In today’s episode of Up+Adam, Adam welcomes Nico Larson from the San Luis Obispo-based band Próxima Parada. Known for their soulful and uplifting sound, Próxima Parada has been making waves in the music scene, amassing over a million monthly listeners on Spotify. Their hit song, “Musta Been a Ghost,” went viral last year thanks to a single TikTok video, leading to the song becoming the #1 most viral track in the U.S. and several other countries. Nico shares how that unexpected breakout moment transformed the band’s trajectory and ushered them into an already growing spotlight.

Nico also talks about the band’s recent decision to take a break from touring this fall to reflect and recharge, as well as his upcoming solo show in Spain this November. He also gives us insight into their latest album Into the Way, which further showcases their unique blend of indie-soul. SLOMA is undergoing a renaissance, redefining itself with innovative programming, new exhibitions, and a bold new mural by acclaimed artist MOMO that wraps around the building’s exterior, making it a beacon of contemporary art in downtown SLO. Leann shares the story behind this massive art installation and how it reflects the museum’s mission to make contemporary art accessible and engaging for everyone.

Today on Up+Adam, I am thrilled to welcome the inspiring young women behind the Pots to Plates project: Aria, Cielo, Yanelly, and Juliana. These junior high and high school students have been making a meaningful impact in our community over the past several years by transforming donated pots and succulents into beautiful, upcycled pieces of art. They sell their creations to raise money for the SLO Food Bank, helping to combat food insecurity right here on the Central Coast.

In our conversation, we explore how the Pots to Plates project began, what drives them to keep going, and what they have in store for the future. These young women not only have hearts of gold, but they also embody the spirit of service and giving back. Make sure to stop by their upcoming sale this Sunday, October 13th, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Mountain Air in San Luis Obispo, located at the corner of Broad and Marsh Streets.
