We throw on the helmet and strap in for a weird, wild ride this week as we watched the 1983 sci-fi family dramedy Brainstorm, featuring the ill-fated star-crossed lovers Christopher Walken and Natalie Wood, in the film that would prove to be her last, as she died tragically and mysteriously while this film was down for the holidays. Leo Allen host of the Voluntary Input podcast and the mind behind the music project Profound Simplicity joins us to discuss this gem from his youth. What would our lives be like if we suddenly had a virtual reality experience that stimulated all of our senses like in this film? How could this technology be exploited and what's one of the obvious prurient first uses that it would be used for? Don't worry, those questions--along with many others--are addressed in this week's installment of the Unkind Rewind.

At the age of 9, a friend's dad traumatized his own son and Munch My Benson's own Adam Schwitters by gleefully letting them watch the darkly sexual and extremely messed up 1987 Mickey Rourke/Lisa Bonet/Robert De Niro gothic horror noir set in 1950s New York and New Orleans, Angel Heart. The first time Josh heard this, he was struck dumb at the notion that such a young child had been allowed to see such an ADULT movie, so when Unkind Rewind was born, there was absolutely no way that they weren't going to dive into Adam's FORMATIVE experience with such an age-inappropriate film.

Having rewatched the nightmare fuel that is 1985's Return to Oz, we sat back down with our special guest, Max Rieper, the managing editor for Royals Review, who contrary to his peers not only loved this film as a child but felt this film was superior to its predecessor The Wizard of Oz because it was more faithful to the L. Frank Baum books. That it was darker and bleaker didn't bother young Max, but how would its vision of the Land of Oz and its new traveling companions for a much younger Dorothy (played by a Fairuza Balk who enjoyed her 10th birthday while shooting this film) play to a grown-up Max? And if the test of time ended up being cruel to Return to Oz, how would it play to Max's memories of a very strange film? Was his recall on point or were there gaping holes in what he remembered the film being, having not seen it in more than 35 years?
