you from day one today 90 and there to actually be transformation in your mindset, to know what you need to do to get yourself on being healthy. Okay? And so that's what I want to bring to you is it is essentially here. I am going to, I'll release it to the world this Friday so you will be able to get your hands on my program unconventional wellness. It's five modules that correspond with my five pillars of unconventional wellness, one being nutrition.
Frank: (11:41)
Then we talk about movement because I really don't like the word exercise. You'll see, I'll talk more about that. And in the program number three is how to get better sleep. All of my methods to be able to help you get quality sleep. Uh, number four is how to reduce the stress and anxiety because stress and anxiety can absolutely be the linchpin that you do all these things and then like you're still stressed out and you're anxious about everything. You will not notice any actual change in your wellness because mental health and mental wellness really plays a huge factor on your physical health as well. So we talk about that in depth. And then lastly is how to remove toxins. We talk about mental toxins, emotional toxins, physical toxins, and even social toxins. We talk about all the different ways to be able to combat and reduce those things.
Frank: (12:29)
We talk about problems with our food and our water. Um, excuse me, how to be a smart shopper, you know, all of those sorts of things. Okay. And then so it's five modules delivered over the course of 90 days in order to take you and B make you become a wellness warrior. And so I am so unbelievably excited. Um, I am just going to let you know that I will drop this on Friday. It is coming in five days, starting today on Friday, let fall. Let's fall into wellness. Okay, let's get ourselves right and not be slaves to conventional means anymore. I want to help you. This is my passion. This is my goal in life is to get you healthy and gets you well. Let your body do what your body has been designed to do, which is heal itself through the proper nutritional all the way up through toxin load issues.

Shownotes for today's podcast:
Frank: (00:00)
I know I am not alone with saying that our modern healthcare system here in America is broken. Uh, can I get a witness? Can I get an amen? Raise your hand if you agree with me because we need a lifestyle modification now more than ever. And that's what unconventional wellness sets out to do through it's five pillars of unconventional wellness. Stay tuned. I've got a special announcement for all of my listeners out there, episode 36 coming at you very momentarily unconventional on this radio. I'm frank. We'll catch you very soon. Hey everyone, and welcome to unconventional wellness radio. It's a powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat. That'd be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey everyone. Good morning and welcome to a new week and welcome to our simulcast.
Frank: (00:55)
I just loved that word between Facebook and my podcast. Unconventional one is radio. I am super thrilled and the reason why I'm getting started so early on this Monday morning is because unconventional wellness is almost here. Matter of fact, I'm going to just drop it right now. I am lodging unconventional wellness next week. Yes, it is being launched next week. There is going to be an introductory price and this introductory price will not be seen seven days after I launch it, so it'll drop Monday and then the following Monday the price is going to go up. Let me tell you about what unconventional wellness is. Okay. Is My enterprise flagship program. It is the thing that I have worked for for the last 10 years. I have worked as a physician assistant working with active duty service members, figuring out how I can actually bring in natural wellness and integrated practice to light.
Frank: (02:04)
I am sick and tired of conventional means. They just don't always work. We have lots of side effects. We have lots of problems that come along with it. With that being said, I love the fact that we have modern lifesaving practices and procedures that are done every single day. I mean, people are living through heart attacks, which is incredible. They're living through cancer, which is incredible, but the fact of the matter is is that 80% of chronic illness is preventable. Let me say that again. 80% of chronic illness is avoidable and preventable with good nutrition, being active, getting great sleep, reducing your stress and making sure that you remove toxins out of your life and that is exactly what unconventional wellness is set to help to you. It is going to revolutionize your thoughts, your thinking, your education, and being able to apply these things in your life in order to get the results that you've always wanted.
Frank: (03:13)
This is something that is going to change your life for good. There will be no more worries about opioid addictions and having to be on these longterm medications that cause side effects that we're finding out more about. Matter of fact, there was one, it's a a medication that is used for individuals who suffer from reflux issues and they're now finding out that not necessarily the medication but the process in which it is being created as causing people to get sick. So I am absolutely over doing things that are just not necessary. So like let's get back down to basics. Let's get a lifestyle that we need and let's stop working toward justice funk that we got ourselves in. Okay. And so anyway, unconventional wellness seeks to teach all of those things. So by the time that you leave the program, you will be transformed. You will understand how to sift through all of this information that is out there and be able to actually make those choices to change your life in a very dramatic and personalized way.
Frank: (04:31)
When you go through this program, we are going to make this about you. You are going to be able to choose your path, if you will. I think of it like the oldest books I'm going to date myself, but I remember these books that I used to read that I could like flip to page 63 if you want to do this or flip the page 37 if you wanted to do that. So I'm going to liken it to like a choose your own adventure book. But the good news is is that you can make good choices. There are no bad outcomes and so I am going to empower you with everything that I have learned over the course of the last 10 years, honestly, 10 years plus, but being able to make sure that I come to you through whatever media that you want to be able to watch me and so whether it be a tablet or a smartphone or a computer, I will be able to literally be right there in your living room and your bedroom wherever you need me to be on the screen in order to be able to provide that information that you need when you need it.
Frank: (05:28)
We're going to go through five modules. We've got modules, separate attrition. We've got module set for a how to move better. We've got modules how to sleep better. We've got modules on how to reduce those toxins and how to reduce stress and anxiety. Listen folks, if you are 18 to 25 or we can even expand that to even 30 or 35 you are reporting now that one out of every four, sometimes even two out of every four individuals within that age demographic are the most lonely that they have ever been. Does that make any sense that we are more connected through this type of technology now but yet we are more distant one one another than we have ever been and so I seek to help individuals understand that you are not alone, that there is a community of people around you who love you and who want the best for you.
Frank: (06:25)
And so we seek to solve all of these problems as we go through this program. There is not just one problem. Ultimately that is going to be solved. There are many micro problems and many baby steps that we will be going through in order to understand this big picture of wellness and being able to actually have this wellness for good. You will be able to have accountability partners. And we've built in a, you know, the tribe. We're going to be all known as wellness warriors. We're going to be helping one another out and talking about the good, the bad, and the ugly of what has been going on with our lives. And so I am unbelievably thrilled because this has been a journey that has felt like it's lasted a lifetime. I'll tell you the story just really fast one more time about how this sort of came to be is that, uh, you know, we, we're now in a, in a lifestyle of knowing that we want to get better with our lifestyle, but we just don't quite know how to do it.
Frank: (07:33)
We have what is called analysis paralysis. So like, we don't understand all of the information that is out there. There is some wonderful information, but we just don't know where to start. And so what did it, what it makes us do is we just get stuck and we say like, this is just not for me. This is not gonna work. This is not going to happen. There is no way that I'm going to be able to start anything cause I don't even know what to start. And so what we're going to do is help you get empowered to be able to move forward. Whether it be leaps and bounds, if you want to do that or whether it be a baby step, right? If you have been unhealthy now for the last decade, don't expect it in a week, you're going to feel better, right? But what I will do is I will help lay out the path in front of you.
Frank: (08:18)
Hey Robin, how are you this morning I am going to lay out the path for you and I am going to help you understand how to navigate walk that path. I will be right there with you. Okay? And so it is going to be a journey, but I'm telling you right now the destination is going to be life changing. Okay? And so I wanted to say all that because I want to tell you the story of sort of how this came to bait. I, let's just rewind the clock a Oh gosh, let's rewind the clock. About 20 years ago. Okay. Um, on the eve of after nine 11 in 2001, I my father to a heart attack, uh, I lost him at 56 years of age who was 56 year ago years old when he had a heart attack and this was like a massive heart attack.
Frank: (09:03)
There was no way that he was going to survive this thing. Okay. Perform CPR on him for like 20 minutes or whatever. And so once he passed away, I went into a significant amount of depression. Okay. That's significant amount of depression led to comfort eating. Right. So like drank a lot, ate a lot, gained a bunch of weight, felt terrible for myself. I needed to do something. Okay. It just so happens that I also was the only member of the family who had not served in the military. So by the time that I actually graduated, because I graduated just shortly after that, in December of that same year, I decided I needed to do something. Okay. Surprisingly enough, I graduated with the degree that allowed me to get a job at a gym. But I was at this gym, I was like 50 pounds overweight. And somehow some way somebody took a shot on me and decided that I should be a personal trainer.
Frank: (09:54)
Well, not only did I want to be a product of the product, but I wanted to be able to coach people in such a way that I knew under, I understood what was going on as well. Now, I worked on a lot in college, right? I worked out a lot in college and um, and I was able to understand the concepts of working out okay. And so anyway, I started to apply that stuff. I became an instructor of different things like spinning and different types of like exercise routines that we would do in the gym, whether it'd be like hit training or stuff like that. I became certified in these things. And so I started dropping the weight, but at the same time I still had this knock in the back of my mind that said, you still need to go join the military. And so I decided to drop everything I was making.
Frank: (10:35)
Like guys, I was making good money, um, money that you, anybody would've been satisfied with as a 22 or 23 year old. I was making like almost 10 grand a month back in the ninth, uh, back in the early two thousands. So like I would have been relatively satisfied, but I wanted something more. And so I went and I joined the military, uh, particularly because of nine 11. And so I needed to drop even more weight of course, so I could, I could join the military because I was overweight at the time. So anyway, I really about it myself to great eating and dropping the weight and getting, um, the, the fitness that I needed to be able to join the military basic training because of all of that was a breeze. And so like I was just, I was very, very fit because I listened to a lot of my mentors at that time in order to how to get myself really, really fit.
Frank: (11:23)
And so anyway, I joined the military, went through basic training, became an officer actually, uh, about a year later. And, uh, and then I found myself in, in uh, Korea for a year. I found myself in Iraq for a year, um, because I wanted to deploy because of nine 11. And so anyway, I shadowed a PM, always wanted to be in medicine if you guys have known me since maybe middle school or even high school, I've always wanted to work in medicine in some form or fashion. And so I shadowed a PA and I said, this is for, and so I applied to physician assistant school through the military, graduated from physician assistant school. I've been now I've been a PA for about 10 years. And uh, and so I started working with active duty service members. But here was where I went from my personal triumphs and my personal tribulations to having triumphs with individuals and integrative health.
Frank: (12:14)
I had to figure out how can I have these active duty service members still be able to perform their jobs without the side effects of medication. Like I had guys and gals who had chronic pain, I had guys and Gals who had chronic illness and a lot of the medications that are still being written even today cause side effects. They may make you drowsy, they may make you not as like acute in awareness as you need to be. They may actually cause side effects of like wanting to eat more. Right and so all of these were negative outcomes that I could not have in my active duty population. And so I had to get creative. I started mentoring with a chiropractor. He and I were able to significantly reduce chronic neck pain, shoulder pain, back pain, knee pain without the use of heavy pharmacologic medications.
Frank: (13:10)
I was able to give them a little tiny bit of like some anti-inflammatories. He would do his business and we were taking folks on it on the daily from like a nine out of 10 pain. We were dropping them to like a two by the time they left our clinic, not even an hour and a half, two hours later. And so that really created a fire in me to say, if I can do this with a chiropractor, what other means do we have out there to be able to really help our active duty population? And so I started working closely with, um, physical therapists and occupational therapists. People were getting trained in acupuncture. I had an anesthesiologist who also believed in natural medicine. Uh, she was an MD. She was trained in, uh, anesthesia and she wanted to learn how to do, uh, uh, natural medicine as well.
Frank: (13:59)
And so she learned a practice called battlefield acupuncture is what it's known as today. And so I started building these mentors and started building this rapport with eastern philosophies and eastern medicine that I was able to bring to my active duty service population. And surprisingly are, I should say, not that surprisingly, once they started understanding my lifestyle routines, people started gaining healthier. My clinic became like, where I was just seeing people who were acutely sick. Like the way that it works in the military is like you do sick call, right? And so from like one to sometimes three to four hours you're seeing sick people like you're seeing gastroenteritis and you're seeing, um, I tripped and sprained and hurt my ankle and you're seeing like I have a cult, right? So you see that stuff that's sick call. So I stopped seeing all of this chronic illness and sick call.
Frank: (14:55)
I was able to focus on them in my clinic during the day and my clinic or my sick call was starting to become less because people were getting healthier and not sick as often. And then my chronic workload started becoming less as well for those individuals who are actually following this lifestyle. And once again, it became a lifestyle of eating right. Getting exercise because you had to work out anyway, but getting the right type exercise while you were serving a, being able to get better sleep because I don't know about you, but active duty service members sleep like trash. Okay? They love to stay up real late. And then they got to get up really early to go to [inaudible], excuse me, physical training the next morning, but they were sleeping like garbage. And then the counteract that, what did they do? And they smoked and they drank a lot of energy drinks.
Frank: (15:44)
And so, um, I started being able to really dive into this and I started getting actually healthy soldiers out of this. And so my, my um, just my situations, my experience and everything like that really lended itself towards understanding this now from a provider aspect. Okay. And so now I do it on the daily, again, I am helping people every single day with understanding these same philosophies that I have used time and time again over the course of the last decade. And so I now want to bring that to you. Okay. The only way that I can bring that to you is being able to actually dive into your computer and meeting you where you're at. Okay. I can charge thousands of dollars for seminars that you would have to pay to fly out to a place and me be able to give you this information. But now I want to do it for a fraction of that.
Frank: (16:38)
Being able to bring it directly into your home. And so I have built this really robust program that is super interactive. It has downloadables embedded into it so you can follow along. It has these videos that are 20 minutes or less inside of it and other action steps that I call out in order for you to be able to start putting this stuff in place quickly. Okay. It's dripped out because I think that if I was to like give you the whole elephant and say, alright, in 90 days eat this thing, I don't think you would be able to do that. Right. Cause it's taken me a while to be able to actually do the same thing. And so I drip it out to you over the course of about, I think it's like 12 weeks or something like that in order to graduate you from your understanding of what you know now to an understanding of being able to discover all of the different new like articles and, and all these topics that you hear about on the, uh, on the Internet and on the news and all that kind of stuff.
Frank: (17:42)
Of course my wife is in here giving me lots of luck. Thanks bag with all of the likes and the loves. I appreciate that by the way, if you're not my wife, if you wouldn't mind giving me likes and loves as well, that would be really awesome. I'd appreciate that. Um, but anyway, um, being able to uh, to change and transform people is exactly what this program is all about. And so anyway, um, I start our, excuse me, I finish where I started and I'm letting you know that this program is dropping for its launch or I should say pretty much whatever that fancy term is. It is dropping next week. I will be giving it to you as a unbelievably, oh, it was my daughter that's watching me high bay. Um, anyway, uh, I will be dropping it for a significantly huge discount for you, so you will be able to actually have it for a fraction of the price.
Frank: (18:37)
Um, and so, um, I bring that to you because after that week is up, the price is going to go up because the value of this program is worth, gosh, I mean, I'm not just throwing a number out there. I have seen similar programs like that and they start at probably like a thousand, right? Or they started like probably like 1500 to 2000. There's coaching programs, there's people, there's health coaches out there right now who are charging like $2,000 for stuff like this. You're not going to pay that. Okay? I want to bring fitness and wellness and health to you right where you're at for a fraction of the cost. Because I don't want this to be something that is like insane. Okay? Health, good health is for everyone. We all need to be healthy because not only does your life depend upon it that people depend upon you and they want you to be around for many, many, many years.
Frank: (19:28)
Okay? And so that's exactly what I want you to do is I want you to understand how to focus on natural health to be able to really help you so you can continue to do the great work that is for you, that, that, that you know, you have been blessed to be able to do while you're alive because there is a purpose for you. Okay. And I just want to make sure that the health and the wellness of your life is not something that distraction from being able to fulfill that. Okay. And so anyway, like I said, it's coming next week. Um, stay tuned. If you're not on our, uh, distribution list for say emails, please make sure that, uh, I will put a link in the comments below so you can actually get that. It also has a copy of my free five days sleep challenge that you can download posted to a window or your refrigerator or whatever and be able to actually start trying to get good sleep starting tonight.
Frank: (20:23)
Um, so, uh, please check that out as well. And so I will drop that link there. If you're not a part of my podcast. I have some really, uh, great information on there about like, Gosh, everything. I mean, like we talk all the five pillars. We talk about nutrition and movement. I bring, I have an acupuncturist that I brought on the show. I have the Paleo cardiologist, Dr Jack Wolfson, who I brought on show, Dr Edwin McDonald, who is a gastroenterologist who, uh, who was out at the University of Chicago, um, who does a lot of great things with his patients and teaching them how to eat better. Um, so I bring all of these individuals onto the program. I have a bunch of things that I have just dumped onto the podcast as well, so I'll make sure that I put that down below as well. So, but get ahold of the newsletter because we're going to make sure that the individuals who know about that first are going to be through the newsletter.
Frank: (21:14)
So please join onto the newsletter, um, because I'll be giving tidbits that will only be the individuals around the newsletter as well. So I think that's it. Um, I hope you have a very blessed and wonderful week. And uh, I am just counting down the days, uh, literally it's on less than two hands down. So, um, this is something that is just progress and it's been such a journey and I'm so excited and I think you guys are gonna just be blown away because I have put my heart and soul into this thing and it's a really beautiful, uh, very easy flowing program that is just so user friendly and I'm just so excited to be able to finally bring it to you. So anyway, um, until then I am frank, if you're listening to us on the podcast, awesome. Have a wonderful week. Uh, make sure that you, oh, one more quick thing, I apologize, but I am doing a giveaway the very first day of my launch, which will be next week.
Frank: (22:11)
It will be incredible. And so if you want to be a part of that giveaway, either do or excuse me, do one of three things, or actually I should say do all three things in order to get yourself into the drawing for that giveaway. Then I'm going to do on the very first day that I launched this, okay? What you do is this. If you're listening to our podcast, uh, leave me a rating, leave me a review. Unfortunately, it's gotta be a five star and the reason why he says, because I don't want you to just simply five-star rape me, but I want the podcast to be able to be delivered to more people. And that's just how the algorithm in iTunes works, is that you gotta have really good ratings and reviews. That way they'll actually market you some more people can actually find it.
Frank: (22:51)
So please leave me a five star rating and review. Leave me a comment that says, I would like you to talk about this on your program because I'm always looking for new ways to be able to benefit you, my listeners, I want to make sure that I'm bringing you that material and that content that you want. Okay? So that's number one. Number two is share the podcast, okay? Or share this video. Um, please do that as well. If you could share this video on your wall, on your story, whatever, please share it. The last thing is, is um, if you are on the, on the Facebook side, please leave me a rating and review on there as well, because that will also get the word out about unconventional wellness. Because I feel that this is a gift that we could give to people that is just life changing and it's going to be really awesome for folks. So, um, please just do that as well. So those three things, knock those out. You will be put into the drawing on Monday. I will announce it probably on a Facebook live or a podcast, probably both. Again, and I will let you know that you have won the free giveaway. So anyway, until then, have a wonderful week. Get the word out. Please share this and let others know that unconventional wellness is almost here. So anyway, take care. Have a wonderful day, have a wonderful week, and we will talk to you very soon. Bye guys.

Here are the show notes from today's podcast:
Frank: (00:00)
Hey everyone, and welcome to unconventional wellness. Radio is a powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat. That'd be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey, what's up on conventional walk on this and what is up to you that are listening in on my podcast, I'm doing another simulcast between my Facebook page and then also on our podcast. So let me explain what this episode slash live is going to be all about. So I'm going to do a quick wrap up on all things that have been content. The reason why is because, um, honestly I've felt a bit like a content machine and I know that it might be a lot to consume. And so I just wanted to let you know about all of the great resources and all of the things that I've created and what's available to you for really being a fan and really being a part of this page and being a part of this podcast.
Frank: (01:00)
So let's just dive right in and let's talk about all of the things that I actually have on the podcast. So first of all, if you're not on my podcast, make sure you get on it because I have 34 episodes of just stuff that I've tried to chock full and make it very, very convenient for you to get, you know, anywhere between say a 20 minute and sometimes a 40 or 45 minute episode that you can listen to on the car while you're on the go or maybe exercising or what have you. And I wanted to, uh, just highlight some of the podcasts that we've done in the past that had been really great. So I kind of took a bit of a break and ended up, I guess looking at it as a season break. I did 22 episodes and then I've taken a break since and now I've done another like 12 and I probably will end up taking a break from season two, sometime around Christmas because I just, you know, I dunno, maybe I will.
Frank: (01:58)
Maybe I won't. I don't know. But, um, I'm kind of on my second season right now with my podcast and it's, ah, it's doing really great. It's helping a lot of folks. I know that and uh, and I just wanna to make sure that you are aware of the things that were on it. So some of the episodes that I truly enjoy are, uh, one of my best episodes is talking about heart healthiness with the a the dash diet and the Mediterranean diet. Now this is a, a far cry from, you know, what you may know myself and my wife went with the Paleo Diet, but I wanted to talk about all these other diets as well. The ones that are very well researched and actually are pretty effective. So, um, that is definitely one of my better episodes that I truly had enjoyed. Um, we've also talked to the Paleo cardiologist, a gentleman by the name of Dr Jack Wolfson.
Frank: (02:47)
He wrote a book called the Paleo cardiologist. He is a board certified, uh, physician MD that practices I believe now out in Arizona. And he, uh, came onto the podcast and we talked about how to naturally help with clean eating and, uh, being able to, uh, do things like talk about the, the healthier versions of cholesterol, the laboratories that he recommends as a, as a cardiologist and how he has changed his ways into more natural house. So that was a really fun episode to do. Uh, we also had talked about some water perils and things like that. Talked about some food perils, you know, some foods to avoid this summer. We also had an acupuncturist on the podcast by the name of Jim Rohr and uh, that was a really great conversation because acupuncture I think has been the thing that has been a very, very good breakthrough for me.
Frank: (03:46)
Um, I had used acupuncture in the past, had some decent results and now I've really sprung myself back in to acupuncture and it has been just absolutely fantastic. Uh, one other guests that we've had on the, on the series so far has also been a gastroenterologist, uh, who is a buddy of mine now up in Chicago. And he's fantastic. The reason why is because he did a phenomenal job of creating a kitchen, if you will. So like what he does is he works up at the University of Chicago. He is a professor and a teacher up there and uh, [inaudible], excuse me, he has created his own blog that talks about different types of healthy meal options and things like that. So that was a lot, a lot of fun. Um, he is extremely easy to listen to. A got a face. Uh, he's got a, he's got a, a, a voice for radio, excuse me.
Frank: (04:43)
Um, I am the one that has the face for radio, but he has a voice for Radio and uh, Dr Edmund Ha is just fantastic. Listen to, um, so please check out that episode as well. One of the other ones that I did early on was also talking about intermittent fasting and, and uh, Gosh, just super foods and all that kind of stuff. So if you haven't checked out the podcast, please go look at the podcast. There's a really great episode even I'm looking at my episode list on, uh, supporting the recovery journey from PTSD. So, um, maybe you are one of the lucky ones and you haven't had to experience a traumatic event, but maybe you've got somebody in your life that actually has. And so that might be a really great episode for you to also check out. And then I of course tell my story, it's another episode where I tell my story about how I've overcome PTSD through what I now call unconventional wellness.
Frank: (05:40)
And so it is a really a cool little podcast. I enjoy it. I try to make sure that we give you guys the best information possible at your fingertips and, uh, and I will be happy to also, um, listen to any of the comments that you have or any of the ratings that you have or the, the questions that you may have or really honestly even just podcast ideas. And so, um, I got one that I'll be doing here in a little bit, uh, probably in a week or so. Excuse me, about, uh, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD and being able to naturally support ADHD. So I promise I will get to that episode. Uh, probably by the end of the month. So I also have a really great thing going on. I've got a, uh, uh, current giveaway. Um, this giveaway is going to be pretty awesome.
Frank: (06:33)
The reason why is because, uh, it is, uh, pretty much going to be a really great way for you to get my program for a vast, crazy reduced price. So, um, definitely wanna check that out. It's completely free, uh, for you to enter. How do you enter? Well, you go on and you [inaudible] excuse me. You will leave me a rating and review. You will come on to my, uh, Facebook page and you can leave me a recommendation, uh, and then also make sure that you share my podcast with a friend. So please do that as well. All right, so everything that is going on in the podcast world, that's that. Let's go ahead and shift on over to the Facebook sidewall. The Facebook page is growing. I love the fact that we are reaching people with our lives. There's a ton of content on there as well.
Frank: (07:19)
Um, I have discussed, uh, anxiety busting things I've discussed. Oh Gosh, I mean, just so many different things related to nutrition, getting better sleep, removing toxins out of your life, uh, getting better movement, all that kind of stuff. So we talked about all of that. Okay. Um, the reason why I want you to check out the Facebook pages because it gets a lot of, uh, personal testimony of mine and sort of like the [inaudible], excuse me, the brainchild of as to where unconventional wellness came from, which brings me into my largest, most awesome announcement that I have, uh, for this podcast. And W that that announcement is the fact that my flagship enterprise program is nearing completion. I know that I've been talking about it, what seems to be for ever. The reason why is because I wanted to make sure that it was going to be revolutionary.
Frank: (08:14)
And so, um, it's still changing, it seems like by the week. But here's the good news is that a huge amount of content is available in what I like to call the five pillars of unconventional wellness. And these are the lifestyle choices that I want to educate you on in order to be able to, for you to implement them into your life as soon as possible so you can start seeing legitimate and real change. My program is a 90 day program. Uh, it is transformational in nature. It is going to take you through some modules and things like that, uh, to help improve your nutrition, to help improve your, uh, your movement routines, your uh, getting better sleep tricks and tips and um, toxins and even how to combat stress and anxiety. Cause I know how terrible that is in today's age. So it's all there and it's all there for you and it is coming extremely soon.
Frank: (09:09)
I am launching it very, very soon. We are like, I just, I mean seriously like if I was like with nat, if I work in NASA, we are within the window if you will. Um, we are definitely launching in here very soon, so I just wanted you to be aware of that. There will be links and all that kinda good stuff that you can check it out here shortly. Um, I just, I'm thrilled with it. I, I it's helped others. I'm getting testimonials back now that, uh, it has just been a life and game changer for people and I am, I don't know, humbled and, and excited and ready to go onto this journey with you because, uh, you know, it's just a shame that there are so many preventable chronic illnesses that we are dealing with. And the reason why is because of a lack of a healthy lifestyle.
Frank: (10:00)
You know, I, uh, I often said to my patients, uh, you know, if somebody's tore their rotator cuff back and say the 13 hundreds, you know, what did they do about it? Right. So let's just think about that for a second. Was there surgeons back then? I mean, there may, there may have been people who had actually performed things for people, but not anything like the orthopedic surgeons of today. You know, like you can't go in there and essentially repair a rotator cuff and make it where it's almost as good as new. I mean, you just can't do that in the 13 hundreds. And so, you know, people just kind of dealt with it, right? And so they changed their lifestyles. Um, another thing is, is that, you know, you didn't see very many folks who had, uh, probably lots and lots of heart conditions that had to be taken care of by all of these lengthy procedures.
Frank: (10:47)
Right? Um, instead the lifestyle I would offer to you, it was probably different, you know, there were a lot more active. Um, the, the nutrition was a lot different. They didn't have nearly as many processed foods as they do today if they had any processed foods at all because I'm thinking about the Middle Ages, right? And so, um, the, the lifestyle that we now know of is very well studied. Uh, the American diet is one that is not one to be proud of. It is lacking in nutrient value. The, a lot of the foods that we eat are not nutrient dense. And so we are filling ourselves with empty calories and not getting the benefit of real clean food. And so, uh, you know, all these food bloggers and different folks that have come up with different diet plans. And stuff like that are doing exceptionally well in just rehashing out a very old concept of clean eating.
Frank: (11:40)
And so, um, a lot of these diets, that's actually what we talk about. We talk about the consumption of a lot more vegetables. I'm not necessarily making you a Vegan or vegetarian. Um, if you do eat meat protein or animal protein, excuse me. But what I do discuss in my program is a lot more of a plant forward diet and a bunch of ways that we can incorporate, uh, you know, more plant material in our diets because, uh, one uh, gentleman or one doctor that I saw from the Johns Hopkins University says that we probably get about 40 to 50% of the normal dietary fiber that we're supposed to get in a day, which is not that great whatsoever. And that's a reason why, you know, we get all excited when we see the dietary fiber as a way to mitigate the high levels of cholesterol that we might have.
Frank: (12:27)
But the thing is is because you know, we're eating this super processed diet and then on top of that we're not needing a lot of fiber and you can see that that sets us up for failure. So, um, diet and nutrition, I don't like the word Diet. Diet is just kind of whatever weed in the name, but the nutrition on the aspect is a completely different story. And so anyway, that is crucially important. It's critically important that we actually look at nutrition because that will play a huge role in better health. And so all of these foundational lifestyle pillars, if you will build ourselves this building of optimal fitness and optimal wellness. And so I am just super excited to be able to bring this to you. Um, I've been working really, really hard on it to try and make it really, really easy for you to digest and to be able to start using.
Frank: (13:14)
Um, it's taking at least 10 years of experience and, and practice, uh, to the forefront and being able to tell you that this stuff actually works. And when you change your lifestyle, you could change your life. And so I am super excited it is coming. So make sure that you stay tuned to that. I will put a link for a free five day sleep challenge here in the comments. And so if you're checking out in this live, please make sure that you grab yourself a copy of that free five day sleep challenge because it is important for overall health. And so I really want to make sure you grab a copy of that. So check that out in the comments for any of you other guys. Frank: (14:04)

Frank: (00:00)
Do you feel like you're a slave to food? Well, there's a lot of us out there. We all feel that we emotionally eat, whether it be good, bad, or indifferent. Well, this is all a mindset that's related to our nutrition. And on today's episode we're going to talk about a diet plan that was created in 2009 that will help you change your mindset in 30 days. Join us on this episode 34 of unconventional wellness and we'll talk about the whole 30 diet. Talk to you guys soon. Hey everyone, and welcome to unconventional wellness radio as a powerful and inspiring podcast, such a revolutionize and disruptive healthcare. It's time to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Everyone, and welcome to today's podcast and Facebook live. I am so thrilled that you're joining us, uh, today, but I'm, what I'm not so thrilled about is unfortunately all of the chaos that is happening off of the coast of Florida.
Frank: (01:01)
Our thoughts and prayers are going out to those folks that are been directly affected by Hurricane Dorian. In The Bahamas. And we are definitely thinking about friends and family and folks that we may not even know that are going to be affected throughout the Florida coast all the way up into what looks like this thing might be gone all the way up in like Virginia. And so we're, you know, thinking and praying for all those folks that are going to be directly affected by the hurricane. Um, if you are a vacuum or anything, which most places are, we just, you know, ask that to evacuated safely and that you stay safe and then you come back and be able to put things back together. Excuse me, as hopefully a stress free and anxious free as you possibly can. But, uh, we are not, we're not, I don't know if it's just with a heavy heart that we hate to see natural disasters.
Frank: (01:49)
And so our thoughts and prayers are all out for all of you guys. Um, but on another note, if we could, let's talk about something nutrition today, right? Um, if you may or may not have been exposed to it, but since 2009, a a bloggers slash real food advocate by the name of Melissa Hartwig Egg, uh, started a revolution with her then husband, uh, Dallas and it, it, it has evolved into something really huge. Okay. And on today's podcast and Facebook live, we're going to talk about the whole 30, um, extremely simple to discuss the whole 30, but performing it and then being able to make sure that you set yourself up for success. That's what I wanna do. I want to give you a bunch of tips and tricks that, uh, my wife and I have followed in order to be able to really get the most out of this particular diet play.
Frank: (02:45)
Now I say it's a diet plan, but really to be honest with the lasts about 30 days, but this is the purpose of the whole 30, is that it's self experimentation. It's an elimination style diets. So what you're trying to do is you're trying to eliminate a, uh, non whole and processed foods out of your diet over the course of a 30 day period. It's only 30 days, which is what Melissa states all over her website. And so, uh, since 2009, so about 10 years now, lots and lots of whole 30 graduates are saying that it's just been a life changing diet. And so we wanted to talk a little bit about the nuts and bolts of the whole 30 and then how can you get yourself started? And I know the holidays are coming up and it might be the last thing from your mind that you're thinking about.
Frank: (03:31)
Do I want to restrict certain types of foods, uh, in the next say 90 days? But this might be something that, you know, you come back, you check out this podcast, you check out this Facebook live when January happens because that is the wonderful month of resolutions. And so a lot of people actually kick off their brand new year with a whole 30. And so, um, I just want to kind of set the stage for that and, uh, and give you as much tips as I possibly can in reference to that. Okay. So the first thing is, is that, uh, with the whole 30, it is a very much a mindset. Okay? You need to have this mindset of like, I'm going to go into this, I'm going to kick it's, but it's not going to kick my butt and we're going to crush it.
Frank: (04:16)
Okay? Um, the good news is, is that you've got a, uh, hey, what's up Chaz? How are Ya? So, uh, you've got a really great chance to be able to like drive out all of this terrible eating and be able to actually, uh, do it for good. Okay? So the first thing that I want you to understand is that there is something that is sort of known in the whole 30 sphere for the first three to five days. When you get started, there is something that is sort of like a fog, right? It's sort of a detoxification that's happening. And so if you've been eating a lot of hole, or excuse me, non whole processed foods, when you remove those, you might have this like kind of sense of fog. Okay. And that's okay. What'd you do? Is You power through it. You make sure that you stay on the Diet plan, you make sure you drink plenty of water, get those out of your system and you continue to move on.
Frank: (05:06)
So that's one thing. And then by the time that you actually hit like daylight, gosh, for us it was like day five through day 30. It was just smooth sailing. I mean, like it was great because we had changed our ways. We had been really thinking about how to be intentional with this diet and uh, and it was really, really great. Okay. And so, um, you know, you'll catch wind and it'll sort of like be this like Kinda slow start and then all of a sudden you'll just kinda hit that stride and you'll be okay for the next 30 days. And at the end of the 30 days, I'll tell you why you're gonna feel phenomenal because you did it, you knew that you could do it. And for those 30 days, you have revolutionized the way that you feel about food. Because let's face it, folks, if you're with me, give me lights, give me loves and let me know.
Frank: (05:51)
Like, is food your enemy? Are you frenemies with food? Like food does not need to dominate our lives. Okay. When it comes to wanting to eat right and wanting to maintain good health, we do not want to be a victim or a slave to food. Um, we often find food in various emotional states. Uh, if we're super depressed or anxious, what do we usually do? We eat okay. If we're super depressed or anxious, what do we turn to drinking alcohol if we're super depressed or anxious, what are I should say, elated and around a social community? Um, there's a social aspect where we like to eat more. So, you know, we just have to realize that we don't need to. And then on top of that comes guilt. Okay. Guilt. Because maybe we gained a little bit of way, maybe because we've been eating a certain way.
Frank: (06:43)
We go see our doctor and then all of a sudden we feel bad because we have high cholesterol with these are all, these are all these downward spirals that are related to food. And so what we want to do is we really want to be very cognizant of food and have food work for us and not be working for food. Okay. And so that's exactly what the whole 30 sets out to do. So it's really a mindset that you want to walk into to really say, I am going to have food freedom, I'm going to eat clean and I'm going to take care of my body. That way my body can take care of me. Okay. And so what you want to do is realize that there are program rules. You can go check these out on whole thirty.com and there are laid out for you, great testimonials, coaches, if you need one all on the website.
Frank: (07:27)
Okay. [inaudible] excuse me. And I'll link that inside of this podcast as well. But the big no-nos, okay. For the whole 30 are pretty, I mean they're, they're going to seem fairly limiting, but they're actually for a really good heart purpose. Okay. Because it is an elimination style diet. If you've ever heard of the autoimmune protocol, um, it's sort of like, what I like to say, it's on the spectrum of sort of like looking at Paleo Taquito, right? It's on that spectrum of like certain types of foods that you want to eliminate in order to be able to actually get the health benefit. Okay. So the first thing is probably the hardest for most people, which is don't consume any sugar whatsoever. And that is both real or artificial. Like that's not just like, oh, well, okay, I'll cut out pure cane sugar, but then I'm okay to do like Xylitol or z Stevia or even honey or maple syrup.
Frank: (08:18)
You can't do those on the whole 30. Okay. So no added sugars whatsoever. All right. That's both real and artificial. All right? Not supposed to consume any type of alcohol, excuse me, for the whole 30. Why? Because it's a detoxification thing. And so we don't want to consume sugar alcohols, um, or ethanol or anything like that during the whole 30 as well. And of course, if you're also smoking, try to cut that back as well to where you're not smoking. Okay. Really good way to be able to get rid of that. The big thing is, is a very similar to Paleo. You're not going to eat any grains. These grains are any type of grains to include even sprouted grains or natural grains like amaranth or buckwheat or keynote or something like that. You just don't, um, add any type of grains whatsoever. So make sure that you're very cognizant of any types of grains that might be in the foods that you're planning on consuming.
Frank: (09:10)
Don't eat legumes. This is number four. So legumes are like any of these types of things that are like, you know, quick, easy, like more like a bean, if you will, as sort of like a lagoon. So you gotta look at like all of the different types of paints or Pintos and monument, Lima beans and black beans, red beans, all that kind of stuff. Okay. You also want to not have any peanuts. That's also important as well. And no peanut butter because it's of course a product of peanuts. Okay. And then get rid of all different types of soy. Alright. So that's all recommended by Melissa to say like, you know, know me. So now to Tofu, Tempeh at a mommy or anything like that or I get rid of those types of legumes as well. This is a big one. Number five is don't eat any dairy.
Frank: (09:53)
Okay. That is actually any cow, goats, sheep milk. All right. Are any of the products related to that? The reason why is because it has been seen that even a little bit of cow milk can actually be pretty inflammatory inside of the body. And so remember, it's a elimination style diet. We're trying to help repair, you know, things like leaky gut and stuff like that. And so we want to be able to like really drive the inflammation down. Um, don't have any type of sulfites okay. Don't have any type of junk foods or treats because they, here's the thing, the actually the vast majority of Americans actually consume snacks, myself included. Right? So like you're not necessarily hungry, but you're like, if I just have a snack, then I'll, I'll go ahead and Ho hold myself off and then usually I'll will consume like a meal a couple of hours anyway, uh, later.
Frank: (10:39)
So consuming snacks is what kind of gets us into that downward spiral on that funk. Okay. I'm definitely don't have like any types of products. Melissa really talks about like don't have any types of products that like resemble other foods, but they're made with foods that are okay to be on like a whole 30. So this would be like your cauliflower crusts that you would use for a pizza. Instead, get your Kali flour, make your own crust with ingredients that you know that are in there, and then make your pizza. Okay. So, um, these, these ready to eat non grain muffins or non grain, uh, I don't know, like, like, um, tortilla shells or whatever, you gotta make this stuff by yourself because if you're not making this stuff by yourself, then really what's happening is you are not changing your habit, okay? You are actually not changing your habits.
Frank: (11:34)
So you need to make sure that you are changing habits and by doing so you're getting rid of those like snacky foods, if you will, that uh, that are actually, um, that are actually causing these different types of mindsets that you currently have. Okay? So that's a big one. And then the last is don't weigh yourself. Don't do any body measurements, okay? Um, Melissa recommends you could do one on like day zero, right? Like the day before you get ready to start on your whole 30 and you're welcome to do one a day, 31 more than likely you are going to end up losing weight. But the most important thing about this diet is that you're going to feel great after you finished because your body and you will have overcome a large obstacle. And you'll be able to start having the journey of putting your food into place. Okay? So here's the types of things that are actually allowed on the whole 30, um, something called g, which is a clarified type of butter.
Frank: (12:26)
You can use that, okay? Don't use whole butter, um, fruit juice or totally fine. Make sure that the fruit juice is like 100% natural. Okay. Um, you're allowed to have green beans and sugar snap peas and stuff like that. Vinegar is totally fine. Coconut Aminos is a great way to add a bunch of like really, really good, um, ferments into your diet because those are really great as well. But watch out for anything when it has like, you know, nectar or syrup or a Gaba or any of that kind of stuff. And then the last thing is salt. Just be careful about the type of salt you consume. Excuse me, to flavor your foods because you want to be like super careful about the, um, about the type of added sugar that might actually be inside of that. Okay. So that's really it. That's the whole dirty in a nutshell.
Frank: (13:13)
There are so many wonderful, um, there are so many wonderful like cookbooks and websites and all these other great resources that are out there in order for you to have a bunch of ideas for diets. Um, it's been really awesome for us. Like what we'll do is we'll essentially plan out like all 30 days of the Diet and uh, and being able to actually march out every single thing. That way we know where we're getting, we have our snacks lined up if we want to do snacks, you know, our nuts and things like that that we can eat in between. Um, but it's really awesome and I'm telling you, we have now accomplished it at least four to six times and every single time that we come out of that hole 30, we feel great. Okay. So that's it. If you got any questions, by all means, I know that this is a little bit of a shorter podcast today, but if you've got any questions and you're checking us out on Facebook, shoot me an email, frank at ritzy essentials.
Frank: (14:08)

Um, if you have any other questions at all about like, say diet or nutrition or you know, a movement or any of that kind of stuff, please do so. Okay. Because that's what unconventional wellness is here and that's what we're all about. Alright. Um, mind you, excuse me. I said that we would be doing a giveaway. Well, I'm not, I'm not backing out on that. Okay. It is in fact actually happening. And so what is the way to get in on this free giveaway? Well, this is what you can do. I'm going to do the giveaway about three weeks from now, okay. Toward the middle to end of September, excuse me, on my podcast. That is the way to get entered. And I will select one person, um, lucky winner that we'll be able to get a really awesome prize that I'm not even going to announce the prize because I want that to stay in suspense. So, but it will be cool. And so that's the way to do it. So either you know, or excuse me, leave a rating and review on my page, leave a rating or review on my podcast, and then make sure that you share that podcast. Okay, we're here for you.
