Frank:                           00:00                Hey everyone and welcome to unconventional wellness radio is powerful and inspiring podcast set to revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat. That'd be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey everyone, frank here and didn't. We're going to switch things up a little bit on our unconventional wellness radio podcast and the reason why is because I want to bring you some great content in reference to all the things that unconventional one list represents. And so I wanted to speak today toward some of the exercise that I want to talk about in this program. Now, we've talked about a couple of diets and previous podcasts. If you haven't seen those, please check those out. You know, they're uh, probably episode while the last episode was on intermittent fasting. And then we've done a couple of episodes on other nutritional concepts.
Frank:                           00:55                And so the purpose of unconventional, unconventional wellness is to actually speak toward what I'm referring to as the core for the core, for our pillars of good wellness that everybody should be able to follow in order to achieve their optimal health. And it starts with food. Everything always starts with food, and we've talked about nutrition as I've said, but we're also going to talk in a functional movement, different ways of working out and what that's all about. And then we're going to talk about how to get better sleep. We're going to talk about how to remove stress and we're definitely going to talk about how to detoxify your life. And so through those four things, I myself am a combat veteran. I'm service disabled, meaning that a sustained injuries while I was on active duty with the army and I've had to figure out ways with my wife in order to be able to live in an unconventional way.
Frank:                           01:49                Speaking of what does that even mean? They actually live in an unconventional way. Well, yeah, as you may or may not understand, the, uh, the United States is very, very expensive when it comes to healthcare. We end up spending about $2,000,000,000,000 a year on healthcare. And the vast majority of Americans, about 80 percent of them actually fall under a situation where they have at least one chronic illness. Now, the downside is not only is it expensive, but a lot of people are just unaware that they can handle a lot of their health care every single day with the

Here are the notes from today's show:
Frank:                           00:00                Hey everyone and welcome to unconventional wellness radio is a powerful and inspiring podcast set to revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat and be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. Hey everyone. What's up? Frank Ritz here for unconventional wellness radio and today we're going to talk about something that is near and dear to my heart as it is one of the current ways that I am actually looking for in my nutrition unconventional wellness. What we're looking to do is we're trying to look at, you know, nutrition and we're trying to look at movement and we're trying to look at getting better sleep and reducing your stress and being able to remove toxins in your body. Well, today's podcast episode is going to actually attack one of the legs of nutrition than I'm going to talk about as a whole on the on unconventional wellness and that is the key to genic diet, but before we speak about the ketogenic diet and intermittent fasting, I also wanted to talk about the Paleo Diet.
Frank:                           01:06                Now the Paleo Diet is something that myself and my wife had been following ever since probably about, oh, 2000 and maybe 2011, 2012 when it was just first starting to emerge as an actual consideration for a way to eat and that's what I want to make sure that we understand is that when I talk about nutrition plans, they're just that they're actually more of a lifestyle and I don't want you to confuse it with the word diet anymore. Diet has such a negative connotation to it is that, you know, when I hear the word Diet, I think it's a fad or that it's going to be short lived or it's hard to. Followers has a lot of different things that make it very difficult for me to be successful with. And so when we look at the lifestyle of what nutritional pathway you want to take, I want to be able to create an environment where you understand the sciences as they are currently and what I'm actually doing in my own life in order to be able to help you make the decisions of those things that you want to do in your life as well.
Frank:                           02:09                And so let me back this train up a little bit and talk about the Paleolithic Diet and then we'll kind

  • Episode #7: MTHFR Mutation and Supplements to Help You
Are you a carrier of MTHFR?  Don't know?  Well, Frank discusses his situation with MTHFR and what supplements he uses to combat his condition.
    Enjoy!
So anyway, I wanted to come on here guys and I want to start really unpackaging the Mthfr mutation and uh, and what we've been doing to a supplemental. Now, Mthfr stands for methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase. Say that five times fast. Um, it's actually the key gene responsible for coding for the enzyme that is responsible for methylating certain things in your body predominantly, you know, full laid, b, 12 things of that nature. But long story short is with a gene discrepancy, there are two that are not identified on two different. Okay, let's, let's, let's back the train up and not get super scientific with it, but in order to understand what Mthfr is and when and why are we starting to throw some understanding to it, let's start trying to understand how genes work.
Frank:                           01:20                Okay? So we all know that we have a genetic profile, right? We have something that makes us up. There's something called the Geno type and a phenotype. The genotype is actually your genetic information, whereas your phenotype is what is expressed. Okay, so for example, let's just say that my genes code for me to have around here. Okay, so the phenotype is that I have brown hair. The geno type could be whatever. Geneticists have determined a could be the gene specifically that codes for brown hair. So like let's just say that that's something that we'll refer to as either a big B, meaning that it's dominant. That's another thing that we'll talk about here in a second or a little bit, which means that it's recessive. Well, in my family, most of us have brown hair. The reason being is because it's very dominant in folks of Mediterranean heritage, like myself, you know, Italians and Greeks and anybody around that entire area of Europe predominantly have black hair, black or brown hair.
Frank:                           02:23                Now, of course there are exceptions to the rule, but here's the deal. The dominant been is not being expressed. That's actually that little bee that's being expressed and that could like code for something like not brown hair. So therefore it could be red headed, it could be Brunette or excuse me, an opportunity that is black hair, but it could be blonde. Okay. So why I'm saying that is because we are finding out that

Frank:                           00:00                Hey everyone and welcome to unconventional wellness radio is powerful and inspiring podcast sets it revolutionize and disrupt healthcare. It's trying to put you in the driver's seat. That'd be the force of change necessary for the lifestyle you've always wanted. I, I'm, uh, I'm Frank Ritz. I don't know if you guys know me, but I'm sort of like the high end, the scenes guy with jacqueline or website for Gosh, has it been like nine years now. And so I think it's about time for me to go ahead and sort of step out from behind the keyboard, if you will. And in terms of all of the support that I have provided and maybe start actually taking a little bit more of a mentorship and coaching role that, uh, that I've been wanting to
Speaker 2:                    01:13                life works in very strange but yet mysterious ways. And one day you finally have that Aha moment. And My Aha moment is actually been over the course of the last probably five years. Uh, I, to tell you a little bit of a backstory, I am a certified physician assistant and I'm also a service disabled combat veteran. And I have really just tried to find myself in terms of what do I do, uh, in, in how am I supposed to change the world because I've always wanted to do something like that. And so let me start by first telling you a, you know, I have no disclosures, if you will. I don't have anything that I necessarily am going to speak about. And all I'm going to try to do is just provide value and, uh, and tell you that there is hope. And that's, that's really what the biggest part of this messages that I just want you to, to, to, to have hope.
Speaker 2:                    02:10                And so I started off in my childhood as believing that I was going to just simply be a doctor. That was it. That was what I was supposed to do with my life. Right? And I already figured that out.
