Lawyers Weekly Podcast Network

Using privilege and legal skills to help others

Listen Later

On this special episode of The Lawyers Weekly Show, produced in partnership with So They Can, a partner and a barrister reflect on their support for the organisation's education and empowerment programs that empower vulnerable communities in East Africa and how such work has informed their respective professional outlooks. Host Jerome Doraisamy is joined by Wotton + Kearney partner and head of pro bono Heidi Nash-Smith and barrister Hugh Stowe to discuss how and why they both became involved with So They Can, unpack their respective experiences on the ground with the organisation and reflect on how such work has offered a new perspective on the importance of social justice and legal practice. The trio also delve into why it is incumbent upon Australian lawyers to fight for justice, the opportunities for lawyers to become more involved with important causes in a post-pandemic world, and what excites both Ms Nash-Smith and Mr Stowe about the work of So They Can in the future. So They Can is a philanthropic partner for Lawyers Weekly's upcoming 2021 Women in Law Awards. To learn more about its work, click here.
