Under Two Capes

This week, Jared and Nick discuss their favorite eras of comic books and what made each unique. They discuss status quo changes, key storylines, editorial decisions and mandates, and character designs specific to the 80's, 90's, early 2000's, and late 2000's as well as the modern eras.

Comics certainly have changed over the years, and it is prudent to discuss each era in its entirety to see the context behind many modern decisions and stories that we complain about lol.

What do you think? What is your favorite era of comics? What is your least favorite era? What do you think was the most important era of comics?

This week, Jared and JHEAT outline the top issues facing the comic book industry, thus preventing them from achieving all they can be. These include a sub-par writing and editorial staff, an over-reliance on events and mantle swaps, and so many more issues (pun intended) that turn off potential audiences.

With the immense popularity of comic book movies, its makes no sense that comic books are not more mainstream and bigger than they are. Its all a produce of self-inflicted wounds.

What do you think? Why is the industry struggling? What can the industry do to course correct?

This week, Jared invites fellow DC comics fan and YouTuber Robert Willing back to the show to discuss the reasons why Jimmy Olsen has been largely ignored by DC comics and other media and why this practice should be stopped. In other words, these are the reasons why Jimmy Olsen is essential to the mythos of Superman.

This channel has produced multiple videos discussing why Lois Lane is not essential to Superman, so it was time to change it up to discuss a character who is an essential element to any Superman universe.

What do you think? Is Jimmy Olsen really essential to Superman? What is your favorite Jimmy Olsen story? When was he portrayed best?

This week, Jared welcomes Joseph Santos to the show to discuss if the character of Lois Lane is not essential to Superman (in her current iteration), the Suicide Squad Kill The Justice League Delays, how to modernize DC characters, and why the SnyderVerse is awesome!

Lois Lane's role in DC seems to encompass the damsel in distress, but if she has a more active role in the overall DC narrative, maybe she could become a better character.

What do you think? Is Lois Lane essential? What did you think of the delays to the Suicide Squad Game? Is the SnyderVerse awesome?

This week, Jared welcomes Max Von Priestly back to the show to discuss the most masculine superheroes in DC and Marvel comics. Everyone from Superman to Venom are represented as the boys discuss what about these characters exemplifies the traits of masculinity.

It is really important for the comic book heroes to represent positive masculinity (there is nothing wrong with masculinity) as these heroes can serve as role models for men growing up.

Its always a pleasure to speak to Wes and get his thoughts on the comic book industry, particularly when discuss such a positive topic such as this one. Its important to always leave room for positivity in such a negative space such as comic book commentating

This week, Jared and Nick from the Phoenix Press invite Tonicmole on the show to discuss his evolution as a comic fan, Powergirl's complicated history in the comics, and his comic book universe Saving The World. They also discuss many of the questionable creative decisions in Marvel and DC's publication histories.

It was really fun geeking out with Tonicmole and discussing the origins of his comic universe, and we hope to have him on again in the near future!

This week, Jared and Nick from the Phoenix Press rewrite Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Man of Steel, improving the few plot issues those movies have. They address the inclusion of Doomsday, the death of Jonathan Kent, the omission of Metallo, and other small issues with those movies.

To be clear, THEY LOVE BVS AND MOS. THIS IS JUST A FUN THOUGHT EXPERIMENT. These are some of the best DC movies of all time, but they also have some  ways that they could have been slightly improved.

What do you think? How would you improve BVS? How would you improve Man of Steel? Are these movies perfect as they are?

This week, Jared discusses what stories James Gunn should use as inspiration for his depiction of Wonder Woman when she enters the universe. He outlines a selection of Diana's stories and status quos that could lead to compelling tales like WW 2017.

It's always fun to talk about Wonder Woman, as she is a character who doesn't get enough credit for her story arsenal, despite the fact that she is one of the most popular female superheroes.

What do you think? What WW stories should be the bases for her movies? Did Jared forget a story?
