Every coach will tell you, matchups matter. Success, they'll say, comes from how you analyze and find the matchups where you have an advantage. But one of the great thing about high school football is the rivalries. And when it comes to rivalries, you just never know what to expect.

The Varsity KC gang takes some time to celebrate some of the fall sports action — soccer, swimming, softball and more!

Ok, Bull Durham references may be a little dated. But there are definitely a few teams making some early-season statements. We're looking at you, Summit Christian Academy, Odessa, Van Horn, Center... oh, and don't forget Liberty North and Lee's Summit North. It's football season, and we're a little excited.

We thought the roster would be down two members this episode, but Cody Thorn was able to make a surprise appearance in the end. And it's a good thing he did, because we're talking Cross Country, soccer, swimming, golf and more in this Tuesday episode of the show.

Several teams piled on the points in week 2, but panelist Troy Chrisman maintains this will still be the year of defense. The Varsity Kansas City crew keeps this in mind as they review week 2 action and look ahead to some big matches in week 3 of the Fall 2019 season.
