The South African Social Security Agency, Sassa, says it will approach the Constitutional Court to suspend the declaration of current contract with Cash Paymaster Services for payment of social grants invalid for another year. This will allow the agency to continue paying grants after March. This, after Sassa could not find an alternative payment system in the time stipulated. The agency has told MPs that none of options it has looked at so far will resolve its problems by the end of March. Joseph Mosia reports.

Gauteng Health MEC Qedani Mahlangu has resigned. This in the wake of a damning report that implicates her and several high ranking officials of her department with regard to the deaths of 94 psychiatric patients. Most of them died while kept at various NGO's across the province. The Health Ombudsman Professor Malegapuru Makgoba has handed over the report to national health minister Aron Motsoaledi.
