  • 167 The Messy Truth About Fitness and Nutrition

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode, Dylan Foss returns to share his full story: from growing up the youngest of five and falling in love with sports, to navigating serious injuries, studying athletic training, and eventually building his own brand, Limitless Theory. We talk about the messy, winding path of becoming a coach, why nutrition and movement are never just about food or workouts, and how fatherhood shifted his mission toward helping dads put their health back on the priority list. Dylan also dives into thought-provoking conversations about black-and-white thinking in fitness, why “good” and “bad” rarely apply so simply, and how deeper self-understanding is the foundation of real health.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: Dillan Foss is currently living in sunny South Florida creating a family and the Limitless Theory brand. He loves the beach, sports, being outside, hanging with his son, learning about the human body and helping people reach physical, nutritional and financial freedom!

  • 166 Redefining Health Beyond Diets and Workouts

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I sit down with Bethany Kovo to explore what health really means beyond the surface level. We go deep into the truth that wellness isn’t about a six-week challenge or a perfectly measured plate of food, but a lifelong dance between mind, body, and soul. Bethany shares her own journey from high school food rules and body image struggles to discovering that real healing lives in connection, community, breathwork, and the courage to face both our light and our dark. I found myself nodding the whole time as she reminded me that health is about how we feel about what we eat, how we move, and how we connect with others, and most importantly, how we connect back to ourselves.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: Bethany Kovo began her work in wellness with a simple goal: helping women feel at home in their bodies and eat with ease instead of fear. Over time, she discovered food was rarely just about food. It was tied to stories of shame, silence, and self-worth passed down through generations. That realization shifted her work from nutrition to whole-person healing. Today, as founder of the Empowered Self Method and Empower Membership, Bethany guides women to reconnect with their bodies, regulate their energy, and build lives rooted in self-trust and alignment.

  • 165 The Dark Side of Fitness Competitions and the Power of Self-Acceptance

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! My conversation with Kelley Tyan was such a powerful reminder that health isn’t about chasing the smallest body, it’s about leading yourself well from the inside out. Kelley opened up about the highs of winning four bikini competitions and the lows that followed: disordered eating, body shame, and the mental crash of trying to maintain an unrealistic standard. What struck me most was how she rebuilt herself through faith, resilience, and a refusal to quit, turning pain into purpose and helping women discover their own strength. I left this conversation fired up about the truth that our worth is never tied to a scale, a stage, or a size, but to how we care for ourselves and live in alignment with who we really are.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: Kelley Tyan is a proud wife, mother of two, breast cancer survivor, and 4X National Bikini Champion who has transformed life’s trials into a movement of faith and empowerment. As the founder of the Pray Lead Empower Movement, keynote speaker, and 2X bestselling author of Addicted to the Climb and The ONE Prayer, she equips Christian women to embrace God’s promises, lead themselves well, and live with bold courage. A Top 50 podcast host and sought-after mentor, Kelley’s story of overcoming depression, cancer, and adversity through prayer is a powerful testament to God’s faithfulness and the strength that comes from choosing faith over fear.

  • 164 Caregiving Without Losing Yourself: Why Self-Care Comes First

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! Sitting down with Debbie Compton felt like divine timing for me. We dug into the real, messy, beautiful truth about caregiving: the exhaustion, the guilt, the humor, and the small moments of dignity that matter so much. I kept finding myself circling back to my own mom as she cares for my stepdad, and to my own role caring for my dad, realizing how often we don’t even recognize ourselves as caregivers until someone points it out. Debbie reminded me that self-care isn’t a luxury in these situations, it’s survival. From stress relief tricks you can do in the bathroom in two minutes flat, to the simple but powerful reminder that our loved ones feel our energy even when words are gone, this conversation cracked open the heart of what it means to show up for others while still remembering to show up for ourselves.

  • 163 Turning Pain Into Purpose: Healing, Love, and Letting Go

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode of Unveiling the Beast, I sit down with life and transformational coach Susan Goodson to talk about pain, healing, and the lessons we don’t choose but desperately need. Susan shares how growing up in an alcoholic home shaped her, why she silenced her voice for so long, and how decades of leadership in Mary Kay pushed her toward her true calling: helping people find their own voice. We dive into the idea that pain isn’t punishment but part of the process of “birthing” something new in our lives, and how stuffing down emotions only leads to explosions later (sometimes at people who had nothing to do with the hurt in the first place). This conversation is raw, real, and full of wisdom about forgiveness, courage, and letting our light shine even in the darkest spaces.

We also go deep into Susan’s story as a mother, walking through her children’s struggles with addiction, what it taught her about unconditional love, and how she had to let go in order for them to rise. She shares what it means to redefine love in a way that doesn’t enable but empowers, and how that shift changed her not only as a mom, but as a human. If you’ve ever struggled with codependency, the pain of watching loved ones self-destruct, or the tug-of-war between wanting to help and knowing you can’t fix someone else, this episode will speak straight to your heart. Susan’s story is proof that the hardest moments can grow us into the most present, loving, and powerful versions of ourselves.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: Susan is a woman of courage and grace, a follower of Jesus, a wife, mother, and proud grandmother. After 41 years in leadership with Mary Kay Cosmetics, she retired to follow her calling as an Intuitive Clarity Coach for women. She has written three books, with a fourth on the way, and she also hosts Our Stories Matter on Women Lead Radio, where she shares the voices of moms navigating life with children who struggle with addiction. Susan’s greatest passion is helping women find the courage to speak their truth and step into who they are meant to be.

  • 162 Near-Death Lessons and the Power of Breathing

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I had the absolute pleasure of talking with Dr. Jeannie May, whose story blew me away. She shared her near-death experience during the birth of her first child, which completely shifted how she saw life, medicine, and what it means to truly heal. That moment cracked her open to the fact that there’s more to this world than the rigid, scientific lens she had been living through as a physician. Years later, on what she thought was just a casual breathwork training, she discovered a practice that allowed her to process emotions and traumas in a way years of talk therapy and medication never could. Hearing her describe how a single session felt like five years of therapy gave me chills.

What I loved about our conversation is how she made something as simple as breathing feel like the most underutilized superpower we all have. We talked about everything from anxiety, depression, and stress, to how shallow chest breathing actually keeps our bodies stuck in “danger mode.” Dr. May shared practical tips like box breathing, 4-4-6 breath, and even the surprising sleep hack of taping your mouth at night to help your body rest and heal. And no, before you let your brain go there, this isn’t some kinky thing. It’s about better sleep, less snoring, and clearer sinuses. Honestly, this episode felt like an invitation to stop white-knuckling our way through stress and start using the power we already carry inside us.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: Dr. Jeannie May is a board-certified physician helping people regulate emotions and heal through the power of breath. With certifications in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Hospice and Palliative Care, and Addiction Medicine, she bridges Western science with ancient wisdom to combat chronic stress and its health effects. Based in Nashville, she shares breathwork globally through her platform, TheBreathMD, and her book Breath: The Remote Control to Inner Calm.

  • 161 Your Fitness Isn’t Broken. Your Expectations Are.

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I sat down with Chad Austin. Trainer, author, and fellow believer that fitness should work with your life, not against it. Chad opened up about how movement became his best medicine after growing up with social anxiety and depression. What started as a detour from teaching turned into his life’s mission: helping people make fitness fit even when life doesn’t. We talked about the myth of “falling off track,” how your workout doesn’t have to look like it used to, and why doing less doesn’t make it less important. Spoiler: even the best athletes take off-seasons, so maybe we can stop beating ourselves up for not hitting PRs during back-to-school chaos?

One of my favorite moments was when Chad said the heaviest weight in the gym is the front door. That hit. We dove deep into the mindset traps that keep people stuck, like trying to recreate past routines, the addiction to quick fixes, and thinking you have to be perfect for 21 days to "make it a habit." (Nope.) Fitness isn’t about perfection, it’s about persistence. And bouncing back faster after the hard days? That’s where the magic lives. This convo was a reminder that your version of fitness is allowed to evolve with your life, and that aging strong, moving pain-free, and feeling like a badass with a barbell at 71 is way more inspiring than six-pack abs.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

Bio: When life throws us unexpected curveballs, it is crucial to be able to show up to take them on as our best.  Chad helps people figure out how fitness best fits in their life, so they can use it as the vehicle that drives them to being the best version of themselves.

Chad is the owner of Priority Fitness in Shawnee, KS, and is also a best selling and award winning author of the book series, “Make Fitness A Priority.” Chad helps his clients get off the inconsistency rollercoaster, so they can keep fitness a priority through all of life’s ups and downs.

  • 160 BONUS EPISODE: My Raw Beastly Story

For most of my life, I was told my body was a problem that needed fixing … by my grandmother, by doctors, by diet culture, and eventually by me. I internalized that shame early, using food to cope before I even knew what coping meant. I was seven when emotional eating started, ten when I was handed a prescription for a now-banned diet drug, and not long after that, I was fully enrolled in the toxic belief that smaller always meant better. The bullying, the body shame, the fake friends, the abusive relationship. I carried all of it in silence, behind a smile, while stuffing my pain deeper than any binge ever could. And when I finally escaped the man who almost broke me, I dove headfirst into “healthy” obsession: over-exercising, under-eating, and chasing a body I believed was the only way to be loved, successful, and safe.

But after nearly three decades of dieting, a rock-bottom moment as a new mom cracked something open in me. That crack led to a question over lunch that would change everything: “Have you heard of intuitive eating?” What started as curiosity became my lifeline. It was the first time I saw food as nourishment instead of punishment, and myself as worthy regardless of size. My healing adventure isn’t a straight line (spoiler alert: healing never is), but I now live with compassion instead of control. Today, I use my story (and my training as a CPT, nutritionist, and neuro-transformational coach) to help others break free from the same systems that caged me. Because food shouldn’t be a battlefield, movement shouldn’t be punishment, and you, my friend, are not broken. You’re a beast. And you deserve to be free.

As always, I hope something lands with you today. I hope something you hear tugs at your heart strings and/or I hope you laugh.

What if health wasn’t about rules or restriction? If you made it all the way through my story, thank you. That wasn’t easy to share, and I know it probably wasn’t easy to hear either. But if any part of it made your heart clench, if it felt a little too familiar, you’re not alone. I’ve lived through the shame, the silence, the punishment, and the pressure. And I’ve fought tooth and nail to find peace with food, movement, and the person staring back in the mirror.

You don’t have to fight alone. You don’t have to keep living by rules that were never meant to serve you. You can heal. You can rebuild. And I can walk with you.

If you’re ready to stop chasing health and start living it, gently, fiercely, and fully, let’s talk. No pressure, no judgment, just a real conversation with someone who gets it.

  • 159 Your Muscles Are Listening: How Pain, Emotion, and Movement Are Connected

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! In this episode, I sat down with Butch Phelps, a brilliant muscle nerd who blew my mind with how much our pain, posture, and even our emotions are connected. He explained how muscle tension isn’t just physical; it’s emotional. Stress, anxiety, and anger? They literally twist your muscles like rubber bands. And get this: the spot where you feel pain often isn’t where it’s actually coming from. Butch broke down why our bodies hold tension, how that tension becomes chronic, and why pain is often a signal, not a sentence.

We also dove into his personal story, going from 315 pounds and in pain to totally redefining his health by building strength and shifting his relationship with food. His transformation wasn’t about chasing skinny; it was about understanding how the body works and supporting it with care, movement, and better information. If you’ve ever felt like your body is betraying you, this one’s gonna flip the script. Tune in and take notes, because your muscles? They’re listening.

  • 158 The Real Cost of Success No One Talks About

What up, Beasts. Welcome back to the show! Today’s guest, Emily Hawkins, brought the absolute fire. She’s a fractional COO for small businesses across the U.S.. She’s basically the go-to person when your business feels like a colander leaking pasta (her metaphor, not mine, and I’m obsessed). Emily doesn’t just fix operations, she fixes people. She helps business owners stop bleeding money, reclaim their time, and ultimately, take better care of themselves. What struck me most is how she sees health not as a side effect of success, but as a core part of it. She’s watched corporate execs literally drop dead from burnout, and she’s on a mission to rewrite that script, one smart system and one gym session at a time.

Emily and I went deep into the ripple effect of a regulated, supported business owner, how reclaiming time and letting go of assumptions can improve not just profit margins but sleep, relationships, parenting, even blood pressure. I mean, this woman had hypertension under a toxic boss and dead-person vitals once she left. That’s not just business consulting. That’s liberation. Our convo reinforced what I teach in health coaching every day: everything is connected. Your chaos isn’t just in your calendar or your body. It’s in your systems, your beliefs, your nervous system, and your leadership style. And the good news? If you’re the problem, you’re also the solution.

Bio: Emily Hawkins is the creator of LeaderSHIFT and a Fractional COO who helps small business owners simplify operations, boost profits, and build businesses they love. With 15 years of corporate experience and a background in supply chain, coaching, and an MBA, she brings practical, proven strategies to entrepreneurs, making business growth less overwhelming and more achievable.
