  • The Miraculous Case for God A View from Jewish History
In his late nineteenth-century essay, “Concerning the Jews,” Mark Twain made the following observation, "The Egyptian, the Babylonian, and the Persian rose, filled the planet with sound and splendor, then faded to dream-stuff and passed away; the Greek and the Roman followed and made a vast noise, and they are gone. . . . The Jew saw them all, beat them all. . . . All things are mortal but the Jew; all other forces pass, but he remains. What is the secret of his immortality?"

This open question, an explanation for the miracle of Jewish survival, and the religious meaning of Jewish history will be the center of conversation during Museum of the Bible’s upcoming speaker event, The Miraculous Case for God: A View from Jewish History—A Conversation with Rabbi Meir Soloveichik. Join us for a fascinating discussion with Rabbi Meir Soloveichik, minister of the oldest Jewish congregation in America and ambassador for Jewish faith to religious leaders around the world, and Eric Cohen, executive director of the Tikvah Fund, one of America’s preeminent Jewish think tanks and educational institutions, as they explore these great theological and historical questions.

The Miraculous Case for God: A View from Jewish History—A Conversation with Rabbi Meir Soloveichik will be held virtually, on a platform to be determined. Attendance is limited. Register today to guarantee your spot!

Presented in partnership with the Tikvah Fund.

  • Cornel West and Robert P. George: On Honesty and Courage in a Time of Polarization
Two of America's most important public intellectuals—Robert P. George and Cornel West— came together to discuss the urgent need for honesty and courage at a time when mutual suspicion and animosity undermine civic friendship and imperil social order. George and West drew upon the resources of faith and reason—in the biblical tradition—to rise above extreme polarization. Professor Cheryl Sanders of Howard University School of Divinity and president of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, Mark Tooley, served as panelists to reflect on the conversation.

  • A Balm in Gilead
Museum of the Bible hosted the homegoing event of the Slave Bible as it returns to Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. This provocative artifact prompted several thousand organizations, churches and educational institutions to tackle the conversation of the role of the Bible and slavery in our country. This particular Bible stirred museum guests to leave more than 9,000 comment cards reflecting on their experience and interaction with the exhibit.
The roundtable discussion, moderated by Dr. Ida E. Jones, included scholars, academics and theologians such as Dr. Eric Lewis Williams of the National Museum of African American Culture and History (NMAACH), Dr. Jessie Carney Smith of Fisk University and Dr. Yolanda Pierce, professor and dean of the Howard University School of Divinity.
