President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to meet with the Elders TODAY at his residency in Pretoria ahead the group's bi-annual meeting in Cape Town. The group is comprised of independent global leaders founded by former president Nelson Mandela with the purpose of tackling global societal issues. These include peace, justice and human rights across the globe. President Ramaphosa hope to use this engagement with the Elders to discuss the global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic amongst other issues. Police Minister, Bheki Cele and National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola are currently meeting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheteli Mene and her team at the police offices in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. The visit follows outrage over the brutal killing of 35-year-old Namhla Mtwa, who was gunned down in April. The matter went viral after Mtwa's sister took to social media platforms last week in a desperate attempt for police to act following the murder. Sibanye Stillwater mineworkers have say that the mine has shown a lack of simpathy to their plight. Scores of striking workers continue to camp outside the Union Buildings in Pretoria as the company says their wage dispute has been referred to the CCMA for arbitration. The workers are calling on President Cyril Ramaphosa to speedily intervene in wage negotiations with the mine. Mine workers from Welokom and Carltonville have been on strike since last month demanding a monthly salary increase of a thousand rand and a further 6% for artisans and surface personnel. Tensions are running high at SAFTU's second elective conference with general Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi warning delegates against collapsing the conference. NUMSA and unions aligned to it want suspended national office bearers to be reinstated so they could contest in the leadership battle within the Federation.  Other unions aligned to Vavi are however opposed to the idea, rather choosing to disrupt the conference by singing non-stop. President Cyril Ramaphosa has praised his German counterpart, Olaf Scholz for donations made to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in the African continent. Ramaphosa was speaking at the start of his official talks with Chancellor Scholz at the Union Buildings in Pretoria. The two heads of state committed strengthening bilateral relations into youth development, climate change, education and further investments between the two nations. Angry residents of Mganduweni near White River in Mpumalanga have marched to the Masoyi police station in protest against what they call the slow pace with which police attend to child murder and mutilation cases. The residents earlier blockaded roads in a protest that has been sparked by the recent murder and mutilation of six-year-old Bontle Mashiyane. Bontle was found in a ditch last week with parts of her body missing, after she had been missing for nearly three weeks. Yesterday, the case against three suspects accused of her murder, was postponed to the 24th of June in the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court. Two more people were taken in for question. Former General Secretary of COSATU, Mbazima Shilowa says he is dismayed at the tensions within senior leaders of the South African Federation of Trade Unions. Shilowa, a former premier of Gauteng was addressing SAFTU delegates on Day 2 of the Federation's second elective conference underway in Boksburg , East of Gauteng. Members of the media have made an urgent application to the Kabokweni Magistrate's Court for permission to broadcast a case involving three suspects who are accused of the murder of six-year-old Bontle Mashiyane in Mganduzweni in Mpumalanga.
