It is not our religion, the color of our skin, the language we speak, our political affiliations, or our bank accounts that divide us.  What divides us is our levels of consciousness.

In this episode, Van of Urantia teaches the importance of continually expanding our consciousness in order to achieve personal spiritual growth and progress towards global unity.  The founder of the Spiritualution Movement, Van emphasizes the need for a spiritual revolution; a revolution of consciousness that we are one planetary family under on Creator.  This is the answer to world peace.

Van shares his personal stories of being uplifted by souls of purity he has come in contact with throughout his life, like Father Michael Scanlan, Agatha Von Trapp, Desmond Tutu, David Wilkinson, and Mother Teresa.  Finding and following our spiritual elders and seeking correction where needed is the path of ascension to higher consciousness.  Our consciousness level depends on our willingness to obey the commandments of God written in our hearts and which apply to all people of all religions.

This teaching is given from the cosmologically expanded understanding revealed in The URANTIA Book (Fifth Epochal Revelation) that there are mortals on other worlds throughout the Grand Universe, and that many of these worlds are more advanced culturally, socially and spiritually than ours.  Looking at some of the mores and laws of a higher society that is similar, but more evolved than us can assist us in developing our planetary culture and social systems.

Our planet, having experienced the Lucifer Rebellion, is out of divine pattern and suffers from many dysfunctions, which Niánn Emerson Chase describes.  One of these is patho-adolesence; much of our dominant culture encourages immaturity, focus on the physical rather than the spiritual, and an unhealthy obsession with youth.

As Niánn shares, having the gift of Fifth and Continuing Fifth Epochal Revelation (The URANTIA Book and The Cosmic Family volumes) gives us a broader cosmic context of reality and divine pattern, and assists us to identify our societal and global problems and implement personal change for planetary progress.

Why do bad things happen to good people? This is a question most of us ask ourselves at some point in our life. When we begin to see suffering as a natural consequence either of our own choices or the choices of others, we can realize it as a tool for healing and growth.

In this teaching Van of Urantia shares many of his personal afflictions -- from divorces; to the death of a 7 year old child; to his many physical struggles associated with diabetes, dialysis and kidney transplant -- and how God was always there to help him through it.  True healing of the soul comes through taking personal responsibility and having a mature spiritual attitude of understanding there is correction in affliction.

Van of Urantia teaches that God’s plan is perfect and our circumstantial reality is not an accident.  A true healer helps his students to accept the struggles of life and take responsibility to make both the personal changes needed for personal progress, and to help effect global change where needed to help the world progress.  Many true healers go unrecognized because people resist the work it takes to truly change.

“The Purpose of Affliction”

A timely and poignant perspective on affliction and suffering as our world struggles with increasing turmoil on many fronts.  While some evolutionary religions believe suffering to be punishment by God for misbehavior, the expanded teachings of Fifth and Continuing Fifth Epochal Revelation (The URANTIA Book and The Cosmic Family volumes) clarify that it is the natural consequences of the cosmic laws of cause and effect when choices or decisions are made that are out of divine pattern.

Niánn Emerson Chase shares her troubles as a youth with the suffering in the world, and the process of shifting her perspective as she grew spiritually to understand the purpose of affliction.  When we turn to God in our pain we can become more compassionate, sensitive, and less judgmental.  When we allow a change of mind about affliction and can see the blessing in our struggles, our suffering is lessened.

Woven throughout this touching teaching is the metaphor of dining with God as an experience of nourishing our souls and growing into spiritual maturity and higher consciousness.  Niánn poetically shares about supping with the cosmic Christ who bestowed as Joshua Ben Joseph to show the Fatherhood of God and the brother and sisterhood of all humankind, as taught in The URANTIA Book.  The Fifth Epochal Revelation found in The URANTIA Book brings an expanded understanding of Jesus as the Creator Son of our universe, Christ Michael of Nebadon.

The teaching expresses that the truly Fatherly love of God, in addition to comfort, nourishment and encouragement, gives correction and needed soul surgery for our growth and ascension.
