January 13, 2020Wait, Hope and ExpectHello and welcome back. I'm glad you are here.In this short lesson we look at the verbs WAIT, HOPE and EXPECT.These verbs are used to express anticipation and wishes. In some languages, for example Spanish, there may only be one verb that covers all three meanings, which is only evident in the context of the sentence. In Spanish, the verb ESPERAR is used:I wait for the busEspero el autobusI hope they win the match.Espero que ganan el partido.I expect them to win as they are the best team.Espero que ganan, son los mejores. The audio lesson gives more examples in English to show the difference between the 3 verbs. If you would like to leave me a voice message with comments on the podcast, suggestions for others or other English doubts, click this link :) https://www.speakpipe.com/unlockyourenglishDon't forget to sign up for my newsletter too and get a copy of my free eBook.https://unlockyourenglish.ck.page/c7d3267d10Support the showSupport me on Patreon and unlock tons of extra content from tips, tricks to more audio and video files exclusive to my Patreon supporters.https://www.patreon.com/unlockedenglish...more5minPlay

January 03, 2020None and Neither: singular or plural?Hello there and welcome back to my Unlock Your English Podcast. Good to see you here. I hope you are finding the short lessons useful. In this one, we take a look at the uses of NONE and NEITHER and check to see if they are are used with "singular" or "plural" nouns. Please note: I mention singular and plural verb forms during the lesson.... What I should have said was, it depends on whether the "subjects" are singular or plural. "I" for example is only one person whereas we use "they" for more than one person. This is only an issue with the verb "to be" where we would see the following changes in the verb form:I am / wasYou are / werehe is / wasshe is / wasit is / waswe are / wereyou are / werethey are / wereVerbs themselves are not singular or plural and in most cases the verb form from subject to subject does not change, apart from adding a 3rd person "s" in the present tense only. For example:I playyou playhe playsshe playsit playsyou playwe playthey playI hope that cleared up any possible confusion. Thanks for listening!Support the showSupport me on Patreon and unlock tons of extra content from tips, tricks to more audio and video files exclusive to my Patreon supporters.https://www.patreon.com/unlockedenglish...more6minPlay
