In our eighth episode we meet with Sophie Byrne, one half of ‘We Are Changing: Health’.
We think it's pretty fair to say that most women have felt powerless, patronised, lost, intimidated, dictated, fragile or fearful when trying to understand and navigate the health system. Likewise, it is evident that women’s health issues have been taboo for far too long. We admire Sophie for her vulnerability and vision for creating a safe space for all women to unite in their shared experience and challenge health stereotypes and empower others to get to know their bodies and advocate for themselves and others.
In this episode, Sophie shares with us her own experiences with chronic UTIs and her sister, Emma completing a medical degree, which saw the development of their online platform ‘We Are Changing: Health’.
We talk about some of the barriers in accessing appropriate health care and how to minimise these. We explore the power in community and knowing your anatomy and health symptomatology. Have you ever kept your own health journal? Sophie shares with us this killer advice to take control of your health.
We discuss the lack of diversity in health and medical research and in legislation. Sophie is passionate about highlighting the need for diverse representation in these areas.
