In episode 15, we finish off Luke 13, where Jesus concludes his teaching with analogies about the kingdom of God, and a warning about concentrating on your own salvation. Jesus doesn’t want anyone taking the Kingdom of God for granted, and understands the weight of the task still ahead of him, especially in regards to Jerusalem. So what does Jesus want us to learn about the Kingdom of God from these analogies? How can we make sure that we’re inside the banquet, not the person standing outside? It’s so important that we really understand what Jesus is trying to highlight about the state of the world already, and make sure we don’t misinterpret his message. So why is Jesus starting a fire? In episode 11, we explore Jesus (the Master)’s expectations of his now-informed disciples (the servants). Jesus uses four closely related examples to explain their responsibilities as those who now know God’s will. But why is it so important that the disciples lead the way by being prepared? What does Jesus say are the benefits to the ready servants? In episode 10, we get into the next section of Jesus’ efforts to shift his disciples’ mindset. His message in this section is centred around the three ‘G’s mentioned - ‘God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions’. Jesus is really trying to encourage us to trust God’s plan instead of worrying and fussing - but he also knows that this is easier said than done. Is this why Jesus gives us these examples of God looking after elements of nature? What does he really want us to take away from these analogies? Most importantly, in a world where FOMO is alive and well, even amplified by social media, how can we not get stuck in the endless cycle of comparison? We'll be discussing these ideas and much more.
