January 05, 2021#143 – Be Brave w/ Michelle GahaganThis is an episode you don’t want to miss. Serving it up straight and true is what we have always counted on Michelle for. This conversation was just that. From her previous days as a lawyer in Vancouver, to following a different path in London before investing and starting a bike rental company in Provence, France — Michelle is never short of interesting stories. However, once you slow this wild woman down, you will uncover a part of her heart that is quite soft and gentle. She shares the secret of how going long and hard all begins with being kinder to ourselves. And of course, always being brave.LINKSBike Rentals: francebikerentals.com Hosted on Acast. December 12, 2020#142 – Wrapping 2020 in a bow with Matt + Steph2020 has been a big year for so many and us included, in our own ways. Most notably, Matt Corker transitioned from leading a yoga retreat in Bali in February, to lockdown in March, to leading the business through the initial phases of COVID before being promoted to Dad in August. It’s always inspiring to hear from Matt and be reminded of the power in being ready for change. While no one can predict what the future holds, what we do know for sure is that Matt will be ready for whatever will be next! Hosted on Acast. December 12, 2020#141 – Going Green w/ Jessica ChristinJessica has found ways to create a niche in the market when it comes to creating sustainable and healthy homes. Despite COVID, she was able to pivot her offering online and Steph had an inside peak into room by room of our homes — what to get rid of and what to replace the old with. As we are spending more time in lockdown and in our homes, it felt like the perfect conversation to be sharing. We hope this episode inspires you to make even a few simple changes before the clock strikes 2021.LINKS:Jessica’s Website: jessicachristin.comBamboo Bedsheets: simplyorganicbamboo.comJess’ Favourite Blanket: sleepartisan.com Hosted on Acast. Together, they riff on what this process has been like for each other. Some tips include: holding some goals close to our hearts, having the right cheerleaders in your corner and of course, being willing to fail along the way. Hosted on Acast. December 08, 2020#139 – The Creative Process w/ David VertesiThis week we talk to David Vertesti – known for his incredible musical prowess as the bassist of Hey Ocean, he has also been a cornerstone in the Vancouver Arts and Music scene. He created a beautiful event called Sing It Forward, performing at events of the likes of the Junos and was also the creative spirit behind the Vancouver Mural Festival. And he has also walked away from those creative endeavours. He has a really refreshing relationship with what it takes (read: all consuming!) to start something. Since the birth of his first child, he has realized that his brain never truly turns off and in order to be fully present, he had to decide where to spend his time. Despite COVID-19 derailing the Mural Festival in it’s original intent, he still found a way to bring it to life in 2020, creating arguably one of the most successful art expos of the pandemic. We are grateful for his perspective of letting go to create room for something new – even when you have no idea what that newness will be.LINKS:David Vertesi: davidvertesi.comHey Ocean: heyocean.comVancouver Mural Festival: vanmuralfest.caCreative Mornings: creativemornings.com Hosted on Acast. December 01, 2020#138 – Lifelong Learning w/ Brooke HarleyThis week we talk with Brooke Harley, CEO and founder of Class Rebel. Brooke shares her perspective on living a life littered with failures and risk, all while trying to overturn conventional education and remove the barriers that exist to serve the very elite few. Early into our discussion, Brooke poses the question, “would we construct our education system the same way knowing we are living a “hundred year life”?” With contemporary education ending at 21, and much of what one learns obsolete years after they learn it, Brooke is driven to reinvent this model and offer opportunities to become a lifelong learner without the lifelong debt. Speaking of money – her next course offers learners around the world the opportunity to become comfortable in the language and logistics around raising money in order to start their entrepreneurial journey on their own terms.LINKS:Website: classrebel.comFundraising 101 Course: classrebel.com/registration/fundraising-101/ Hosted on Acast. November 20, 2020#137 – Adapting to the New Normal w/ Aaron De JongOn this week’s episode of Uncorked, we circle back to move forward with Aaron De Jong, owner of Movement 108 and founder/CEO of Movr, a mobile interface designed to prescribe safe movements for every unique body. In this timely conversation, Aaron shares how Covid-19 forced him to make tough decisions in the fitness space inhabited, and what important lessons he learned from saying good-bye to the old “normal.”As Aaron moved from brick-and-mortar to an online fitness studio, he faced what many small business owners are going through as we speak – The inability to fully capture what his former company brought to his, and his clients lives. A realist, Aaron soon realized he wouldn’t be able to replicate the kind of connection with the community he fostered previously, and he had to reevaluate what space he wanted to take up in the world. His journey echoes what so many are currently experiencing, and his approach to letting go can certainly be of help to those in his industry, and beyond.EPISODE LINKS:Movr App: https://movewithmovr.com/Movement 108: https://movement108.com/ Hosted on Acast. November 09, 2020#135 - Deeply Rooted yet Free w/ Everett BumsteadIn this week’s edition of Uncorked, we dust off our Canadian tuxedos and join Everett Bumstead in celebrating one of our beloved practices in this country: tree planting. Everett’s new documentary, One Million Trees, challenges our assumptions about the job and the highballers who share a passion and joy for life outside the 9-5.No two tree planters are the same. It’s a fact Everett lays bare at the outset of the conversation. In his 7-year career (in which he alone planted over 500,000 trees), he’s spent time on the block with lawyers, models, and triathletes alike. Throughout the discussion, he shares a love and appreciation for all the skilled labourers who traverse the land, their value measured in the work they do. His biggest fear? It’s not the long hours, the unpredictable weather, the swarms of mosquitos or the extreme solitude… it’s being tethered to a job he can coast in.One Million Trees Documentary: https://gem.cbc.ca/media/absolutely-canadian/season-20/episode-23/38e815a-0134fc83a86Treeplanting terms: https://www.tentree.com/blogs/posts/top-10-tree-planter-terms-everyone-should-know#:~:text=A%20highballer%20is%20a%20planter,the%20shortest%20period%20of%20time. November 03, 2020#134 - Deserving of Glorious Opportunities w/ Arielle Estoria“Give yourself permission to change and unfold…and to find joy.”With beautiful intention, Arielle Estoria wears many hats (and swimsuits!). But most importantly, the one of virtual storyteller is what encompasses them all. Through her spoken word poetry, to her self-love advocacy, Arielle searches for connection, collaboration, and time to be alone with her thoughts. In this week’s edition of Uncorked, Arielle tells us about a moment she shared with our very own Cecily, a pinnacle point in time where a major self-transformation occurred, and she realized she was deserving of glorious opportunities. Her awareness that her belief in herself must be trusted in order to achieve her dreams is a major eye-opener for those of us struggling to believe that we are worthy of our accomplishments.
