Residents of Ethekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal have been urged to use water sparingly as the metro embarks on scheduled water rotational interruptions. The interruptions expected to stay in place for a year, following demage to water infrustucture left in the wake of the deadly April floods in the province. The municipality's Head of Water and Sanitation, Ednick Msweli has told residents that the April floods were the worst the province has witnessed in over 30 years and that work to repair damaged pipes is expected to be completed by June 2023. The Democratic Republic of Congo has cut ties with Rwanda after accusing it of supporting, financing and arming the M23 rebel group that captured a key town in the east of its country. The Johannesburg Metro Police Department says it has arrested four human frafficking suspects in two separate operations in Johannesburg. In the first incident, police arrested two people after a vehicle with foreign number plates was stopped during patroling in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday. The occupants told officers that they paid approximately R3500 per person to be trafficked into the country from Mozambique. he Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA) has called for the Gauteng Department of Health to suspend the CEO at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital with immediate effect. This follows reports that whistle-blower and Paediatric Gastroenterologist, Dr Tim de Maayer is expected to be served with a warning letter by the department after he wrote an open letter in which he cited horrendous conditions at public hospitals as contributors to the deaths of children. The N3 Toll Concession says the N3 at Van Reenens Pass on the toll route remains closed to traffic after dozens of truck drivers blockaded the area in protest against foreign labour. The drivers are calling on government to compel local companies to stop hiring foreign truck drivers. Earlier this week, truck drivers blockaded routes in the North West province, among other areas. The National Assembly has rejected the appointment of the Reverend Frank Chikane as the new Inspector General of Intelligence. The two largest opposition parties, the DA and the EFF, supported by a number of others, voted against Chikane. Two-hundred-and-18 members voted in favour while 113 voted against the motion. This means he failed to get the required 266 votes to give him two thirds support. The main reason advanced was Chikane's proximity to the ruling ANC, having served in its NEC in the past. Motorists have been urged to avoid the N12 between Bloemhof and Wolmaranstad in the North West, after truck drivers blockaded the road linking Johannesburg and Cape Town earlier today. The drivers have been in protest since yesterday afternoon in a demand for government to compel local companies to stop hiring foreign truck drivers. North West Transport Management Department spokesperson, Boitshoko Moremi assured the public that law enforcement officers were on the scene ensuring the safety of all road users. Auditor General Tsakani Maluleke says the current audit outcomes show no improvement in the state of transparency, accountability, performance or integrity of local government in the country.
