Unspeakable: A True Crime Podcast By Kelly Jennings

On a rainy June night in 2017, 10-year-old Kiaya Campbell left her home in Thornton, Colorado with 15-year-old Aidan Zellmer — the son of her father’s girlfriend. The two were supposedly headed out on a quick errand. Hours later, an Amber Alert went out. The next day, Kiaya’s body was found in a drainage ditch. She had been beaten to death with a metal pipe. Melissa Lamesch was just days away from becoming a mother. The 27-year-old EMT from Mt. Morris, Illinois, was full-term and scheduled to be induced any day. On November 25, 2020—the day before Thanksgiving—her home went up in flames.
Firefighters forced their way inside and found Melissa dead on the kitchen floor. At first it looked like a tragic accident. Then the autopsy told a different story: no smoke in her lungs, normal carbon monoxide levels, and clear signs of strangulation. Someone had killed her before the fire ever started—and then tried to burn the evidence.
The investigation zeroed in on Matthew Plote, a firefighter-EMT and the father of her unborn son. What began as a relationship full of promises ended in a calculated cover-up. DNA under Melissa’s fingernails, a web of lies, and a secret Plote was desperate to keep would eventually unravel everything.

This special Monday episode is packed with some wild crime related stories. Rapper Boosie Badazz finds himself tangled up in a wild Trump pardon scam that’s raising more questions than answers. A Florida woman named Stephanie Perdue is convicted in a truly bizarre murder-for-hire plot that sounds like it was ripped from a bad movie.
Tempers flare hard at Taco Bell when one man’s rage boils over in spectacular fashion, while another woman completely loses it over a long wait time in a separate fast-food meltdown.  Online, the disturbing “Gooner” trend at Dollar Tree is producing some shocking new stats that have parents and shoppers on edge.
In this week’s True Crime Time Machine, we head back to the case that forever changed how America protects its children: the 1981 abduction and murder of Adam Walsh. Elsewhere, quick-thinking kids alert an adult just in time to stop an attempted drowning.  A former prosecutor is accused of repeatedly trying to poison people in a case that proves age is no barrier to alleged crime. Authorities finally catch a man on the most-wanted list after a jaw-dropping $600 million Medicare fraud scheme. And the son of the infamous Long Island Lolita is arrested in Florida, bringing a new chapter to a notorious family story.

KJ dives deep into the tragic story of Dr. Whitney Morgan Temple, a dedicated physician battling a rare and aggressive form of bone cancer, and the man who was supposed to love and protect her—her husband, Joshua "Josh" Temple. Married in 2020 after meeting in 2018, the couple's life in Grand Forks, North Dakota, unraveled when Whitney was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in 2022.

As her health rapidly declined under brutal chemotherapy treatments, Josh's role as caregiver turned into one of control, gaslighting, and horrifying abuse. Whitney endured horrific verbal assaults—along with physical violence that left bruises and worsened her already fragile condition. Despite her pain and vulnerability,
Dr. Temple found the courage to secretly record her husband's tirades and, in a daring escape, called for help while he slept.
