🎙️ Episode 37: The Good You Bring: Remembering Who God Says You Are

Can you list five flaws in seconds, but struggle to name five good things about yourself?

In Episode 37 of Unshaken, Kristy and Tony talk about something most of us do without even noticing: we can name what is wrong with us far faster than we can name what is good. If you have been living under old wounds, past comments, or the quiet voice that says you are not enough, this conversation calls you back to the truth of who God says you are.

God does not define you by your worst moments. He calls you His image bearer.

Kristy opens with Genesis 1:27 and reminds us that we were created in the image of a loving Creator, on purpose and with intention. Tony names how the enemy spotlights old shame, especially in the middle of the night, and why we have to learn from the past without living there. Together, they talk about identity in Christ that is not earned and not based on performance, and how community helps us remember what we forget about ourselves. They also connect it to disability and calling, including Tony’s honest shift from seeing cerebral palsy as a burden to seeing it as part of God’s gift and purpose. This episode is a steady invitation to stop settling for scraps and receive what God has already placed at the table: grace, calling, and the courage to walk as who you truly are in Him.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Genesis 1:27: you were created in God’s image, which means you carry dignity and purpose
    • The enemy spotlights old shame, but God speaks to your true identity, not your past
    • Your identity in Christ is a gift, not a wage (2 Corinthians 5:17: new creation, factory reset)
    • God equips those He calls: humility is not tearing yourself down
    • Your gifts are for the body of Christ, and your story can bring hope, even in disability (Psalm 139:14)

  • Episode 36: You Were Never Accidental: God’s Hand in Every Chapter

🎙️ Episode 36: You Were Never Accidental: God’s Hand in Every Chapter

What if your life is not random, not off-track, and not an accident, even if the chapter you are in feels heavy or unclear?

In Episode 36 of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy share a Thanksgiving-week reminder that steadies the soul: you were created on purpose, for a purpose. If you have ever looked back at your story and wondered why God allowed certain chapters, or if you feel like you messed up the plan, this conversation speaks directly to that fear.

No one in heaven is surprised by the chapter you are living right now.

    🔵 Explore this episode:
    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/you-were-never-accidental-gods-hand-in-every-chapter/

Kristy anchors the episode in Ephesians 2:10 and walks through the idea of God’s intentionality, not just at the beginning of your story, but across every turn, pruning season, and detour. Tony shares why Thanksgiving is especially meaningful to him, remembering his own fragile beginning as a premature baby and how God’s hands were present even then. Together, they speak to the person who feels unseen, uncertain, or angry about disability, loss, or a life that did not turn out the way you expected. This is not a promise that hard chapters are easy. It is a reminder that God does not skip them. He steps into them with you. If you have been running like Jonah, or feel too broken to come home, this episode holds out hope: turn around, and you will find Him closer than you think.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Ephesians 2:10: you are God’s handiwork, created on purpose for good works prepared in advance
    • God doesn’t skip hard chapters. He steps into them with you, even in the valley
    • Pruning seasons are painful, but they are not punishment. They are love that produces growth
    • Obedience doesn’t always feel good, but faithfulness matters and God walks step-for-step with you
    • If you feel accidental, broken, or off-path, you can turn around today. God is one step away and glad you came home

Holiday travel can push any family to the edge. How do you plan in a way that keeps disability needs from turning the whole trip into a crisis?

In Episode 35 of Unshaken, Kristy and Tony share practical, real-world travel hacks for families navigating disability, sensory needs, and mobility challenges during the holiday rush. This is not about perfection or a picture-perfect trip. It is about preparation, flexibility, and choosing peace on purpose, whether you are flying, driving, or doing both.

Kristy opens with Psalm 121:8 and reminds us that God watches over our coming and going, not just the big trips but the everyday ones too. Then they walk through what actually helps: leaving extra time for everything, making a master checklist, packing meds and documentation, and keeping essentials with you in case luggage goes missing. Tony shares practical airport wisdom, including TSA assistance options and how to communicate needs ahead of time without shame. They also cover road-trip rhythms, accessible hotel tips, scooter rentals for long days, and a simple way to help kids regulate with a 'travel box' of new, calming items. If travel has felt nerve-wracking, this episode brings steady encouragement and a few concrete steps you can use on your next trip.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Psalm 121:8: God watches over your coming and going, even in travel stress
    • Planning ahead is not about control. It is about making stress as avoidable as possible
    • Make a master checklist: meds, dosing info, equipment, sensory supports, and documentation
    • Airport support exists: ask for help, communicate needs, and give yourself permission to slow down
    • Build in margin and flexibility: breaks are not interruptions, and detours can still hold joy

  • Episode 34: Grace at the Table: Loving Family Through Hard Conversations

🎙️ Episode 34: Grace at the Table: Loving Family Through Hard Conversations

Do you dread family gatherings because you know a hard conversation is coming?

In Episode 34 of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy talk about one of the most delicate parts of family life: having hard conversations with extended family when disability, mental health, or real-life needs are in the picture. This is especially for the holiday season, when everyone is together and one careless comment can shift the whole room.

Peace is not the absence of conflict. It is the presence of Christ in the middle of it.

    🔵 Explore this episode:
    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/grace-at-the-table-loving-family-through-hard-conversations/

Kristy shares a personal example of advocating for a child in a tender mental health season and how setting clear expectations ahead of time protected everyone, including the family members who genuinely wanted to support but did not know what to say. Tony adds the importance of tone, prayer, and remembering you are not on opposing sides. You are on the same team. They talk about awkward questions, unhelpful comments, comparisons between kids, and over-helping that can unintentionally shame someone. They also give practical steps for preparing the conversation, using I-statements, deciding what is non-negotiable, setting boundaries without hostility, and choosing a plan that serves your family even if it breaks tradition. If you need wisdom for a hard conversation you have been avoiding, this episode will steady you.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15): neither harshness nor avoidance leads to growth
    • Tone matters: how you say it often carries more weight than the words themselves
    • Prepare ahead: know what they must understand by the end of the conversation
    • Boundaries can honor God: clarity and love working together (and sometimes walking away is the wisest path)
    • As far as it depends on you, live at peace (Romans 12:18), and practice grace and forgiveness (Colossians 3:13)

🎙️ Episode 33: Doing Life with God: Finding Faithfulness in the Everyday

Do you want to spend time with God, but consistency feels impossible in real life?

In Episode 33 of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy talk about daily time with God for real people with real schedules, real stress, and brains that do not always love routine. They name the tension so many of us feel: the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak. If quiet time has become a guilt cycle, or if you have ADHD, executive function challenges, or just a crowded life, this conversation brings grace and practical clarity.

God is not looking for a streak. He is inviting you into relationship.

    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/doing-life-with-god-finding-faithfulness-in-the-everyday/

Tony shares a honest confession about how seminary can sometimes make devotional life feel dry, because study can quietly replace devotion. Kristy reframes the whole conversation around relationship, not ritual, and reminds you that God is not annoyed with you. He wants you close. They explore what it means to remain and abide in Christ (John 15:5), how to build micro-moments of worship and prayer throughout the day, and how to use tools like Scripture audio, journaling, body-doubling, and apps without turning faith into a checklist. They also talk about grace for missed days, the danger of shame, and a simple weekly challenge: choose one small, joyful way to connect with God, out of love, not pressure.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Study is not devotion: God wants relationship, not a checkbox
    • Abide and remain (John 15:5): presence matters more than perfection
    • Micro-moments count: one verse, one prayer, one thank you can reshape a day
    • Use tools without guilt: Scripture audio, journaling, worship music, apps, and body-doubling can help you stay connected
    • Grace for missed days: God is not tracking a streak, He is welcoming you back

  • Episode 32: Gratitude: The Quiet Way We Fight Back

🎙️ Episode 32: Gratitude: The Quiet Way We Fight Back

What if gratitude is not pretending everything is fine, but standing in defiance of what is trying to steal your joy?

In Episode 32 of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy talk about gratitude for the seasons when life feels heavy and chaotic, when you are tired, cross, and the last thing you feel is thankful. This is not a call to fake it. It is a practical, biblical way to resist bitterness and hopelessness and to find oxygen for your soul.

Gratitude does not erase the hard. It helps you fight back against it.

    🔵 Explore this episode:
    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/gratitude-the-quiet-way-we-fight-back/

Kristy shares a real moment from a messy week where she walked into a Starbucks just to sit with Tony for a minute, and how that one small choice changed the whole track of her day. Tony names what gratitude is not: it is not toxic positivity, not denial, and not suppressing pain with a fake smile. It is choosing thankfulness in the middle of the circumstance because God is still in control. They anchor the conversation in Scripture and then give practical ways to practice gratitude when you feel stuck: a gratitude jar, keeping Scripture close, sending encouraging texts, and noticing the small kindnesses that pull you out of the spiral. If you have felt under attack, overwhelmed, or tempted to give up, this episode will help you reset your mind and find steady ground again.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18): gratitude can be obedience and resistance, not denial
    • Gratitude is honesty, not polish: it is not toxic positivity, and it does not demand you smile through pain
    • Philippians 4:6–7: prayer with thanksgiving reframes anxiety and guards your heart with God’s peace
    • Romans 12:2: the battle often happens in your mind, and Scripture helps renew what the enemy tries to twist
    • Simple practices matter: write it down, set an alarm, send an encouraging text, or start a gratitude jar

🎙️ Episode 31: Every Burden Isn’t Yours: Putting Down What God Didn’t Give You

Are you carrying things that God never asked you to carry?

In Episode 31 of Unshaken, Kristy shares a personal story from a season when life felt like too much: work, school, family transitions, and the weight of trying to hold everything together. If you have been saying yes to everyone, managing everyone’s emotions, or feeling guilty for resting, this is for you.

Faithfulness is not saying yes to everything. It is carrying what God gives you and releasing the rest.

    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/every-burden-isnt-yours-putting-down-what-god-didnt-give-you/

Kristy walks through Matthew 11:28 and Psalm 55:22 and names a hard truth: not every burden that lands in your lap belongs on your shoulders. She talks about boundaries, false ownership, and the signs you are overloaded: guilt while resting, resentment, and the feeling that even small interruptions make you snap. She offers a practical way forward, including a simple list exercise to identify what is not yours, and a grounded way to say no without becoming harsh. This episode ends with a steady encouragement and a prayer that you would find rest, peace, and room for joy again.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Matthew 11:28: Jesus invites the weary and burdened to come to Him for rest
    • Psalm 55:22: cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you
    • Signs you are carrying too much: guilt while resting, resentment, and overwhelm
    • A boundary is not selfish. It can be sacred, especially when you are tired
    • A weekly question to carry: what if the most faithful thing you do is put something down?

  • Episode 30: Fly Loose: Finding Peace in Letting Go

🎙️ Episode 30: Fly Loose: Finding Peace in Letting Go

Do you feel like you can only have peace if you stay in control?

In this episode of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy talk about control, the quiet fear under it, and why holding tighter rarely gives the peace we are chasing. Kristy opens with a hilarious story about a Happy Meal cheeseburger flying out a car window, and then they get honest about how often control is really just an attempt to manage anxiety.

Peace is not something you force by gripping harder. It is something you receive when you let go.

    🔵 Explore this episode:
    https://unshakenpodcast.org/episodes/fly-loose-finding-peace-in-letting-go/

They share a powerful illustration from aviation called “fly loose,” the idea that in turbulence, gripping the stick tighter can wreck everyone, but relaxing your grip helps you ride it out. They connect that to Scripture and everyday life: parenting, marriage, ministry, and the small decisions we white-knuckle. They also talk about delegation, humility, and the damage micromanaging can do, plus a practical gut-check: is this about safety, or is it about control? If you are exhausted, overwhelmed, or tired of carrying everything like it depends on you, this episode is an invitation to surrender, breathe, and trust your Father again.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Why control often comes from fear, exhaustion, and survival mode, not just defiance
    • “Fly loose” in turbulence: peace grows when you loosen your grip, not when you grip harder
    • Proverbs 3:5–6 and Philippians 4: God calls you to trust and trade anxiety for peace
    • A simple filter: is this about safety, or is it about control?
    • A practical step: say it out loud, “I trust You,” and choose one thing today to release

In this episode of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy begin a mini-series on how the Bible speaks to disability. This first conversation is foundational. It is about dignity, value, and the image of God. The world often measures people by independence, productivity, or appearance, but Scripture keeps bringing us back to what cannot be earned and cannot be lost. Kristy shares how her fear fell away within minutes of stepping into a classroom of students with significant disabilities, and how quickly she realized, we are more the same than different. Tony shares why he would not erase cerebral palsy if he could, because what the world calls disability has become part of how God has shaped his calling. They also name cultural lies, disability equals brokenness, and people with disabilities are a burden, and replace them with truth: brokenness is sin, and we are meant to carry burdens together as the body of Christ. If you have been wrestling with shame, grief, anger, or uncertainty, this episode will help you see yourself and others the way God sees first.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • Genesis 1:27 and Psalm 139:14: every person is fearfully and wonderfully made in God’s image
    • The image of God is not earned, and it cannot be lost, regardless of ability or dependence
    • Disability is not God’s mistake. It is a difference within His intentional design
    • Cultural lies to reject: disability equals brokenness, and people with disabilities are a burden
    • A practical invitation: look for the image of God in every face you encounter and call out the good

🎙️ Episode 28: Your Story Matters: Ordinary, Messy, and Still Unfinished

Do you ever hesitate to share your story because it feels too ordinary, too messy, or not finished yet?

In this episode of Unshaken, Tony and Kristy talk about the power of story, not as a highlight reel, but as the real, lived moments where God meets us. They share why storytelling builds trust, creates safety, and helps people feel less alone, especially for anyone carrying disability, grief, anxiety, or quiet shame.

God is not waiting for your story to be polished before He uses it.

They anchor the conversation in 2 Corinthians 1:3–4, reminding us that God comforts us so we can comfort others. They talk about the lies we believe about our story, that it is too ordinary, too messy, or not complete, and they push back with warmth and truth. Kristy shares how stories opened her classroom and helped isolated students finally open up. Tony shares how vulnerability creates a safe space, and how even the hardest chapters can become hope for someone else. If you have been shrinking back, this episode will help you take a small step toward sharing, not for attention, but for connection and encouragement.

🔶 What You’ll Hear in This Episode:

    • 2 Corinthians 1:3–4: God comforts you so you can comfort others
    • The three lies: your story is too ordinary, too messy, or unfinished, and why none of them are true
    • Why vulnerability builds trust: people open up when you go first
    • Why social media snapshots are not real connection, and what to choose instead
    • A simple next step: share one honest chapter with someone you trust, or write it down and invite God into it
