The Democratic Alliance has suggested that foreign embassies in South Africa must foot the bill for the treatment patients from their countries. This comes after a video depicting pregnant women sleeping on the floor at the Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital in Johannesburg, was widely circulated on social media. We spoke to DA's Gauteng health spokesperson, Jack Bloom. 

EFF supporters have gathered in an open field near Kayamandi township in Stellenbosch in support of the expropriation of land without compensation. They claim billionaire, Johann Rupert, is guilty of land dispossession as one of descendants of colonial settlers. Meanwhile, EFF  says deputy president Floyd Shivhambo lead the Mpumalanga leg of the picket at the Leopard Creek in Malalane.

Investigative journalism organisation, amaBhunghane, has revealed that more than R89 million in cash was stolen through SASSA accounts from the state-owned Postbank between 16 and 28 October 2021. This is said to have been  by unknown individuals either employed by Postbank or as contractors. The brazen fraud allegedly involved illicitly crediting grant beneficiary accounts with large sums and then emptying these accounts out at ATMs.This marks the second major security breach since the South African Post Office and its subsidiary, Postbank, took control of the bulk of the social grant system in 2018. The Roodepoort Magistrate's Court has granted the Operation Dudula leader Nhlanhla Lux Dlamini a R1 500 bail.  Dlamini is facing charges of house breaking, theft and malicious damage to property. On Wednesday last week, an elderly man laid charges of breaking and entering, intimidation as well as assault against Dlamini at the Dobsonville police station, in Soweto.

President Cyril Ramaphosa says Government is looking at ways to mitigate the impact of the war in Ukraine on South Africa. The President says the country will be affected by the conflict -- with fuel and food prices expected to rise. Responding to questions from MPs earlier this week, Ramaphosa said Government has set up a Committee of Ministers to look at the impact of the conflict on South Africa's fuel and food prices. Meanwhile, data from the Central Energy Fund has predicted fuel to reach 24-rand-a-litre and 23-rand-60-cents-a-litre for petrol and diesel respectively.
