SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng says despite wide-spread criticism, the public broadcaster remains firm in its decision not to air footage of people destroying public property during protests. He was addressing the leadership of teacher union Sadtu in Benoni in Ekurhuleni. Motsoeneng says the SABC's decision to play 90-percent local music is part of a broader plan to restore national pride. A new fossil estimated to be 360 million years old , has been discovered on the N2 between Grahamstown and Peddie in the Eastern Cape. The fossil was discovered during blasting for upgrading a portion of the N2. The rocks containing ancient fossils were discovered by Rhodes University Palaeontologist Dr Robert Gess, who was working on site as a consultant. Nomthandazo Setokoe reports

The SACP says the ANC National Executive Committee has been captured by a faction of the party. This comes after the NEC closed its inquiry into alleged state capture by the Gupta family. Following its meeting this past weekend, the NEC says only one person was willing to substantiate claims that the family offered them cabinet posts and tried to manipulate government business in their favour. The SACP has slammed the NEC's investigation as a white wash. It has also made new revelations that the tripartite alliance members knew of the election date before it was announced by President Jacob Zuma after Atul Gupta told them. With Zimbabwe's elections just two years away, five smaller opposition parties have formed a coalition. The Coalition of Democrats or CODE will work together to try to unseat long serving president President Robert Mugabe. The group says its ready to work with any progressive political party that is unhappy with the state of the country and opposed to the current government. Employees of the Gupta-owned business empire have vowed to continue their services despite the likelihood of not receiving their salaries in June. Yesterday was D-Day for the Gupta- owned Oakbay business empire to make alternative arrangements following the decision by four major banks to cut all their ties with the controversial family. Modern slavery is reported to be rife in South Africa. The Global Slavery Index says there are about 250-thousand people who are subjected to commercial sexual exploitation, forced marriage and forced labour in the country. The Index also noted that South African women have been trafficked abroad, mainly to Europe. South Africa ranks 27th on the Index with Trinidad and Tobago. Trade Union Solidarity has threatened to take the Minister of Sport Minister Fikile Mbalula to the labour court over the quotas in sport.
