Unsung Horrors

We're closing out April Showers of Blood with yet another French movie (we can't seem to get enough of France this year). A gothic fairy tale riff on Eyes Without a Face, The Blood Rose delivers so much of what we love in horror films.

It's April Showers of Blood! We're kicking off this year's theme of "blood" in the title by covering a Korean film that borrows quite a bit from Japanese Bakeneko films. Melting blood paintings, poison, conspiracy, mysterious maids, ghosts wandering the forest, and cats hissing, licking, and growling all come together in A Bloodthirsty Killer.

This week we're entering the house of a psychotic woman: Joyce (Veronica Hart) in Chuck Vincent's Deranged. We get into a large chunk of Vincent's mainstream filmography, share favorite films from Jamie Gillis's adult entries, and happily accept that our questions about the. events in the film will never be answered.

It's Erica's birthday this week and that means picking a movie with two things: names she can't pronounce and child endangerment. This episode we join Dr. Gabrielle Martin at her new island residence, where any you buy at the local market can kill you (ok, probably just maim you). The Demon (or something else!) is on the island (Le démon dans l'île) is not what you expect. Listen in to find out why.

This week's film tackles an uncomfortable subject and leaves the gore of the kills off-screen, but we found plenty to discuss in An Eye for an Eye aka Psychopath (1973), whose main character seems to have influenced a few of our favorite people.

It's Giallo January, but you won't be seeing yellow in Erica's pick for the month. In fact, you may have trouble seeing quite a bit since the only available copy is pretty rough. Never fear, we will fill in the blanks of whose skin is under the claws, the killer's motive, and all the missing nudity.

We're kicking off the new year (and a new network) with our next round of films that we want to see get a Blu-ray release. We've also sourced some ideas from some of the fine folks at the Someone's Favorite Productions Podcast Network, so stick around to the end to hear their picks!

Post-release note: Erica was informed that there is a release of Alien 2: On Earth from 88 Films. However, since that is Region B and the only special features are a trailer, a special effects test, and an interview with Eli Roth (that last one doesn't even count as a special feature), she's standing by this pick for a Region A label.
