Offshore wind in Asia-Pacific has long been led by China, but new markets are now emerging as the region’s other major economies look to offshore wind as a vital component of their plans for the energy transition. 

Both Japan and Korea have set ambitious targets and timelines for a rapid buildout of new offshore wind capacity, but face a series of challenges from soaring costs to supply chain constraints that have impacted its development in other parts of the world. 

Meanwhile, other countries in the region from Vietnam to Australia are joining in the race to build offshore wind as energy security and decarbonisation goals become major policy priorities.
