The fees commission has kicked off on a shaky start with the South African Union of Students expressing dissatisfaction on how the commission is doing its work. The students wanted to know the status of fee increment for 2017, but Commission Chairperson Judge Jonathan Arthur Heher, has made it clear that the commission has no power to decide on that, but will merely make recommendations which the President will decide on what to do with them. The commission was established in January this year, and is looking at the feasibility of a free higher education and training in South Africa. Phumzile Mlangeni reports.

Another school has yet been set alight in the violence torn Vuwani area near Thohoyandou in Limpopo. Mugo-yi-dwa Secondary at Tshi-vhu-lana village is the 29th school to be torched in a space of three month. Three classrooms and furniture gutted down. Fire brigade managed to extinguish fire to prevent it from torching the fourth class room. There have been no schooling in the Vuwani and surrounding villages for the past three month.
